Zoe Saldana Gets Gamora Make-up For Guardians of the Galaxy 2

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:23046:]]

Even though Guardians of the Galaxy 2 isn’t set to start filming until February, Zoe Salanda has taken to her social networks to reveal she is getting the green Gamora make-up.

Saldana revealed the following image adding: “Getting ready…”

It’s possible this may just be for a make-up test; however, Saldana is set to return for the Avatar sequels. It’s unclear when filming starts on the new Avatar films as the release dates have been pushed back to 2017 and 2018, so hopefully Guardians 2 won’t be a conflict.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 has a May 5, 2017 release.

Watch: Nicole Perlman Talks Guardians of the Galaxy & Captain Marvel

Check out video above of Nicole Perlman talking Captain Marvel and Guardians of the Galaxy.

Perlman is on board writing the Captain Marvel movie in which she says it’s currently in the brainstorming stage.

Regarding Guardians of the Galaxy, Perlman recounts how she got involved with writing the first version of the script. Perlman was a part of a Marvel writing program back in 2009 in which Marvel told the writers to develop lesser known properties.

A new Gamora comic book series is also in the works from Perlman which is set prior to Gamora joining the Guardians of the Galaxy team.

Here are some highlights:

They gave us a list of lesser known properties and said ‘choose one of these and you will be developing it for a couple of years by yourself.’ So we said ‘okay’ and everybody chose one. The one I chose was Guardians, which I got a lot of funny looks about because it was the least well known property on the list.

I was originally drawn to the first group of Guardians. I thought there’s something really cool about Vance Astro and the whole idea about being temporally dislocated, but I loved the 2008 Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning reboot of the series. It just had so much color and sarcasm, and that was something that the producers were excited about as well.

I tried a lot of different versions of which Guardians to include in the story, but the ones that ended up in the movie are the ones that we decided fulfilled all the best parts of that team. We’re encapsulated by those guys.

Rocket Raccoon was a late addition. I’m really glad we put him in. He was very much on the fence for a while. I loved him, and Kevin loved him. There was some back and forth, and he made it in. Thank goodness.

With Quill we changed his backstory fairly significantly because we didn’t want him to start out too noble at the beginning and be doing this for noble reasons. We wanted him to be a bit of a scoundrel.

Good News: Bill Rosemann Back On Marvel Cosmic With Nicole Perlman Gamora Series

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:17879:]]

While Marvel Comics cancelled Guardians of the Galaxy and Nova – and replaced them with goofier versions – at least there is a bit of good news in that the upcoming Gamora series from Nicole Perlman will potentially be a similar approach to the series that inspired the $750 million plus movie.

It’s learned that Marvel Comics editor Bill Rosemann, who was responsible for adding Rocket Raccoon to DnA’s Guardians of the Galaxy as well as edited their line of Marvel Cosmic comics, is editing the Gamora ongoing series.

Nicole Perlman also wrote a previous script of the Guardians of the Galaxy movie and chose to write a screenplay based on the comic when she took part in the Marvel Studios writers program back in 2009.

Marvel.com posted an interview with both Bill Rosemann and Nicole Perlman; check out some highlights:

Bill Rosemann: I learned that, like me, she understood the untapped potential in everyone’s favorite thief, two thugs, an assassin, and a maniac. [Marvel Editor-in-Chief] Axel Alonso has encouraged us to diversify our talent pool, to seek out new voices who could bring something new to say about our best characters.

My friend Will Corona-Pilgrim at Marvel Studios helped me get in touch with Nicole and the rest is soon-to-be cosmic history!

Nicole Perlman: This book will reference experiences from Gamora’s past, which helped her become the woman she is today. It is an action-packed character piece, really giving time to reflect upon Gamora’s psychology. What is it that makes her so unbeatable in battle? Is it simply because of her training, weaponry, and enhancements? I posit that there is something more going on within her psyche than initially meets the eye, and having a solo series gives us an opportunity to explore that in-depth.

Nicole Perlman: The Guardians will come into play, as will the Badoon, Magus, and others.

Nicole Perlman: The tone is mind-bending sci fi, in the vein of “Total Recall,” “The Matrix,” and “Enemy Mine.” We play with memory, and the idea that our mistakes—as painful as they were to experience—are the building blocks of our identities. We also explore the idea that wellsprings of strength come from surprising sources.

The Gamora series hits Spring of 2015.

Nicole Perlman Said To Write New Gamora Guardians of the Galaxy Comic

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:17352:]]

While the Guardians of the Galaxy movie caused the cancellation of the comic book that inspired it at Marvel Comics, the writer of the first draft of the movie script is apparently getting a Gamora comic book to write.

