Disney XD’s Star Wars Rebel Logo, Art & Info Revealed: Different Than Clone Wars

Disney showed up in a big way at Star Wars Celebration Europe in Germany by unveiling the logo, art and information for their new animated series, Star Wars Rebels.

Below you can see Star Wars Rebels concept art from artist Ralph McQuarrie that reveals a look at the main character’s ship, the Ghost.

Where did the idea for Rebels come from? Dave Filoni, supervising director on Star Wars Rebels, says Lucasfilm’s story team got together and talked about what they wanted to see, and they all agreed it was this era. He adds that it will visually be different from The Clone Wars, particularly it will have a strong influence from Ralph McQuarrie. “I looked at his paintings, and there are tons of paintings that he did that have never made it to the screen.” Concept art shows on screen, they look very Star Wars. “Ralph had such a mind for the future.”

The series is set between the events of Episode III and IV — an era spanning almost two decades never-before explored on-screen. It takes place in a time where the Empire is securing its grip on the galaxy and hunting down the last of the Jedi Knights as a fledgling rebellion against the Empire is taking shape.

Star Wars Rebels will be produced by Lucasfilm Animation, featuring many of the key talents that made Star Wars: The Clone Wars. It is scheduled to premiere in fall 2014 as a one-hour special telecast on Disney Channel, and will be followed by a series on Disney XD channels around the world.

New Star Wars Animated Teaser Featuring TIE Fighter Assembly Line?

We may have a teaser from Dave Filoni, the former supervising director of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, for a new animated show.

Filoni is confirmed for Disney’s new Star Wars animated, and look below what he posted on his Facebook.

Looks to be a TIE Fighter assembly line.

Filoni writes, “It’s hard to believe that I have worked at Lucasfilm almost eight years, and this is the first time I have ever gotten to draw a TIE fighter.”

From that it sure sounds official.

This also could lend credence to the rumors and theories that the new Star Wars animated show may be set after Return of the Jedi.

And if this is indeed post-Return of the Jedi, it suggests that some form of the Empire still exists as new ships are actively being built.

Previous details that were leaked as well as information Cosmic Book News exclusively provided stated the new Star Wars cartoon would be set after Episode 6 featuring the Rebellion going after what was left of the Empire.
