Katee Sackhoff Creating & Starring In “Rain” SF Series

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:20055:]]

Katee Sackhoff, known for Battlestar Galactica, is creating and will star in a new science-fiction series titled Rain.

Deadline reports Sackhoff has teamed with Continuum producer Reunion Pictures for the project, which Sackhoff wrote and is executive producing.

The description for Rain reads as: an evolutionary parable that gives us a look into our possible future as a species viewed through the eyes of a soldier named Rain (Sackhoff). It explores how the long-term effects of global warming, the burning of fossil fuels and the scientific manipulation of nature’s balance rot the world and contribute to its decline.

“With RainKatee has created a future world and a story that are compelling as both a sweeping vision and a very personal exploration of a civilization in harrowing decline by its own hand,” Reunion Pictures’ Tom Rowe said in a statement. “She has written a great story and we are excited to be working with her.”

Katee Sackhoff currently stars in Longmire, which will be moving to Netflix, and was a part of the controversial Power Rangers fan-film that amassed over 14 million views on YouTube within days of its debut.

“It’s great to be in business with Reunion and Thunderbird,” Sackhoff said.” Their credentials in the genre are outstanding and they share my vision in telling a story that means a lot to me.”

Sackhoff’s name has also popped up as a fan-favorite choice to play Marvel’s Captain Marvel.

SyFy Continuum Episode 2 “Fast Times” Preview

Did we check out the first episode to SyFy‘s new SF series, Continuum, that aired this week?

Had some nice special effects and the time travel spin to the story was decent enough.

I had a couple issues with it, such as: What happens when she captures all the escaped criminals as there seems to be less than a handful?

Also, did anybody else find it a stretch that the gang could clear out an entire police station without being followed? Or for that matter even take the whole police force out?

Maybe I’m just being picky.

Below is a preview to episode 2, “Fast Times.”

Continuum airs Mondays at 8pm ET on SyFy.

Description:

Kiera tries to find the members of Liber8 before they do more damage. Her attempts are hindered when her cover is blown and her partner on the VPD, Carlos Fonnegra, arrests her. But when she discovers Liber8’s plan to attempt to get back to 2077, she has to escape and possibly ally herself with her sworn enemies to get back home.

In each of the six hour-long episodes, this strong-willed and historically superstitious group of miners will face the day-to-day challenges of mining, aided by the paranormal investigators who unravel the mysteries surrounding the mine, including historic Masonic connections and a spirit who has been known to haunt the area for generations. FEBRUARY

ROBOT COMBAT LEAGUE (NEW ORIGINAL SERIES)

Premieres Tuesday, February 26 at 10PM – Now, through ground-breaking engineering, the fusion of a human’s fighting spirit with a powerful machine built for destruction has become reality in Robot Combat League. This gripping new high-octane unscripted series puts a 21st century spin on gladiatorial combat with tournament-style battle between eight-feet tall, state-of-the-art humanoid robots whose movements are controlled by exo-suit clad human “robo-jockeys.” Twelve teams of two contestants – a fighter (the “robo-jockey”) and a robotics engineer (the “robo-tech”) – are paired with unique robots that clash in the ring for three rounds of intense action, with the winning team advancing in the tournament. Robot Combat League is hosted by Chris Jericho, the famed WWE wrestler and multifaceted performer. Mark Setrakian (Hellboy, Men in Black, The Grinch) created and designed the robots. Robot Combat League is produced by Smart Dog Media, with Craig Plestis serving as executive producer.

STRANDED (NEW ORIGINAL SERIES)

Premieres Wednesday, February 27 at 10PM — Ping Pong Productions (Destination Truth, Finding Bigfoot) joins forces with Josh Gates (star of Syfy’s travel-adventure series Destination Truth) and Jason Blum’s Blumhouse (Paranormal Activity, The River) to create Stranded, an all-new six-episode reality series that documents an unconventional – and terrifying – paranormal and psychological experiment. Each hour-long episode features the self-recorded footage of a perse group of every-day paranormal enthusiasts – from newlyweds and a brother-in-law to a trio of roommates. Each team of three will be stranded at one of the most haunted locations in America and record the entire experience with hand-held cameras. The footage from the subjects’ cameras will be supplemented by strategically-placed security cameras at each location, creating a suspenseful, completely unscripted first-hand account of each group’s stay. Over the course of the confinement, the subjects contend with increasingly pervasive feelings of fear and desolation, resulting in an experiment that represents a unique combination of psychology and the paranormal. Stranded is executive produced by Brad Kuhlman, Casey Brumels and Josh Gates (who also serves as showrunner) for Ping Pong Productions and Jason Blum for Blumhouse (the production company behind the Paranormal Activity feature film franchise and movies like Insidious and Sinister). Gerard Bocaccio who heads up Blumhouse TV will be a consultant on the project.