Bleeding Cool is reporting that Nicole Perlman, who penned a Guardians of the Galaxy script as part of the Marvel Studios writers program, is going to pen a new Marvel Comics Gamora book.

According to the report, an announcement is expected around or at the time of the upcoming New York Comic-Con.

Perlman joined the Marvel Studios writers program back in 2009 and picked up on Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning’s Guardians of the Galaxy comic book as a favorite choice to write a script for because of her background with science-fiction.

Perlman told Marvel.com back in August that Marvel Studios had Guardians on their list, but weren’t sure if they would do a film version of the original team or the 2008 Abnett and Lanning (aka DnA) team. She said see chose DnA’s comic because it was the one that was “most science-fiction in tone.” Marvel Studios told Perlman in kind to “take a whack at it and see what you think.”

Marvel Comics then received word that Marvel Studios was eyeing a Guardians of the Galaxy movie, as recently Marvel Comics then-editor on the book, Bill Rosemann, stated in an interview at CBR that he received word “the West coast group is really digging your cosmic books.” Rosemann also said sales were “rock solid” on the Marvel Cosmic comic books.

The time period Perlman worked on the script coincides with Marvel Comics cancelling Abnett and Lanning’s Guardians of the Galaxy as well as 2007 Nova comic book. Marvel Comics readers were told the titles were being placed on “hiatus.”

Perlman, who also worked on the Thor movie as part of the Marvel Studios writers program, let it be known that things didn’t start to get serious regarding the Guardians of the Galaxy movie until about a year-and-a-half after she first started. Marvel Studios president and producer Kevin Feige became further involved and read the different versions of the scripts and writings. That’s when Perlman found out Guardians of the Galaxy was seriously considered for production.

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:17353:]]

Perlman continued with mention she read all the Marvel Cosmic comic books she could get her hands on. It also recently became known that a previous version of the Guardians of the Galaxy script (thought to have been written by Perlman) featured Richard Rider Nova, who was the headliner of the 2005/6 Annihilation Marvel Cosmic comic book event that re-introduced the characters of Peter Quill, Gamora and Drax. Following the Annihilation event, a Richard Rider Nova Marvel monthly comic book was produced, which was then followed by Rosemann and Abnett and Lanning’s Annihilation: Conquest event featuring Ultron as the villain. Annihilation: Conquest saw the current team of the Guardians of the Galaxy form with a new monthly ongoing launched as well, which became the inspiration for this year’s top movie.

The reason Richard Rider Nova was stated to have been cut from the Guardians of the Galaxy movie was because Marvel Studios came to a “fork in the road,” which more than likely meant they chose to go with a Peter Quill/Star-Lord film and focus more on the Guardians themselves.

Recently, James Gunn let it be known that when he came on board Guardians of the Galaxy, the previous version of the script was a lot more serious. Gunn said he re-wrote the script, and when he turned in his first version of the screenplay, he was told by Marvel Studios to make it more “James Gunn.” Gunn also confirmed he was heavily influenced by the 2008 DnA comic as well.

With official word of the movie in development, Marvel Comics would relaunch Guardians of the Galaxy and Nova under a much different formula. With Rosemann, Abnett and Lanning’s forcible departure would come the noticeable absence of the smart fan-favorite science-fiction writing style the team was known for and which inspired the Marvel Studios multi-million dollar movie. The character of Richard Rider Nova was completely replaced by Jeph Loeb’s version of the character, a teenage “idiot” (Loeb’s words), that Loeb also put on his animated Ultimate Spider-Man series. Loeb, head of Marvel TV and Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D., would find himself off the books when it was announced with the publication of issue two that he would no longer be on the series due to low sales.

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:17354:]]

With Marvel Comics realizing a Guardians of the Galaxy movie was going forward at their parent company, they had no choice but to to give the relaunch all the promotion they could. The first issue featured 30 variant covers and sold over 200,000 copies. Marvel Comics EIC Axel Alonso would state in interviews with big press publications that when it was suggested that nobody really heard of Guardians, his response was it was “our best selling comic” of the year, obviously trying to convince readers the Guardians always mattered to them and were widely known. The six figure digit sales of the new Guardians of the Galaxy comic book would be short-lived having dropped by about 70% percent in sales. The comic also lost it’s charm, with the Guardians themselves forced take a back seat to Avengers and X-Men characters to sustain sales to warrant the current writer’s pay-grade and involvement.

Abnett and Lanning would return to write movie versions of the Guardians of the Galaxy, with Abnett crediting James Gunn for getting them back on the characters.

