Cobie Smulders Reveals She Had Cancer

Cobie Smulders, known for playing Agent Maria Hill in the Marvel movies, poses topless in the latest issue of Women’s Health magazine where the actress reveals she had a bout with cancer a few years ago.

Smulders, age 33, reveals she had ovarian cancer when she was 25 while on How I Met Your Mother.

“I had tumors on both ovaries,” Smulders said. “And the cancer had spread into my lymph nodes and surrounding tissues.”

Smulders went through multiple surgeries to remove the cancer over a two-year period, according to the article.

“I don’t think I’ll ever feel like I’m cancer-free,”Smulders offered. “Now that I’m five years out, I’m trying to think of it as a positive thing and what can I learn from it. And if I can create more awareness, I’ll do it.”

Smulder continues by discussing what she feels is the meaning of “healthy.”

“I always associate ‘healthy’ with ‘healthy eating,” she said. “I’m big into ‘you are what you eat’ and if you’re taking care of yourself in that respect, then you’re going to feel good. Look good, feel good.”

Regarding the topless pics, Smulders explains her reason behind doing it is: “because it’s a women’s magazine, I feel like being topless is more about being confident and about being happy with your body rather than trying to excite somebody else. That’s what this cover was more about.”

Cobie Smulders can next be seen in “The Avengers: Age Of Ultron” on May 1st, and will be reprising as Maria Hill for an upcoming episode of “Agents Of SHIELD.”

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:9524:]]

Synopsis:

Joss Whedon shows us not all heroes are super with “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” Fresh from his role in the summer’s box office smash, Marvel’s The Avengers, Agent Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) returns to the worldwide law enforcement organization S.H.I.E.L.D. He puts together a small, highly trained, team of Agents to tackle the cases that haven’t been classified yet, the new, the strange and the unknown. That team consists of straight arrow Agent Grant Ward (Brett Dalton), an expert in combat and espionage; pilot and martial artist Agent Melinda May (Ming-Na Wen); and brilliant if socially awkward scientists Agent Leo Fitz (Iain De Caestecker) and Agent Jemma Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge). They’ll be joined by civilian new recruit and computer hacker Skye (Chloe Bennet).

Prepare for an epic adventure that showcases the hope and wonder of the human spirit. This is a world of Super Heroes, aliens and the unusual – of action, spectacle and world spanning stories. The show will speak to the human condition through the lens of our very human, non-powered S.H.I.E.L.D agents – that together we are greater than we are apart, and that we can make a difference in the world.

Executive Produced and co-written by Joss Whedon, Jed Whedon & Maurissa Tancharoen (“Dollhouse,” “Dr.Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog”), Jeffrey Bell (“Angel,” “Alias”) and Jeph Loeb (“Smallville,” “Lost,” “Heroes”).

Whedon Says Cobie Smulders Involvement In S.H.I.E.L.D. Will Be Little

We get an update from Joss Whedon on the new ABC S.H.I.E.L.D. TV series about Cobie Smulders‘ involvement.

Whedon offers that what we will see of Maria Hill won’t be that much because of Smulders‘ schedule, but seems to offer hope we’ll see more from her.

He tells TVLine that Smulders’ schedule “will permit very little” involvement, “but if we can get a hold of her anytime, we will.”

Regarding any new information surrounding the plot or storyline in regards to S.H.I.E.L.D., Joss Whedon doesn’t offer much, but does say it will be a Marvel show and one focused on the new characters they are presenting. Whedon also said that there is some talk about including familiar Marvel faces sometime down the line.

“We’re trying very hard to be true to [Marvel’s] ethos and also to the structure of their universe. So it is definitely a Marvel show.” Whedon said. “Right now, I want to involve people in the characters that we’ve created for the show and then we’ll worry about [the other stuff].”

Regarding the Marvel ethos, we put together five reasons that the new S.H.I.E.L.D. series just might actually be the Hulk TV show.

S.H.I.E.L.D. just wrapped their pilot and looks to debut in the Fall with Clark Gregg starring as Agent Phil Coulson.

Cobie Smulders May Assemble With Joss Whedon’s S.H.I.E.L.D. TV Series

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:5275:]]Joss Whedon and ABC’s S.H.I.E.L.D. TV series may see another character from the big screen assemble as Cobie Smulders lets it be known that there are talks.

Smulders played S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Maria Hill in The Avengers movie, and now she might be back together with Clark Gregg, Agent Coulson, who will be starring in the series.

The S.H.I.E.L.D. pilot began shooting this week and IAMRogue asked Smulders about the possibility of being featured.

“The commitments to [How I Met Your Mother] don’t affect it,” Smulders said about appearing. “And I can’t really say but there are definite talks about it.”

Smulders also has plans to stay with Marvel Studios for the long haul as she says they’ll have to force her out before anything.

“Oh yeah! I’m very excited,” she said. “I will do Maria Hill until they fire me and hire someone else to do it.”

The S.H.I.E.L.D. series look to debut this Fall on ABC with the pilot directed by Whedon and co-written with his brother Jed, featuring all-new agents including Ming-Na as Melinda May, Elizabeth Henstridge as Gemma Simmons, Iain De Caestecker as Leo Fitz, Brett Dalton as agent Grant Ward and Chloe Bennet was cast as Skye.
