Dave Bautista Wants A New Look For Drax In Guardians of the Galaxy 2 (Video)

While promoting the James Bond Spectre film, Dave Bautista talks about the potential look of Drax in Guardians of the Galaxy 2.

Bautista offers Drax “might look a little different” as he has told Marvel he wouldn’t mind changing up the tatoos or even growing a beard.

Drax, in the comics, has seen a couple of different variations ranging from the original design to the Annihilation version used in the movie.

Bautista also offers his Drax would crush fellow WWE star Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam over at DC, and he recently said he is praying for a crossover with the Avengers.

Check out the above video for more.

“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” lands May 5, 2017.

Dave Bautista Wants Drax In The Avengers

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:22324:]]

With Thanos set to take on the Avengers in Infinity War, Marvel’s street-level heroes are probably going to need some Marvel Cosmic assistance to handle the Mad Titan.

Dave Bautista, who previously let it be known he hopes his Guardians of the Galaxy team collides with the Avengers at some point, now says more of the same in that he hopes they do appear together on the big screen.

“Yeah, come on, man. Hell yeah. Yeah, of course I would,” Bautista tells Screen Rant in the following video while promoting his latest movie, the James Bond Spectre film. “At the core of me is the biggest geek you’ve ever met. I’m a superhero fan first and foremost, and…of course, man, I want that to happen. It’s rumors right now, but, you know, I pray every day…and night, and afternoon, and after you walk out the door I’ll go pray and say, ‘Please let Drax be in ‘The Avengers.’ [Laughter] Yeah, I hope it’ll happen.”

It’s presently unknown whether or not any of the Guardians of the Galaxy will appear in Infinity War or side-by-side the Avengers, and even James Gunn said a while back that the Guardians teaming with the Avengers hasn’t been decided, but if we had to guess, we would say it’s probably a good bet at least two members of the Guardians will appear with the Avengers down the road. There’s also the fact that Thanos and Drax are mortal enemies in the comics, which adds fuel to the fire…

CM Punk To Co-Write Drax Comic For Marvel

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:20243:]]

Former WWE Superstar soon-to-be turned UFC Fighter CM Punk has been announced as co-writer on a new Drax ongoing series for Marvel.

Punk, aka Phil Brooks, recently wrote a story for the Thor Annual for Marvel.

The success of the Guardians of the Galaxy movie has spawned many spinoff comics for the different characters. Gamora gets her own ongoing as well from Nicole Perlman, who wrote an earlier version of the Guardians of the Galaxy movie script and is co-writing the Captain Marvel movie.

Regarding the new Drax series, CM Punk made the announcement today at C2E2 with mention the title will launch later this year. The cover for the first issue will be by Ed McGuinness. It’s presently unknown who the co-writer and artist are (Andy Lanning wouldn’t be a bad choice as co-writer) for the series.

While no plot details are known, we see mention of “Intergalactic Fight Club” on the Drax cover, which was featured in Rocket Raccoon #1 as well.

Hopefully Punk will do his homework by reading the 2005 Drax mini-series, Annihilation and Abnett and Lanning’s 2008 Guardians of the Galaxy series that inspired the near billion dollar movie.

Our advice to Punk would be to skip BendisGuardians series in its entirety.

Brew’s Crew: Drax the Destroyer

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:14014:]]

When we finally saw the creation of Jim Starlin’s Drax the Destroyer, rising zombie-like from the ground beneath the ethereal visage of Kronos, imbued with the soul of the dead Earth man known as Arthur Douglas, I wasn’t sure if I was still reading a comic book space opus or one of Marvel’s monster books that were then so popular.

Eerie as his creation was, Drax has certainly stood the test of time, soon to be played by former WWE World Heavyweight Champion Dave Batista as part of the rag-tag heroes who will be swashbuckling their way to the big screen in the movie Guardians of the Galaxy on August 1.

Drax, as he first started out, would be what we call today a cosmic heavy-hitter. He was as strong as a calm Hulk, it was said, and able to fly through space unaided and fire blasts of cosmic energy from his arms. In his purple skull cap and cape, he was right at home with Captain Marvel in the first Thanos War … and later by himself among the denizens of deep space. His prime objective was always the primary reason Kronos and Mentor brought him into being: Destroy the mad Titan. Kill Thanos!

Drax is initially able to do this – kill Thanos – albeit with the aid of the Avengers and Mar-Vell of the Kree. With no life’s purpose anymore, the Destroyer first chooses to battle Mar-Vell for taking away that reason to exist and then becomes the pawn (a role that will become familiar in his future) to his own daughter, Heather (Moondragon).

