Now Colin Farrell & Justin Theroux Rumored For Doctor Strange

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:17595:]]

I’m losing count how many actors are rumored for the lead role in Doctor Strange, but the latest is said to be Colin Farrell and Justin Theroux.

Now it’s even being said not to rule out Joaquin Phoenix, after the actor apparently bowed out of talks.

According to The Wrap, Collin Farrell and Justin Theroux are the latest names to be looked at by Marvel Studios to play Doctor Strange.

It’s said in addition to Phoenix, Benedict Cumberbatch is another person not to rule out and is high on the list.

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:17596:]]

Earlier in the week also saw mention that Keanu Reeves is a fan-favorite choice to play Doctor Strange, and according to the report, Marvel is considering him now, too.

Regarding Joaquin Phoenix having second thoughts, it’s speculated that Robert Downey Jr. recently signing on for Captain America 3 may have swayed Phoenix into reconsidering Doctor Strange.

Other actors mentioned for the role include Ryan Kosling, Oscar Isaac, Jared Leto, Matthew McConaughey, Ewan McGregor, Jake Gyllenhaal, Ethan Hawke and even Tom Hardy, who looks to be signing with WB for the Suicide Squad flick.

Doctor Strange has a July 8, 2016 release directed by Scott Derrickson with a script by Jon Spaihts.

Doctor Strange Director Teases Infinity Gauntlet

With all the recent rumors surrounding which actor will be cast as Doctor Strange, now comes a teaser of sorts from director Scott Derrickson as well.

Derrickson took to his Twitter to post a panel from the Jim Starlin Infinity Gauntlet comic which features Doctor Strange.

Scott Derrickson added, “Open your eye,” with the image.

As fans know, the Infinity Gauntlet featured the Mad Titan Thanos who recently appeared in the Guardians of the Galaxy movie as well as The Avengers.

Infinity Gauntlet sees Thanos acquire the six Infinity Gems (Infinity Stones in the Marvel movies) giving him omnipotence.

Perhaps Scott Derrickson is teasing Thanos and the Infinity Stones will play a role in the Doctor Strange movie.

Below you can check out the full pages from Infinity Gauntlet #1 featuring the panel that sees the Silver Surfer warn Doctor Strange about Thanos.

Ryan Gosling Rumored For Doctor Strange

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:17558:]]

Add one more actor to the list of potential candidates to play Doctor Strange as it’s said Ryan Gosling has met with Marvel Studios for the role.

Previously, six actors were named in possible contention for Doctor Strange, which included Ethan Hawke, Ewan McGregor, Jake Gyllenhaal, Jared Leto, Matthew McConaughey and Oscar Isaac.

THR states that Ryan Gosling recently met with Marvel Studios to discuss starring in Doctor Strange.

All these names have surfaced as a result of the apparent departure of Joaquin Phoenix, who was stated to be a lock to play Doctor Strange, but then it was said Phoenix turned down the offer because he did not want to sign a lengthy multi-picture deal that Marvel requires.

It was also previously said that Marvel would like a big star for the role of Stephen Strange. From that we can speculate Marvel may want a big-named actor because of the importance Doctor Strange will play going into the Phase 3 films and beyond.

Keanu Reeves has also popped up in connection to Doctor Strange as Reeves recently said he would look into the character when it was suggested he was a fan-favorite choice to play the character.

Doctor Strange hits July 8, 2016 directed by Scott Derrickson.

Update: Ryan Gosling is also said to be up for the WB Suicide Squad movie.

Six Rumored For Doctor Strange

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:17554:]]

With Joaquin Phoenix reportedly bowing out of Doctor Strange, a large list of candidates to play the Sorcerer Supreme for Marvel Studios has become known.

According to Variety, the list of contenders to play Stephen Strange now includes:

Jared Leto. It’s said the actor is aggressively pursuing the role. Leto also had some fun previously with fans online about playing Doctor Strange.

Oscar Isaac. Currently starring in Star Wars: Episode VII, it’s said Marvel may have an inside look at the actor.

Matthew McConaughey. It’s said that Marvel believes after getting interest from Joaquin Phoenix, they feel they can get anyone for the part, and it’s also said they want a star for the role.

