Watch: Joe Quesada Says The Spider-Man Costume Is Awesome

Check out video above of Marvel chief creative officer Joe Quesada talking about his job at Marvel as well as Spider-Man.

Quesada says he has seen the new Spider-Man costume, which will be worn by Tom Holland.

“It’s awesome,” Quesada said. “It looks awesome.

“I’ve seen a lot of design work that’s been done on the costume. I think there are elements of it that are really going to blow people away where they are going to go ‘that’s Marvel doing Spider-Man,” Quesada said.

Quesada wouldn’t confirm if the costume is a new or traditional approach to the Spider-Man look or if Holland will use web-shooters.

“You’re trying to trick me. It’s not going to work. I’ve played this game before,” Quesada laughed. “Things will be revealed as they are meant to be revealed.”

Joe Quesada continued with mention of how exciting it is to have Spider-Man back in the MCU.

“It’s Spider-Man. What’s not exciting about that? I can’t imagine there’s a person on the planet Earth that can’t relate to some aspect of Spider-Man or Peter Parker, and he is for all intents and purposes, he is Marvel’s Mickey Mouse. He is the icon of so much of what we have was built upon, so to create that movie along with our Sony partners it’s phenomenally exciting. I know Kevin Feige and his team have some great ideas. Some wonderful theories that we’ve all chimed in on.”

The new Spider-Man movie has a July 28, 2017 release and is expected to first appear in “Captain America: Civil War” next May.

Joe Quesada Announcing New Character Direction On The Colbert Report

Following in yesterday’s footsteps that saw a new female Thor announced on The View, tonight will see Marvel Chief Creative Officer Joe Quesada appear on The Colbert Report to announce another new direction for a character (most likely another replacement).

In addition to Thor, Captain America is already known to be getting replaced – with it speculated by The Falcon – so the announcement could very well be regarding that; however, I believe Marvel stated we wouldn’t find out who the new Captain America is for a couple months or so.

Another possibility is Iron Man.

Quesada has appeared on The Colbert Report before, including giving Stephen Colbert Captain America’s shield.

See more in Marvel’s official info below.

Press Release

Joe Quesada Didn’t Get Man of Steel, Either

Not sure which Man of Steel movie Joe Quesada was watching, but he said the following during his podcast with Kevin Smith.

“As a comic book fan, I wanted to love that movie so much. I wanted to love it so much, and I didn’t love it so much. Again, there are little things here and there that you could pick at and things like that, but I just think at the end of the day, Zod was the hero of the movie to me. He wanted to save his race, and Superman didn’t let him. Zod, in this particular incarnation, struck me as not necessarily an evil man, but a man of…he had a particular…he had his orders, he had a mission. He was a zealot of sorts, but he was a zealot…again, correct me if I’m wrong… but he didn’t say, ‘I want to rebuild Krypton, and then come back and destroy this little planet. All I want is to rebuild this planet. And the only reason I’m blowing everything to bits here is because you’ve got what I want, and you’re not giving it to me. So please, give me my people, and I’ll leave. I was in the mood to watch that Superman movie, and afterwards I was just angry.”

Joe Quesada is the Marvel Entertainment Chief Creative Officer and former EIC of Marvel Comics.

Fans know that Joe Q. isn’t a big fan of Superman-type characters or the cosmic genre in general; so this should come as no surprise.

NINO Nova Doomed: Dropping Out Of Top 100: DnA Sells Over 11K Better

Well, I sure hope Kevin Feige, James Gunn and Marvel Studios are taking note, because the editors that run the comics sure as heck don’t have a clue.

The latest numbers for NINO (Nova In Name Only) Nova show the series close to dropping out of the top 100 monthly comics as Nova #14 comes in at #97 for the month of March with Nova #15 coming in at #98 as well.

According to Comichron, NINO Nova #14 netted 23,459 orders with NINO Nova #15 dropping to 22,996.

For a comparison, DnA’s 2007 Nova series of the same issues saw 28,881 and 28,586, respectively.

That’s a surplus of over 11,000 for DnA, which didn’t come with any hype, promotion or Avengers crossovers.

While Tom Brevoort might state on his Tumblr that we don’t know the official numbers – as I’ve said many times – the numbers do no lie when it comes to cancellation time, and NINO’s numbers are at the cancellation threshold.

I’ve also told Tom on Tumblr that the reason for NINO doing so poorly isn’t because of anything Cosmic Book News has done, but because of the material alone. Similar to Bendis‘ Garbage of the Galaxy, Loeb’s NINO Nova is the direct opposite of everything DnA offered. It probably also didn’t help that the editors and creators talked down to the existing fan base in interviews and columns.

The good news – at least as how it might pertain to the movies – is that Marvel Studios seems to be well aware of the fans and how the comics are perceived.

Even Joe Quesada (of all people) stated Marvel Studios feels if they please the loyal fans, they feel the movies will do well.

“Really, you have to start with the loyalists,” Quesada said. “If the loyalists reject it, then we feel that everyone is going to reject it.”

Marvel Studios Has Plans Through 2028 & Talk of Fans & Comics

It’s learned that Kevin Feige has mapped out a plan for Marvel Studios through 2028.

Kevin Feige, the face of Marvel Studios and its president as well as producer, told Business Week that they recently put together an outline for the future of the Marvel movies.

It’s mentioned that there is a map on the wall of Feige’s office.

“What’s happening back there? I can sort of see it,’ ” he laughs. “They printed out a new one recently that went to 2028.”

Some of those movies that are part of the plan are known as Captain America: The Winter Soldier debuts this week; Guardians of the Galaxy has an August 1st release; The Avengers 2 opens May 1, 2015 and Ant-Man opens July 31, 2015.