Eventually freed by the Avengers of his daughter’s mental domination, Drax advances toward her in an effort to end her menace, an evil for which he blames himself. But Moondragon forces the life essence of Arthur Douglas to flee the indestructible body of the Destroyer. Later, after subduing Moondragon and returning to Earth,  the Avengers place Drax’s body inside Moondragon’s ship, The Sensia, and send it into deep space programmed to self-destruct. Without Douglas’ spirit inside it, Drax’s body is destroyed when The Sensia explodes.

Years later, when Thanos is revived by the Lady Death, Kronos reanimates Drax on Titan, only with greater physical power. Kronos does not consider the effects of Drax’s death and the Destroyer’s mind retains the damage done by Moondragon. Alongside a multitude of other heroes, Drax helps battle Thanos and Nebula for possession of the Infinity Gauntlet. Despite the setback of the damage taken from his death (and following Thanos’ defeat and the subsequent breakup of the Gauntlet), Drax is chosen by Adam Warlock to safeguard the Power Gem as part of the Infinity Watch.

I never got a chance to witness this chapter of Drax’s existence and the amount of material about our cosmic champions since the advent of Annihilation has certainly been a godsend to those who may have taken a break from comics around this time (for me, a full decade).

It seems that following an incident in which the creature Syphon manipulates Drax (he is blamed for the murders of Elysius and others and later cleared by Warlock and Genis-Vell), the Destroyer’s condition begins to change. His mass and strength climb to monstrous levels (barely recognizable as Starlin’s character) and his mind becomes clouded. Finally, he seeks out Moondragon (again?) which leads to an altercation with Genis-Vell. Drax winds up being transported to the Microverse and finds acceptance and happiness for a time on Jarella’s home planet of K’ai.

With both his power and intelligence in flux, Drax is later seen on a prison transport ship that has crashed on Earth. He becomes involved with a human named Cammi whom he mistakes for Heather. As he slowly wanders through the countryside at a low level of intelligence, he again encounters one of the ship’s other prisoners, Paibok, who ruthlessly murders the Destroyer. Drax emerges with a new body, a higher degree of intelligence and lessened strength than that of his former self. This new Drax kills two other prisoners (Lunatik and one of the Blood Brothers) and ends up back on a prison ship with Cammi.

This is where I first encounter Drax and all the other cosmic champions of Annihilation and Annihilation: Conquest. A man of intellect, battle savvy and wielding knives, this Wolverine-esque Drax is who has been accompanying first Nova and then Peter Quill.

Oh, he died for a time in the Cancerverse, but is now mysteriously back (as is Quill, who also reportedly bit the dust there) battling in the Guardians’ monthly mag. How Dave Batista portrays this complex character is something I as a Marvel Cosmic and movie maven am anxious to see!

The film “Guardians of the Galaxy” opens in theatres August 1st!

Jason Momoa Reveals Details About Guardians of the Galaxy Drax Audition

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:13951:]]

Jason Momoa, currently rumored for Batman Vs. Superman and Justice League, offers details about auditioning for Drax in the Marvel Studios Guardians of the Galaxy movie.

Momoa lets it be known he didn’t want the role as it was similar to characters he has played in the past.

“I was on Stargate: Atlantis for four years playing a similar character called Ronon, who was an alien who didn’t say much and grunted,” Momoa told Zap2It. “I’ve been there and done that, whether people have seen it or not. You want to stretch.”

Momoa did go on to state good things about Dave Bautista, who ended up getting the Drax role, as well as Chris Pratt, who he read with during the audition.

“I think it’s perfectly cast. Dave is perfect for that role, for Drax,” Momoa offered continuing with mention of Pratt who is playing Star-Lord. “One of the funnest auditions I’ve ever done in my life was with him. He’s phenomenal. He’s going to kill it. It’s going to be amazing. It’s a whole Han Solo vibe. It’s going to be a phenomenal movie. I’m glad that he is the lead of that. He’s funny as hell, man. He can improv; he just acts circles around me. It was really, really fantastic.”

So what about those Batman Vs. Superman rumors? Jason Momoa teases that he is interested in other superhero roles, and the comic books he is reading are a dead giveaway.

“I’m not going to tell you the ones I collect, because then you’d know,” he said with a laugh.

Drax Is Also “The Destroyer” In Guardians Of The Galaxy Movie: Criminal Record Revealed

With the Guardians of the Galaxy leaked footage, fans got a taste of the first 12 days of shooting revealing the team gets put under arrest by the Nova Corps.

As they are under arrest there was brief glimpses of their criminal records where we already got a peek at Star-Lord’s rap sheet.

Now the record for Drax, played by Dave Bautista, is now online where we see that he will also be known as “The Destroyer.”

Drax The Destroyer initially in the comic books was a cosmic powerhouse akin to the Hulk – big green and dumb, but then in 2005 Drax The Destroyer was reborn by Keith Giffen as a smarter, sleaker, more cunning version seemingly dropping “The Destoyer“; however, we see James Gunn is at least keeping it around in the form of an alias.
