No Charlie Hunnam For Pacific Rim 2

Charlie Hunnam will not be back for Pacific Rim 2.

Hunnam, who starred in the first Pacific Rim movie as Gypsy Danger Jaeger pilot Raleigh Brackett, let it be known at this past weekend’s Comic-Con he won’t be returning for the sequel due to a scheduling conflict. Hunnam says he is happy they are making the movie and even offered he was featured heavily in an earlier script (via yahoo):

They have a very definite schedule that they have to film because of the, you know, politics and business surrounding filmmaking. Sometimes non-creative decisions will dictate how something, you know, unfolds — which seems bass-ackwards, in fact, that we’re making art, or at least aspiring to make art — but yeah, it just ended up being something that unfortunately we couldn’t remedy…”

Hunnam goes on to say he feels Pacific Rim 2 will be a significant progression from the first movie, which is something you always hope to do.

Up next for Charlie Hunnam is the King Arthur movie (the trailer just hit at Comic-Con).

Regarding the new star of Pacific Rim 2, that would be Star Wars: The Force Awakens actor John Boyega, who is playing the son of Idris Elba’s character. Scott Eastwood is also in talks for a role.

Pacifc Rim 2 has a February 23, 2018 directed by Daredevil showrunner Steven S. DeKnight.

Charlie Hunnam & Alexander Skarsgard Were Up To Play Thor

It’s learned Chris Hemsworth wasn’t the only actor up to play Thor for Marvel Studios.

Thor writer Zack Stentz appeared on the Kevin Smith Fatman On Batman podcast and discussed writing Thor where he let it be known Charlie Hunnam and Alexander Skarsgard were up to play the son of Odin.

“…Thor. It’s like [writing] big blond guy. It could have been one of eight big blond guys,” Stentz said. “I was there. I was like, ‘Is that Alex Skarsgard? Is that the Sons of Anarchy guy?”

Kevin Smith then asked if Thor might have been Alexander Skarsgard.

“Yeah. Those were the other two main candidates who are Charlie Hunnam and  Skarsard,” Stentz said. “I love those guys, but I think Hemsworth was the right choice. Just that frickin’ charm he brought.”

Stentz also let it be known he and Ashely Miller were responsible for choosing to use Coulson (Clark Gregg) in Thor after Marvel told them Samuel L. Jackson wouldn’t be available due to the negotiations not working out. Stentz said they also chose to use Clint Barton, aka Hawkeye.

Another actor up to play Thor includes Tom Hiddleston, who we all know went on to play Loki.

It’s also been sad WB had created Justice League concept art a while back with Charlie Hunnam as The Flash.

Charlie Hunnam Fan-Made Adam Warlock Art

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:21801:]]

With Adam Warlock speculated by many fans online to be a part of possibly Guardians of the Galax 2 and the Avengers: Infinity War movies, check out a fan’s rendering of Charlie Hunnam as Him.

Noted Marvel Cosmic writer and creator of Thanos, Jim Starlin, recently remarked on an article that it would be weird if Magus appeared in the Avengers: Infinity War movies, but no Adam Warlock.

Of course it’s no confirmation that Adam Warlock, or his alter-ego Magus, will appear in the Marvel movies, but many Marvel Cosmic fans are hopeful as Adam Warlock was paramount in Starlin’s Infinity Gauntlet series and subsequent sequels, of which the movies seem to be inspired by.

Charlie Hunnam Confirms Pacific Rim 2

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:21458:]]

It definitely sounds like Charlie Hunnam will be back for Pacific Rim 2, which starts filming this Fall for its August 4, 2017 release.

EW.com caught up with Hunnam on the set of his latest movie, Guy Ritchie’s King Arthur movie Knights Of The RoundTable, where Hunnam spoke about some of the problems with the first movie and offered he hopes “we” fix them with the second, with the article also noting “Hunnam is excited to take another crack at [Pacific Rim].”

“I hope that we are able to remedy that a little bit going into the second,” he said. “Not to say I wasn’t proud of the film. I really liked it, and I felt like it delivered exactly what it was supposed to. But I do feel like we could have maybe plumbed the depths of the character and the storytelling a little bit more.”

Regarding Hunnam’s concerns, he mentioned it was difficult to find a balance between developing the character of the Jaeger pilots with the attention the mechs and kaiju received.

“I think world creation and monster creation and all of that stuff is exciting as a secondary element of storytelling. When it becomes more important than storytelling, I get very nervous, and you sort of lose me a little bit,” Hunnam said. “Although we tried very hard on Pacific Rim to marry those two elements, I do feel like ultimately it got weighed heavier on the side of spectacle than storytelling.”

Guillermo del Toro will be returning for Pacific Rim 2 as well and previously offered the sequel takes place a few years after the first one.

“It’s not an immediate follow-up,” Del Toro said. “It is the world having been freed of Kaiju, what happens to the world after – what happens to the Jaeger technology once the Kaiju are not a threat. It’s quite a jump.”

Charlie Hunnam as Green Arrow Fan Art

At one time it was said there was Charlie Hunnam Flash concept art created by WB, though it never hit the net.

Obviously if that rumor was true, WB chose to go in a total different direction with Ezra Miller.

Hunnam also happens to be a fan-favorite pick to play Green Arrow in the DCCU (well, second fan-favorite pick, anyway).

Check out fan art below of Charlie Hunnam as Green Arrow created by Bosslogic, who is also responsible for some of the cool Tyrese Gibson as Green Lantern art.

To date, there has been no confirmation of Green Arrow appearing in Batman Vs. Superman or any other of the DC films, but the character was paramount in The Dark Knight Returns comic story that inspired the movie.
