Bryan Cranston Denies Involvement In Batman Vs. Superman For Lex Luthor On Howard Stern

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:14136:]]

Bryan Cranston recently appeared on The Howard Stern Show where the actor denied all involvement in Batman Vs. Superman.

Cosmic Book News was told that Bryan Cranston had been cast as Lex Luthor back in August of last year.

Warner Bros. recently announced that Jesse Eisenberg is playing Lex Luthor.

Here is the text from the show:

Howard Stern: Tell me if this is true.

Bryan Cranston: What?

Howard Stern: New Superman movie. You were being considered for Lex Luthor. True or False.

Bryan Cranston: In the minds of fans, it’s true. In the minds of the hierarchy of Warner Bros., it’s not true.

Howard Stern: Were you involved at all? Were you ever considered? Did anyone ever contact you.

Bryan Cranston: No. I was not involved in any of that whatsoever.

Howard Stern: What a great role that would be for you.

Bryan Cranston: Oh, Oh. I would have…

Howard Stern: You would’ve nailed it.

Robin: That would have been a “20?”

Bryan Cranston: That would have been a “20,” I think so.

Howard Stern: We haven’t seen the script, but Lex Luthor. I don’t know why I think this, but I think you would be the guy to play Lex Luthor.

Bryan Cranston: I think it came to people’s minds because they thought, “Well, Lex Luthor historically is bald. Who else is bald? Ah. Bryan Cranston of Breaking Bad.” So it didn’t take tremendous amount of imagination. Who’s menacing and bald?

Bryan Cranston is currently playing Lyndon B. Johnson on Broadway for the play “All The Way,” and can be seen in the upcoming Godzilla movie in May.

Director Errol Morris also recently revealed that Bryan Cranston will be featured in his movie, “Holland Michigan,” which may film this Summer in Michigan. The role for Cranston is described as a black comedy where Cranston’s wife suspects her mild-mannered husband of being a serial killer.

New Godzilla (2014) Magazine Art & Gareth Edwards Talks Bryan Cranston

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:14036:]]

We get a new piece of Godzilla art from the latest issue of Empire Magazine as we see Oppenheimer’s famous quote printed on the image, of which Gareth Edwards featured in the Comic-Con trailer.

Edwards also spoke about working with Bryan Cranston, who plays scientist Joe Brody, with the BBC.

Gareth Edwards mentions he didn’t see every episode of the AMC hit series Breaking Bad; so he wasn’t all that intimidated by the actor that portrayed Heisenberg, and it was actually two other series that Cranson appeared in that inspired Edwards to choose him.

“Thank God I hadn’t seen a billion episodes of Breaking Bad like everyone else, otherwise I would have been too intimated to walk to work with Bryan,” Edwards said. “I had seen him in a few, but the real reason I wanted Bryan was because of Malcolm in the Middle – and an episode of Airwolf from 1986.”

Edwards also offers some details on the amount of realism in Godzilla.

“There is never going to be a giant monster coming out of the ocean and smashing up a city but the physical consequences of stuff you see in this film does happen: we do have tsunamis, we have had meltdowns at nuclear power plants,” Edwards offered.

“Godzilla” opens May 16, 2014 in 3D starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ken Watanabe, Elizabeth Olsen Juliette Binoche, David Strathairn and Bryan Cranston. The screenplay is by Max Borenstein, Frank Darabont, and Dave Callaham.

Synopsis:

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:13929:]]

Update: Godzilla trailer #2 is now online.

The teaser reveals dialogue by Bryan Cranston, who plays a scientist in Godzilla by the name of Joe Brody. Cranston seems to insinuate that some sort of accident that happened 15 years ago wasn’t an accident at all. Perhaps the birth of a monster in the movie?

This week has seen a batch of promotion for Godzilla including a new poster, magazine cover, international trailer and the roar of Godzila.

Toldja: Tom Hanks Considered For Lex Luthor In Batman Vs. Superman; Update On Cranston

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:13598:]]

A new report mentions that Warner Bros. considered Tom Hanks as Lex Luthor for Batman vs. Superman, just as I was told back in November.

While the report from THR states Tom Hanks was never approached for the part, they do state Hanks’ name was discussed internally.

I was told the Tom Hanks information by my Bryan Cranston as Lex Luthor source who also first told us about the Justice League appearing at the end of Batman Vs. Superman.

Regarding Bryan Cranston, while I was told he ended up changing his mind, THR goes so far as to state sources have told them he wasn’t even approached.

I don’t think that’s the case at all, and I’m guessing that due to the fans’ online response to the Jesse Eisenberg casting that THR and WB are trying to downplay Cranston, as the actor was a heavy favorite to play the role amonst the fans.

I was also told by another source close to Warner Bros. that due to Cranston’s play schedule that he wouldn’t be able to do the part. Well, now we know that isn’t true as Jennifer Garner said Ben Affleck is shooting Batman Vs. Superman during the Summer. Bryan Cranston’s play ends in June.