Abnett is also writing a new Guardians of the Galaxy Marvel Comics comic book, Guardians 3000, which hits this week.

Perlman is credited as co-writer of the Guardians of the Galaxy movie.

Brew’s Crew: Gamora

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:13946:]]

I have wanted to do a column about Gamora – the adopted daughter of Thanos of Titan and the reputed “Most Dangerous Woman in the Universe” – for sometime, especially since she is, as far as we know, the single female member of the rag-tag heroes who will be swashbuckling their way to the big screen in the movie Guardians of the Galaxy on August 1st.

It’s just that her history weaves its way through time, several realities and the recent past. But I figure if I can do Brew’s Crew columns on Immortus and Kang for CBN, the jaded Gamora should be no problem.

Riiiiiiiiight!

To begin with, Gamora is one of my favorite Starlin characters, the one (besides Pip the Troll) that is most remembered from Jim’s Warlock days. While she has no great cosmic powers, Gamora did receive treatments from Thanos that enhanced her speed, strength, etc. to rival those of Adam Warlock. (We later learn in Infinity Watch that Gamora has been cybernetically enhanced to have superhuman strength, speed and a rapid healing ability.)

The mad Titan also helped her become a formidable hand-to-hand combatant, trained in the martial arts techniques from various planets, in the uses of known weaponry of the Milky Way Galaxy, and stealth techniques. She is also a highly-skilled gymnast and assassin, preferring knives and swords as her weapons of choice.

And even though she once possessed the great Time Gem (as in Infinity Gems), which gave her control over time, she seldom if ever used that power.

The universe’s most dangerous female is the last of her species, the Zen Whoberi, who were exterminated by the Badoon. (In her original timeline, her species was exterminated by the Universal Church of Truth.) Thanos found the child and decided to use her as a weapon. Gamora was raised and trained by Thanos to assassinate the Magus, an evil alter ego of Warlock. Gamora was very loyal to the purple giant who promised her the opportunity to avenge the death of her family and world.

As an adult, Gamora was sent as an assassin against the Universal Church of Truth, quickly becoming feared by its agents, the Black Knights. Gamora met and teamed up with Adam Warlock, who also wanted to stop the Magus. She even managed to get close to the Magus but failed in her assassination attempt at the last second.

Together with Warlock, Pip (yep, the troll of current X-Factor fame) and Thanos, Gamora fought to escape the Black Knights and the Magus’ Death Squad. She was then assigned by Thanos to protect Adam Warlock but she became suspicious of Thanos’ plans and was attacked by Drax the Destroyer (who would become her teammate in the Guardians).

Eventually the Magus was defeated but Thanos revealed himself as an even greater threat. Gamora aided Captain Marvel, Drax and the Avengers against the mad Titan, Gamora attempting to slay Thanos but instead he mortally wounded her and destroyed Pip’s mind.

Warlock found them, and Gamora warned Adam of Thanos’ plans. Warlock absorbed their souls into his Soul Gem and when he died as well, his spirit reunited with theirs in Soulworld, a pocket realm of the Gem.

Thanos later manages to obtain all the Infinity Gems, forming the Infinity Gauntlet. Warlock decided that he must be stopped and so led Gamora and Pip out of Soulworld into the real world. Their souls took over the bodies of three humans who had recently died in a car crash. Gamora thus returned to the corporeal world by taking possession of the body of Bambi Long; however, she was soon erased from existence by Thanos when he erased half the population in the universe.

When Nebula claimed the Gauntlet from Thanos, Gamora returned to the MarvelU.She eventually grew weary of the Infinity Watch, and left the group and the Time Gem behind to continue her life as a mercenary.

In more recent days, Gamora appeared in the mini Ronan. She was settled on the world Godthab Omega and was leader of a group of female warriors called the Graces. Everyone on the planet has had their minds altered by Glorian. Gamora is intent on re-establishing her reputation and now wields a powerful blade known as — Godslayer!

At one point, she is seen reclining on a “throne” made of corpses. She joins the United Front of Nova during Annihilation, using her skills to launch quick counterattacks against the Annihilation Wave. She also has romantic eyes for Richard Rider (“Richard-human”).

Following the Phalanx’s invasion of the Kree homeworld, Gamora joins Peter Quill’s Guardians of the Galaxy, and works to proactively protect the universe from a base on Knowhere. (Warlock is also a member of the team.)

Months later, Gamora is seemingly killed by a resurrected Magus, but it was an illusion of the wizard. Gamora, Major Victory, Cosmo and Mantis were later rescued by Phyla-Vell, using her new powers as the Avatar of Death. It is shortly after this that Thanos is brought back to life again, and Gamora allies herself with her hated step-father as they combat a threat from beyond the Fault, a rip in space and time.