Ewan McGregor. It’s said he is expected to meet Marvel about talks for the role.

Jake Gyllenhaal. According to sources, Gyllenhaal is interested in playing a superhero.

Ethan Hawke. Contrary to an earlier report, it’s now said Hawke is in the mix to play Doctor Strange and even pursued the role early on.

Update: Add one more with Ryan Gosling.

“Doctor Strange” has a July 8, 2016 release being directed by Scott Derrickson.

How About Keanu Reeves For Doctor Strange?

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:17502:]]

While promoting his latest movie, John Wick, Keanu Reeves commented on playing Doctor Strange.

The Collider caught up with Reeves and let it be known there was fan interest in seeing Keanu Reeves playing the Sorceror Supreme for Marvel Studios.

It’s mentioned that Joaquin Phoenix was said to be up for the role, but turned down Marvel’s offer. To that, Keanu Reeves asked why, with the interviewer guessing it was because of the lengthy contract that Marvel makes their actors sign.

Reeves seemed surprised by the number, which could be anywhere from 6 to 9 movies.

Regarding Keanu Reeves having any interest playing a DC or Marvel character, he offered: “From a practical standpoint the idea of a long term contract is sort of “ehh because you want to make sure the material is a certain level. Like the good or great level. I like the idea. I mean I go to those kinds of movies. I like superhero movies. I grew up on them and comics and graphic novels. I didn’t know Doctor Strange as a character. I didn’t read that as a kid.

It’s then brought up how a lot of people are talking how Keanu Reeves is good for the role.

“I’m gonna have to read it. I remember reading something… ‘who’s going to play Doctor Strange?'” Reeves responded.

It’s further suggested that Reeves would be a good choice to play Doctor Strange.

Would I be good at that? Would I be right for the role?” Reeves questioned.

Reeves was asked again if he had any interest in playing Doctor Strange.

“Yeah. I think with that you need the material, which is script, and you need a director that you can feel can deliver a vision. You don’t want to just do it for doing it. You want to make sure that it is trying to do something.”

“John Wick” hits October 24th.

No Doctor Strange for Joaquin Phoenix

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:17363:]]

It’s being reported that Joaquin Phoenix is no longer in contention for Doctor Strange, and that Marvel Studios is back to square one.

Deadline has it that the talks between Marvel Studios and Joaquin Phoneix have ended.

It was previously said that Phoenix was all but guaranteed to play the role, with the ball being on the one yard line.

Apparently either Marvel or Phoenix fumbled, with Phoenix not wanting the role.

Ethan Hawke’s name has also surfaced for Doctor Strange, but the report also says that is not true.

Prior names said to be contenders before Marvel was talking with Joaquin Phoenix were Benedict Cumberbatch, Jared Leto and Tom Hardy.

Leto did tease the role, and recently Cumberbatch has been hinting at involvement in Batman Vs. Superman.

The Doctor Strange movie has a July 8, 2016 release with Scott Derrickson on board as the director and the script written by Jon Spaihts.

No Star Wars For Doctor Strange Director Scott Derrickson

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:17303:]]

A rumor recently hit the net stating that Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson was being eyed for a Star Wars spinoff.

According to Slash Film, the rumor isn’t true, and Scott Derrrickson is sticking with Marvel Studios.

I have it on very good authority that’s not the case. Never say never, of course, but he’s concentrating on the Marvel film.

Currently, it’s only known that Godzilla director Gareth Edwards and Fantastic Four director Josh Trank are directing the Star Wars spinoffs.

Scott Derrickson is known for directing the Sinister films as well as a batch of other horror movies. It’s speculated that the Doctor Strange movie may be going the same route and will be a supernatural horror Marvel film. It’s also been stated that Joaquin Phoenix is close to signing for the role of Stephen Strange.

Regarding the Star Wars spinoffs, not much is known about the plots or even what characters will be featured. It has been stated they will be origin-type films possibly spotlighting Yoda, Boba Fett, Han Solo and Obi-Wan Kenobi in individual movies.

Doctor Strange Gets Rumored Release Date & Production Start

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:17218:]]

Marvel may finally be moving forward on the Doctor Strange movie as a release date is rumored as well as start of production.

