Marvel Releases Iron Man JARVIS App For iOS

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:10951:]]

A new Marvel App awaits you in iTunes with Marvel’s Iron Man 3 – JARVIS: A Second Screen Experience.

It’s voice activated with various commands enabling certain functions; however, assuming I’m using it correctly, it seems you have to tap the microphone button to enable JARVIS to listen, and then voice the commands, which sorta defeats the purpose of voice-activation.

Check it out for yourself.

Updated: With video below.

Head on over to iTunes to download.

Live Star Wars Episode VII & Rebels Production News Rumored To Be Released Digitally With Final Clone War Episodes

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:10579:]]

A new rumor has landed online stating that Disney and LucasFilm are moving into the digital distribution game with Apple as it’s reported live production news from the set of Star Wars: Episode VII and the new Star Wars: Rebels animated series will be made available through an App as well as the final episodes of Clone Wars.

The Star Wars fan site, Jedi News, has it from an insider source that a Disney App will launch on Apple TV which will exclusively include the final episodes to Clone Wars.

It’s also said that in 2014, plans are underway to use the new platform to distribute Star Wars Episode VII news live from the sets, as well as from Star Wars: Rebels all the way through to Episode 7’s release.

The report goes on to state that the new App will be available only on Apple TV devices capable of running iOS 7, with no confirmation of the other devices such as the iPhone or iPad.

Interestingly enough, Kathleen Kennedy, head of LucasFilm, previously stated in an interview (below around the 1:15 mark) that in regards to internet spoilers and such that they need to embrace it:

We talk about that all the time. I think the whole issue of confidentiality is going to be fascinating as we move into making the movie. If we’re shooting anything outside, it’s almost impossible to not have things end up on the internet. So my feeling is, you need to embrace that, especially with the fans around something like Star Wars. You need to recognize that they are important to the process and acknowledge there are things you’re going want to make sure they get to know. So I think that’s something we’re going to monitor, pay attention to and think differently about.

Star Wars: Episode VII has a 2015 release being directed by J.J. Abrams.

Axel Alonso Welcomes You To AvX #1: Marvel’s AR App Is Cool!

avnegers vs. x-menWith this week’s or next week’s (depending on your retailer, I guess) release of Avengers Vs. X-Men #1, Marvel’s new AR App debuts.

The “AR” stands for Augmented Reality, and what it does is unlock bonus footage when you use your camera-enabled, Apple or Android, phone or tablet.

Throughout the comic, readers will see an AR icon (below) on various pages. When you hover your device over the page, with the App enabled, the camera automatically picks up on the image, and unlocks exclusive content (similar to Shazam with audio).

For instance, the cover to AvX #1 reveals a trailer motion-comic of sorts for Avengers Vs. X-Men.

One of the opening pages sees Marvel EIC Axel Alonso welcome you to the series.

Other reveals include John Romita Jr. pencils and inks, a deleted/unused scene, and a certain creator remarking about his favorite seen involving Nova! And more!

I used an iPhone 4, and the images did look a bit blurry, but I bet this looks amazing on the new iPad with the Retina Display. And you have to be steady with the device otherwise you may lose the content, and then it has to start all over. You can also double tap on the bonus content to isolate it for better viewing as well.

The AR App definitely brings a new element to reading comics. I’m not sure if Marvel will eventually release the content for those who do not have such a device, as just from using the App on the first issue of AvX — it definitely leaves you wanting for more and it’s really darn cool!

Download the App for free over at marvel.com/ARapp

New iPad Goes On Sale Tonight At Midnight At Wal-Mart and Union Square Best Buy

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:822:]]Apple’s new iPad, “HD” I think they are calling it, goes on sale tonight at midnight (actually 12:01 am).

You can either head to your 24 hour local Wal-Mart, or if you happen to live in NYC — the Union Square Best Buy.

For some odd reason, both Wal-Mart and Best Buy are getting the jump ahead of the Apple store, which opens at 8 am.

Likewise, AT&T, Verizon, Target and Radio Shack stores start selling the new iPad later on Friday as well, with the rest of the Best Buy stores selling them at 10am.

While you pick up your new iPad, you can also buy your The Avengers movie tickets as they go on sale at midnight, too.

And when you are done with that, you can read a digital comic or two — and then come back here and tell us how they look on the new Retina Display.

For more on the new iPad check out Brian Amey’s article.

Yes…Another “New” iPad Article: So What Does It Mean For Comic Fans?

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:822:]]

Unless you live in a van down by the river, I’m sure at this point you’ve heard about the release of “the new iPad.” Wednesday’s Apple product announcement was a big hit. Where were you today when productivity halted and the virtual lights of the interweb dimmed as gazillion people watched live blogs, video streams and podcasts to witness the debut of the new wallet draining baubles?

Yes, as I’m sure you know, it has the wonderful retina display, a faster graphics processor, better rear camera, 1080P Video, 4G and Siri “light.”

But what’s in it for us as comic fans?

It’s all about the ‘Resolutionary’ Retina display. The ultra-sharp 2048 x 1536 pixel display will surely have Hulk smashing through it and Eleanor leaping off of it!

I’m sure I’m not the only one who is looking forward to re-reading all of their electronic comics on the Retina display. From all reports it’s truly incredible and even better than the one on the current iPhones. I’m sure the popular e-comic platforms like ComiXology and Graphicly will quickly take advantage of the new technology and present new content in a way it’s never been seen before, but…will they “upgrade” all the older content? We’ll have to see. What does concern me is how will DRM free collections in .cbr, .cbz, or even pdf look like on the new screen? Will readers like Comic Zeal implement new techniques to “upconvert” lower resolution content or will we be left with a pixilated mess? Something to think about.

Apple demonstrated the new iPad’s retina display with a new app called Autodesk Sketchbook Ink, a painting app that is vector-based and resolution independent. In the video you really got a sense it truly replicated what it’s like to paint on a real page. Between this and 3rd party pressure sensitive styli that are on the horizon, this combo should serve as a lower cost electronic canvas for budding Indy creators. I’m looking forward to the first — created only on the new iPad — comic.

I’m still running the old school original iPad. I’m actually writing this article on it now. I’m sure I’ll eventually upgrade, but I don’t plan on camping out or pre-ordering. Will you?

Let me know in the comments or tweet me @10onthetoilet