We all know where that took her, and them …

As our Nova, Richard Rider, and Star-Lord literally step forward to keep Thanos in the Cancerverse – it didn’t work, as readers of Avengers Assemble later found out – the character of Gamora fell into a reader’s limbo until Brian Michael Bendis brought her back for an appearance in his movie-centric Avengers book – just as Cosmic Book News had predicted.

Since that time, Bendis and Guardians of the Galaxy have taken their place in the Marvel firmament. So much so that the House of Ideas is actually bringing DnA back for a special event upcoming, just as the film releases its monster PR campaign.

Roll the credits!

The film “Guardians of the Galaxy” opens in theatres August 1st!

Gamora Not The Last Of Her Kind In Guardians of the Galaxy Movie?

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:12461:]]

It’s unknown how close James Gunn will keep the Guardians of the Galaxy movie with the source material from the comic books.

Michael Rooker’s Yondu already appears to be going a different route, and Ronan seems more in line with the Ultimate Comics version as he’s a lieutenant of some sort of Thanos.

Now Gamora may be going in a different direction as well, and it could be something that makes the character less unique.

In the comics, Gamora is found by Thanos after her race gets wiped out by the Badoon/Universal Church of Truth where she is raised as his adopted daughter becoming the most dangerous woman in the universe. Thanos teaches her all kinds of bad things including hand-to-hand combat and even augments her physical abilities with cybernetics.

However, speaking with the NYDailyNews, Zoe Saldana seems to downplay that there is anything special about the character offering that she is one amongst many of the same kind.

Gamora doesn’t wake up every morning and go, ‘I’m super-fantastic!’ She just comes from a planet where everybody is green and strong,” Saldana said. “She’s just an everyday person there.”

The “Guardians of the Galaxy movie” has an August 1, 2014 release directed by James Gunn and starring Chris Pratt as Peter Quill Star-Lord, Dave Bautista as Drax The Destroyer and Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Benicio Del Toro as The Collector, Michael Rooker as Yondu, Karen Gillan as Nebula, Lee Pace as Ronan, Djimon Hounsu as Korath the Pursuer, with John C. Speaking with MTV, Zoe Saldana she likes that it’s a different approach to super hero movies in that it isn’t just “save me” as well as the movie has cojones – balls.

“I’m routing for it a great deal. It was amazing. What we shot and left on the screen there were pretty amazing things. I have a feeling that James is going to capture them really beautifully,” she said.

Guardians of the Galaxy Would Kick The Avengers Butts Say Saldana & Bautista

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:9752:]]

At least the movies can get it right.

Marvel Studios and James Gunn brought the Guardians of the Galaxy to Comic-Con where heroes and villains alike were introduced.

Or should we say anti-heroes, because that’s how Gamora describes it.

“It’s the ‘Anti-Hero Hero Movie,'” Zoe Saldana said at the Comic-Con press conference, reports Yahoo. “These are thieves, rebels, assassins who come together to fight something actually much worse than them. And there’s actually a lot of comedy — the levity will be abundant.”

Fans of Marvel Cosmic know that the space heroes don’t just sit back and quarrel amongst themselves on Earth, but come together to guard the galaxy as well as being considered the galaxy’s mightiest. So as Marvel Studios has a new group of heroes to contend with, the Guardians of the Galaxy are already being compared to The Avengers.

“We’re different than the Avengers,” Saldana added. “The Guardians have much ‘bigger’ powers. We could totally kick Thor and Captain America’s ass.”

The Guardians of the Galaxy’s cosmic powers set themselves in a league of their own (unless you are a Marvel Comics editor), and Dave Bautista, who plays the sworn archenemy of Thanos in the movie, agrees.

Drax could definitely beat up Hulk and Thor,” The Animal, as Bautista is referred to in the WWE offered. “Drax is an interesting creature. He’s full of rage and he’s full of honor. But the best thing about Drax is he’s hysterical, without really meaning to be.”

The Guardians of the Galaxy movie has an August 1, 2014 release directed by James Gunn and starring Chris Pratt as Peter Quill Star-Lord, Dave Bautista as Drax The Destroyer and Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Benicio Del Toro as The Collector, Michael Rooker as Yondu, Karen Gillan as Nebula, Lee Pace as Ronan, Djimon Hounsu as Korath the Pursuer, with John C. Reilly as Rhomann Dey and Glen Close as Nova Prime.

Also rumored for the movie are Ophelia Lovibond and Enzo Cilenti.