Beyond that it’s pure speculation as it seems a Doctor Strange movie is in development with possible movies for Black Panther and Inhumans.

Thor 3 and Captain America 3 are already in the works as well.

The article also mentions Kevin Feige’s start in the world of comic book movies with X-Men. As many fans realize about Feige and Marvel Studios, they tend to stick closer to the source material. Feige had the following to say about working on the first X-Men movie:

“I would hear people, other executives, struggling over a character point, or struggling over how to make a connection, or struggling over how to give even surface-level depth to an action scene or to a character,” Feige recalled. “I’d be sitting there reading the comics going, ‘Look at this. Just do this. This is incredible.’ ”

Likewise, Marvel Chief Creative Office and former EIC of the comics, Joe Quesada, also stated there is a need to please the hardcore fans.

“Really, you have to start with the loyalists,” Quesada said. “If the loyalists reject it, then we feel that everyone is going to reject it.”

Tom Brevoort Says Sales On DnA’s Nova Caused Its Cancellation: Joe Quesada Says Differently

Seems to me both Tom Brevoort and Stephen Wacker are in panic mode regarding sales on Marvel Cosmic.

Wacker verbally abuses fans at all the online forums (except ours), and his latest responses to Richard Rider fans are usually in regards to its “low” sales numbers

Now Tom Brevoort on his Form Spring is preaching more of the same.

It’s not accurate, is the thing. This is the work of a handful of irate Rich Rider fans who are working feverishly to attempt to cause the current NOVA series to end so that they can somehow get back to a Rich series in some not-quite-worked-out way. But NOVA numbers aren’t anywhere near cancellation level, and if the previous series was able to sustain numbers at its level, it wouldn’t have gone away in the first place. But don’t try telling this to them, they know far more about our sales numbers than we do, apparently.

However, we know that’s a bunch of BS as Joe Quesada said back in 2010: this case the sales on both of these books were not the main factors in what’s going on and what lies ahead in their futures.

And regarding Brevoort’s comments about sales numbers, as I’ve said time and time again – when it comes to cancellation time, the numbers reported don’t lie.

Marvel’s cancellation threshold used to be around 20K, but for some reason that doesn’t seem to be the case, at least for titles such as Captain Ms. Marvel.

Black Panther Or Heroes For Hire/Luke Cage Could Be Announced At Comic-Con Saturday

There already is a large presence at Comic-Con by Marvel Studios with their displays for Captain America 2 and Thor 2.

Both movies are part of the Marvel Studios panel in Hall H at Comic-Con Saturday.

It’s also recently been confirmed that a Guardians of the Galaxy movie preview will be featured.

Now it’s possible that Kevin Feige may also announce a slate of new movies.

Disney recently announced untitled release dates for a batch of new Marvel Studios movies.

It’s thought the Doctor Strange movie might be one of them, but what else?

Well, a clue was made known today at the Marvel Comics My Cop O’ Joe Panel at Comic-Con.

CinemaBlend points out that a fan in attendance asked Joe Quesada if there would be any Marvel minorities hitting the big screen.

Quesada replied simply with, “It will happen.”

The top two Marvel Comics minority characters that have been making the rounds online as of late are Black Panther as well as Luke Cage.

Many actors have recently stated they want to play the characters, including Dwayne Johnson, which could mean Marvel Studios is actively seeking actors for the parts.

It’s also previously been said that a Heroes For Hire movie with Luke Cage and Iron Fist is being looked at.

Perhaps we’ll get both. Tune in tomorrow to find out.

Neil Gaiman Really Bringing Back Marvelman?

It’s July of 2009 and Marvel Comics announces they have the rights to Marvelman.

Nothing much since comes of it.

Fast Forward to Avengers #5 (Bendis) and we see the Ultron War teased — September 2010.

Nothing much becomes of it.

Fast Forward To Avengers #7, a trailer surfaces. Ultron War. October 2010.

Nothing much becomes of it.

The Age of Ultron 10 issue event is announced with the first teaser released in November 2012.

Age of Ultron is underway with an ending said to be known only by a select few at Marvel with Joe Quesada drawing the final pages.

Age of Ultron “special guest-star” gets leaked.

Oh, wait. It’s Angela?

The info comes out that it’s Neil Gaiman and he is bringing – what’s her name – to the Marvel U.

And to Guardians of the Galaxy.

Angela. Guardians of the Galaxy.

That’s the big news?

Maybe not, as we can bring everything around to July of 2009.

Neil Gaiman. Marvel Man.

Look: The Silver Surfer Was Very Important Back In 1973

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:5560:]]Check out what surfaced on Reddit: It looks to be some sort of internal Marvel document that lists the importance of certain characters from 1973.

3 asterisks and you are very important, 2 for important and 1 not as much.

Looking over the list we see that back in 1973 the Silver Surfer was listed as “very important.”

So was Ka-Zar, Conan and Dracula.

Guess times change.

X-Men are only at 2.

For the latest list of important characters to Marvel all you have to do is check the movie listings.

Guess there is hope for the Silver Surfer yet with the new Fantastic Four movie coming out.

Joe Quesda Forgets New Nova Is A Kid In Variant Sketch

Marvel revealed a Joe Quesada Nova sketch variant cover featuring the new Nova.

At least we think it is, because it sure looks like Richard Rider albeit with a different helmet.

However, Marvel has been known to get the helmet wrong many many many times.

This also isn’t the first time Loeb’s new Nova has been depicted looking like an adult, I believe.

I wonder if Joe Q. had a Richard Rider sketch laying around and just switched the helmet?
