Ghostbusters 3 Set To Continue Following Dead Of Harold Ramis

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:13959:]]

Harold Ramis, 69, died yesterday following complications due to a rare autoimmune disease known as vasculitis in which the body attacks its own blood vessels.

Ramis came down with an infection in 2010 as a result of vasculitis and saw a relapse in 2011 as well.

The actor passed away at his Chicago home surrounded by his loved ones and wife Erica Mann Ramis, the Chicago Tribune reported.

Harold Ramis is known for writing Stripes as well as portraying Egon Spengler in Ghostbusters.

Ghostbusters 3 has been in development for sometime with it learned Ramis was set to have a cameo in the upcoming movie.

It’s now learned that Ghostbusters 3 will continue following the death of Harold Ramis as THR reports the script may need an adjustment.

It’s said Ghostbusters 3 is in active development, which may begin filming next year, and director Ivan Reitman is set to meet with Sony about the changes.

Reportedly, Ghostbusters 3 sees the originals, including Dan Aykroyd and Bill Murray, pass the baton to a younger group of characters.

Aykroyd and Reitman offered the following in an e-mail to Entertainment Weekly:

“Deeply saddened to hear of the passing of my brilliant, gifted, funny friend, co-writer/performer and teacher Harold Ramis. May he now get the answers he was always seeking,” Aykroyd said.

“The world has lost a wonderful, truly original, comedy voice with the passing of Harold Ramis,” Reitman said. “He possessed the most agile mind I’ve ever witnessed. He always had the clearest sense of what was funny and how to create something in a new clever way. He was very generous about making everyone around him look better and smarter. Harold had an extraordinary impact on my career and I loved him like a brother. My heart goes out to his children, and his lovely wife, Erica. He will be profoundly missed.”

Aykroyd Is Off Ghostbuster 3 If Not Started Within A Few Months

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:4475:]]Ghostbusters 3” might finally get underway soon — or it just might get put into the containment chamber for good.

Dan Aykroyd, who has been working on variations of the script for years, gave an update on the project and while he hinted at possible additional Ghost Busters movies, he also stated that if “Ghost Busters 3” doesn’t get going, the principal actors on the project will be moving on.

Now, this would add quite a bump to Sony’s bottom line, quite a bump. If they make this movie, in its current shape, they would be looking at a pretty hefty, nine-figure return. And so I’m hoping they get on to move it, but if they don’t, I have multiple trains. I’ve got tracks six, seven, and nine, and that’s four. I’ll be moving on to other things, as will Ivan, by the way. We can’t wait forever. And now’s the time to tell the picture company, and I’d say this quite publically, it’s time now to sit down and make this movie, or you will lose your main principals, and you won’t be able to make it without us, because we have rights, and now is time to make the movie… You don’t take advantage of that in the next three or four months, I’ll see you in Australia, where we’ll be selling Crystal Head.

Aykroyd also states that if his pal Bill Murray would have went with one of the previous scripts, “Ghostbusters 3″ would have been released this Summer and been a blockbuster.

Well, let me say this: Had Billy chosen to do the Eisenberg/Stupnitsky script of two years ago, it would be out this summer, and it would be a massive hit. If Billy had said yes, it would have satisfied his performance and what he wanted in the movie, it would have satisfied his performing skill and how he wanted to be depicted in the movie, it would have satisfied the studio, the writers who wrote it, everybody — Ivan, me, Harold, we were all happy with it. Then when he said, “Absolutely not, I’m not in this,” we had to go and really rethink things. He abrogated his say in the project, abrogated his rights to have any say in it by refusing the third offer from the picture company, which his lawyer put before him, and Billy said, “No, I can’t respond.” Now we have to move on, but we’ll always leave a hole for him. He’s always there. He can always come back at any time and be rebuilt into it, as far as I’m concerned. That’s up to his lawyer and the picture company to work out, but creatively, he will always be a part of it.

Aykroyd also hints at a previous story they have written for the new movie that could eventually make its way into further Ghostbusters sequels.

Man-hell-ttan, and the Ghostbusters in hell, would be so solid, but we gotta get maybe one or two made before that.

No Bill Murray For Ghostbuster 3 Says Dan Aykroyd; Going To Pass The Torch

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:2464:]]

Ghostbusters 3″ has been on and off again for I don’t know how long, as it seemed everything was depending on Bill Murray’s involvement.

Murray was once said to cameo as a ghost, and then said to not like the script etc. etc.

The latest comes from Dan Aykroyd (via the Metro) who now says Bill Murray will not be involved, and that they will be passing the torch to a “new generation.”

Is Ghostbusters 3 finally happening?

DAN AYKROYD: Yes, we’ve got a brilliant new writer on it and we’ll be passing the torch on to a new generation. We’re working on it to make it just right to satisfy our fans. I’m confident we’ll be in production in the next year.

It’s been a long process, hasn’t it?

AYKROYD: Yes, but now we’ve got the studio on side. We’ve tried a few concepts which weren’t right but now we’ve got a good structure and will make it happen.

Is Bill Murray doing it?

AYKROYD: No, I can tell you he won’t be involved.

How do you feel about that?

AYKROYD: It’s sad but we’re passing it on to a new generation. Ghostbusters 3 can be a successful movie without Bill. My preference would be to have him involved but at this point he doesn’t seem to be coming and we have to move on. It’s time to make the third one.
