Synopsis:

When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end.  To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge.  But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju.  On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes—a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi)—who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past.  Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.

Warner Bros. Bumps Pacific Rim To July 2013 Release Date

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:1018:]]Guillermo Del Toro’s big sci-fi monster robot movie, Pacific Rim, has seen its release date bumped back to July 2013.

Originally slated for a May 10th, 2013 release, Warner Bros. has moved the release to July 12th, 2013, according to the schedule at BoxOfficeMojo.com.

The other movie listed to debut the same day is Grown Ups 2.

The original release date in May saw Pacific Rim debuting one week after Iron Man 3, as well as one week prior to the Star Trek sequel, with Fast and the Furious 6 and The Hang Over 3 scheduled two weeks following.

Could be WB didn’t want Del Toro’s blockbuster, Pacific Rim, lost with all the big May sequels.

The July shift sees really no competition, other than Jurassic Park 3D on July 17th, and The Wolverine two weeks later on the 26th.

Back in October at the New York Comic Con we had the pleasure of speaking to screenwriters Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton on their new supernatural horror novel, Black Light.

Dunstan and Melton are known for their work on the Saw franchise, the Feast series of movies, as well as the upcoming Piranha 3DD.

During the interview we found out that they would be heading to Toronto to work on Guillermo del Toro’s huge sci-fi monster movie, Pacific Rim. However, we were sworn to secrecy and couldn’t talk much on the subject.

Now, speaking with Fearnet.com, the writers have offered up some details about Guillermo del Toro’s new blockbuster movie. Dunstan and Melton have been brought on board to help with Travis Beacham’s screenplay.

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:727:]]

Melton states that the movie will have a 2013 release, and we could possibly see some footage at the upcoming 2012 San Diego Comic Con this July.

Pacific Rim is Guillermo del Toro’s new movie which is coming out in 2013. It is going to kick major ass. It’s giant monsters versus giant robots, and Guillermo del Toro is the only person who could bring it to you. That was an amazing experience, because we read the script, and so we went in knowing what the producers and studio wanted us to do; and we went in and met Guillermo, and he started showing us the tests by ILM. They were just mind-blowing. I think they’ll probably show something at Comic-Con 2012. Because they should be done by then, or close to done by then. I’m telling you, it’s gonna rule Hall H when Guillermo, the king of geeks, comes out and shows some of the stuff he’s shot. People are gonna be blow[n] away.”

Dunstan adds that the movie fits around the PG to PG-13 rating.

“This is a PG movie; Most of his stuff is pretty edgy, for the most part. Nothing below PG-13 that I can think of. So this is his sort of four-quadrant movie. But it’s got all the traits of a Guillermo movie, with the monsters and the younger characters and the things that go bump in the night… It’s pretty great.”

Pacific Rim has a May 13th, 2013 release date, and is directed by Guillermo del Toro starring Idris Elba, Ron Perlman, Charlie Hunnam, Charlie Day and Rinko Kikuchi.

“When an alien attack threatens the Earth’s existence, giant robots piloted by humans are deployed to fight off the menace.”

Idris Elba Talks ‘Thor 2,’ ‘Avengers’ and Robots In ‘Pacific Rim’

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:403:]]

Last night’s Golden Globe awards saw Idris Elba take the Best Actor in a TV mini series or movie, for Luther.

Elba, who played Heimdall, is currently filming and starring in the Guillermo Del Toro epic, Pacific Rim, briefly spoke with MTV and mentioned the monster movie in addition to Thor 2 and The Avengers.

Elba said that Pacific Rim is going to be huge and that there are monsters – and robots. He confirmed he will be reprising his role as the all-seeing Asgardian in Thor 2, and when questioned about a possible appearance in The Avengers, Elba said he wasn’t sure about that one.

Regarding the robots mentioned, an alien attack (giant monsters) threatens Earth and the humans pilot robots to fend them off; more akin to Mechs, I believe.