Screen Daily is stating Marvel is in advance negotiations to film Doctor Strange at Shepperton Studios in the UK; the same place they filmed Captain America: The First Avenger, Thor 2, Guardians of the Galaxy, The Avengers 2 and where Disney is filming Star Wars: Episode VII.

It’s stated Doctor Strange is slated to go into production later this year and/or early next year.

It’s also said Marvel has reportedly given Doctor Strange a July 8, 2016 release.

If the new is true, more than likely casting announcements should be coming soon with it said that Joaquin Phoenix is close to signing as Doctor Strange.

It’s also been rumored that Marvel will not be doing anymore origin stories, which may mean the Doctor Strange movie will see Stephen Strange already as the Sorcerer Supreme in the thick of things.

Now It’s Said Joaquin Phoenix Is Hesitant To Play Doctor Strange

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:16986:]]

A few days ago it was stated that Joaquin Phoenix playing Doctor Strange was at the “1-yard line” with the actor in final negotiations for the role.

Now a new report is stating that Phoenix is hesitant to take the role.

According to Bad Ass Digest, Joaquin Phoenix was supposed to walk out on stage at Comic-Con as a big surprise, announced as Doctor Strange. It’s said Marvel Studios tried to do everything possible to get him to sign a deal at the last minute.

It’s possible that might explain why many considered Marvel Studios appearance at San Diego this year to be rather bland as Marvel was counting on Phoenix.

Regarding why Phoenix didn’t sign for Doctor Strange, it’s stated the actor is unsure if he can do a big movie with a lot of green-screen acting, special effects and fighting in addition to signing a multi-picture deal as well as many reshoots. Phoenix tends to like smaller more independent films and shies away from big budget spectacles.

Joaquin Phoenix In Final Talks For Doctor Strange

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:16951:]]

It’s being said that Joaquin Phoenix is in final talks to play Doctor Strange in the upcoming Marvel Studios movie.

Among the rumored names includes Jared Leto, Johnny Depp, Jon Hamm and Jack Huston.

Regarding the latter two, Hamm said he was never approached by Marvel, and now it is said Huston isn’t true as well.

The Collider is stating that Joaquin Phoenix singing for Doctor Strange is just about a done deal: “essentially at the 1 yard line, about to pass into the endzone.”

News first hit about Joaquin Phoenix playing Doctor Strange about a month ago, with it speculated that it has taken so much time for Phoenix to sign to ensure his contract will enable him to do other independent projects.

No release date has been announced as of yet, Scott Derrickson will direct, and it is also rumored that the Doctor Strange movie will not be an origin story.

Daniel Radcliffe Talked With Marvel About Something (Audio)

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:16900:]]

With the Harry Potter movies over, Daniel Radcliffe may want to get involved in another franchise.

The actor recently appeared at this Summer’s Comic-Con dressed as Spider-Man in disguise.

In the following interview with the BBC, Daniel Radcliffe also mentions he talked to Marvel not too long ago, but didn’t expand upon it.

“I actually talked to some of the guys from Marvel not long ago, and they were saying ‘We’re just going to wait for someone at Comic-Con to build an actual Iron Man Suit, and then we’ll buy it and use it for the film!'” he said.

As Radcliffe did state “not too long ago” maybe he had talks with Marvel about the Doctor Strange movie as he is familiar with using magic from Harry Potter. Or another character and movie?

This isn’t the first time Daniel Radcliffe has hinted at wanting to play a superhero, as previously the actor stated he wanted to get involved in the new Batman reboot.

Jon Hamm Never Approached By Marvel For Doctor Strange (Video)

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:16875:]]

It was previously rumored that Jon Hamm was Marvel’s choice to play Doctor Strange, and now the actor comments about it in the following video.

Hamm says maybe the internet knows more than he does as Marvel hasn’t approached him about it, but he does think Doctor Strange is a cool character.

In addition to Hamm, Johnny Depp has been rumored for the role as has Jared Leto and Joaquin Phoenix.

Marvel has yet to make any casting announcements.

Doctor Strange has a July 8, 2016 release.

Kevin Feige Hints At Black Panther; Won’t Use Female Thor; Thanos In Guardians of the Galaxy 2 & Joaquin Phoenix?