NEW YORK – November 12, 2012 – Joining recent original series acquisitions such as the hit Lost Girl and the upcoming Primeval: New World and Sinbad, Syfy today announced it will premiere the time traveling police drama Continuum – Canada’s highest-rated scripted basic cable series – beginning Monday, January 14 at 8PM (ET/PT).

Continuum stars Rachel Nichols (Criminal Minds, Alias) as Kiera Cameron, a cop from the future who finds herself trapped in the present day. When a group of fanatical terrorists escapes their planned execution in 2077 by vaulting back in time to 2012, they inadvertently sweep along Kiera, a dedicated City Protective Services officer.

With unexpected assistance from teen tech genius Alec Sadler, played by Erik Knudsen (Jericho, Scream 4), Kiera infiltrates the local police department and forms an uneasy alliance with her new partner, detective Carlos Fonnegra, portrayed by Victor Webster (Castle, Melrose Place). Though desperate to get back to her husband and son, Kiera concentrates on bringing down the terrorists before they change the course of history.

The January 14 premiere of Continuum will lead into the third season premieres of Syfy’s hit series Being Human at 9PM and Lost Girl at 10PM.

Executive producers of Continuum are Simon Barry (The Art of War), Jeff King (Stargate SG-1, White Collar), Tom Rowe (Tin Man), Pat Williams (Smallville), and Reunion Pictures. Writer: Simon Barry. Director: Jon Cassar (24, Terra Nova).

SyFy Picks Up Canadian Sci-Fi Show “Continuum”

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:2765:]]

SyFy continues in what looks to be a trend in adding sci-fi shows to its programming.

There is the original MMO/TV show Defiance as well as the recently announced Martin Campell (Green Lantern) directed Blake’s 7.

Now the latest is with Continuum, a Canadian sci-fi series starring Rachel Nichols as a time-traveling cop from the year 2077 who gets trapped in present day Vancouver.

The series just premiered on Showtime this past May, and according to Deadline, drew record numbers.

Deadline states it’s already been picked up by SyFy’s UK division, with its main offices in the U.S. looking to close the deal.

Here’s the plot from Wiki:

When a group of rebels convicted as terrorists escapes execution by fleeing from the year 2077 to 2012, Kiera Cameron (Rachel Nichols), a future Vancouver law enforcement officer (called Protector), is involuntarily transported with them. In order to track them down and keep them from changing the past (and presumably future), Kiera joins the Vancouver Police Department and uses the skills of a young tech expert, Alec Sadler (Erik Knudsen). The future of 2077 is a dystopian one in which world governments have collapsed and corporations now dominate the planet, instituting a high-surveillance police state and removing many basic social freedoms. The moral dilemma this presents is that the group of eight from 2077 (who call themselves “Liber8“), while self-admittedly having killed tens of thousands of people as collateral, consider themselves to be freedom fighters against the Orwellian corporate regime that dominates their time.

After Kiera goes back in time, she finds that she can communicate with a young Alec Sadler using the wireless technology that Sadler became famous for inventing in her time. However, in sixty years’ time, an elderly Alec Sadler is actually the head of the mega-corporation Sadtech, whose technology may (inadvertently or otherwise) have been used to send Kiera and the others back in time. Young Alec points out that there are essentially two possibilities. The first is that this is a time loop, and elderly Alec in 2077 had already met Kiera, remembered everything they did together, and was possibly even inspired to create cybernetic technology from encountering “his” future work in her implants. In this case, nothing can be changed, and the mega-corporations will still dominate the planet in 2077. The second possibility is that the time travel of the terrorists and Kiera has altered the pre-existing timeline, and due to their intervention it is no longer certain what 2077 will be like. The first possibility more closely matches the fact that the 2077 version of Alec Sadler was the only witness to the escape of the Liber8 who seemed totally unsurprised as events unfolded early in episode one. In episode ten, we discover more evidence that the first possibility is indeed correct: Sadler knew precisely what would happen in 2077 and purposefully sent both Kiera and Liber8 back in time, for reasons yet unknown