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:16594:]]

Following the Marvel Studios Comic-Con panel, Marvel Studios president and producer Kevin Feige offered comments on the footage that was shown as well as what’s to come.

The Collider managed to briefly speak with Feige following the panel.

Feige wouldn’t give specifics in regards to the last scene which featured a broken Captain America shield as well as the Avengers seemingly deadFeige offered with a smirk that what it was, was the last scene of that footage.

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:16595:]]

Feige is then asked if having Josh Brolin appear at the panel with the Infinity Gauntlet was a sign of things to come. Feige said you could look at it that way, but when asked if it meant Thanos would appear in the newly announced Guardians of the Galaxy 2, replied Thanos could pop up anywhere.

I wouldn’t say the tease was that specific necessarily…the timing, but it’s a good question. As I say, the fun thing about a connected universe, particularly for Thanos, you get around quickly; you never know when he’ll pop up next.

An interesting answer from Kevin Feige came when he was asked about using current Marvel characters in different variations, such as Marvel Comics recently announcing a new female Thor and black Captain America. Feige stated they probably wouldn’t go that route, but definitely didn’t rule it out as it all depends on the story. Feige added they are more likely to use already existing female Marvel Comics characters as well as African-American characters.

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:16596:]]

Feige then also remarked “African-African” characters in his reply.

Well, look. The options for us is adapting the comics. If we are able to make as many movies over the years as we hope we are able to make, I think we can pull from any of them. I think it’s more likely that we’ll see some of the existing female characters from the [comic] books or existing African-American characters or African-African characters from the books come to life before we swap some of the other heroes, but if it becomes a great classic storyline, that’s what we want to make movies of.

There are a lot of movies to come with the existing cast, so again it’s going to be about introducing the new characters within them.

Feige also wouldn’t comment on the rumor of Joaquin Phoenix being up for Doctor Strange, but didn’t exactly deny it.

Joaquin Phoenix In Talks To Play Doctor Strange

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:16515:]]

It’s being stated that Joaquin Phoenix is currently in talks with Marvel Studios to play Doctor Strange.

The Wrap reports multiple sources have filled them in, and that both Marvel and Phoenix are keeping mum.

It’s said no deal is in place, but stated Joaquin Phoenix is being taking under consideration and there have been discussions about the Doctor Strange movie.

It’s speculated Doctor Strange will be featured in some way at this weekend’s Comic-Con with presumably a confirmation on the release date (IMDb has it has July 8, 2016).

Getting the lead actor announced at the SDCC wouldn’t be too bad, either.

Look for more regarding Doctor Strange to come out of the Marvel Studios panel being held on Saturday night.

Benedict Cumberbatch Doubtful For Doctor Strange (Video)

Benedict Cumberbatch basically confirms there were talks between him and Marvel for Doctor Strange, but offers that it’s probably not going to happen because he is already committed to another project.

MTV asks Cumberbatch about the Doctor Strange rumors, with the actor replying, “As far as I’m aware, even if that was the case, it couldn’t work out because I’m doing a little play called Hamlet in London. So I don’t think I could even if that was in the cards. It sounds like a fantastic project. It’s a shame if I miss out, but who knows?”

MTV then pressed Cumberbatch if there were ever talks for the role, with Cumberbatch remaining mum.

“I couldn’t possibly comment,” he said.

It’s speculated at this weekend’s Comic-Con more could be learned about the Doctor Strange movie.

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:15942:]]

Add one more to the list to possibly play a role in the Doctor Strange movie with Venezuelan actor Edgar Ramirez.

Ramirez confirmed that he is in talks with Marvel Studios for a role.

“We’re talking,” confirmed Ramirez to IGN. “We’ve been talking.”

Ramirez has a role in Deliver Us From Evil, which is directed by Scott Derrickson, who was recently named as the director on Doctor Strange.

Ramirez also played Ares in Wrath of the Titans and is set to star in the Point Break remake as Bodhi, the role Patrick Swayze played.

It’s unsure if Edgar Ramirez is up for the role of Doctor Strange or another part.

Currently, Benedict Cumberbatch, Tom Hardy and Jared Leto have been said to be at the top of the list to play Stephen Strange.