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:13599:]]

As a matter of fact, I’ve been told that Zack Snyder was going to feature a young Lex Luthor in backflash scenes.

Now I don’t know if that is still the case and Zack Snyder is going with a “Mandarin” (i.e. Iron Man 3), but it’s possible Goyer’s initial Man of Steel sequel script featured an older Lex Luthor. With the new writer being brought on board as well as Ben Affleck as Batman, it could be that things changed with the inclusion of a young Lex and the Justice League characters.

My Cranston source also filled me in that Mercy Graves is going to be in the movie, who in the comics is an Amazon, which I noted back in August suggested the inclusion of Wonder Woman.

“Batman Vs Superman” has a newly announced May 6, 2016 release starring Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane.

Another Confirmation Justice League Will Be In Batman Vs. Superman; More On Lex Luthor

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:13129:]]

Earlier today a rumor surfaced which seems to corroborate our earlier information we first posted back in December that Batman Vs. Superman will feature the Justice League with some sort of explosive ending.

Now a blogger for Forbes, Matt Hughes, has taken to his Twitter to state he’s heard similar.

I received the Justice League in Batman Vs. Superman information from my Bryan Cranston cast as Lex Luthor source.

Regarding Cranston and Lex Luthor, last my source was told Cranston had changed his mind in favor of doing Broadway plays and getting away from villain roles.

In our last discussion, we spoke whether or not that was just smoke and mirrors put out by WB to cover the leak.

I was also told anything regarding Lex Luthor being mentioned within Warner Bros. was “hush hush.”

I’m not sure what that could signify: whether or not the role has been cast and the higher-ups don’t want it leaked; if Cranston is really cast as Luthor, or even if they wrote Lex out of the script in favor of, say, Vandal Savage.

With Batman Vs. Superman said to begin filming a scene next month, it’s speculated announcements will be coming soon.

I’m guessing as Breaking Bad and Bryan Cranston just won Golden Globe awards, similar to what Marvel did with Michael Douglas and Ant-Man, WB might want to capitalize on the publicity and announce Cranston soon. Update: It’s possible they may be waiting until after Cranston is done promoting Godzilla.

If not, wait for the Lex Luthor announcement before the actor appears on set.

The question on everyone’s mind seems to be: Will we say Bryan Cranston’s name come July 2015?

Batman Vs. Superman” has a July 17, 2015 release directed by Zack Snyder starring Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill and Gal Gadot.

Producer Mentions Bryan Cranston As Lex Luthor & Doomsday For Batman Vs. Superman

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:13039:]]

Last night, a tweet from producer Daniel Alter went viral as he matter-of-factly stated the title for Batman Vs. Superman is Justice League.

Now Alter, who has worked on the Hitman movie, is back at it again mentioning Bryan Cranston as Lex Luthor and Doomsday as well.

Alter mentions there will be multiple villains for the movie noting Doomsday. He also says Cranston was definitely up for Lex Luthor, though he doesn’t know the status right now.

Alter does, however, admit he does post “wishful thinking” and states the Justice League tweet was an “educated guess,” adding a smile.

Cranston’s name recently popped up again, rumored to be confirmed for Lex Luthor. The possible problem with Cranston is that he is booked for a Broadway play around the same time Batman Vs. Superman is filming. He’s by far the fan favorite of choice; hopefully they can squeeze him in somehow.

Bryan Cranston Confirmed As Lex Luthor For Batman Vs. Superman. Again. New Details

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:12937:]]

Another report has surfaced stating Bryan Cranston has been cast as Lex Luthor in Batman Vs. Superman.

A podcast for AMC is stating Cranston is confirmed for the role.

The YouTube video has since been made private.

Just a couple days ago, an editor for AMC Movies stated he heard from sources Cranston had been cast in the role, so possibly the podcast could be where he received his info.

Update: The editor in question is now stating that the podcasters (of which his wife is a member) used the incorrect terminology as Cranston hasn’t officially been cast, but is just rumored and chalked it up to a “rookie” mistake.

Original article continues:

If you recall, Cosmic Book News was told Cranston was cast with the announcement to be made following the series finale to Breaking Bad.

Obviously that didn’t happen, and then we were told Cranston had changed his mind to do the Lyndon Johnson Broadway play which starts up around the same time filming on Batman Vs. Superman begins.

Unless it’s all smoke and mirrors, it looks doubtful that Cranston would be able to do both the Broadway play and Batman Vs. Superman due to the heavy schedule required for the play. More than likely the play would have one or two dark nights, which would make it extremely difficult for Cranston to fly in and out for Batman Vs. Superman, especially with it rumored Lex Luthor is the film’s main villain. I’ve actually been told Batman Vs. Superman will feature “the massive rise of Lex Luthor.”

However, a new detail regarding the play has come to light. Last weekend, AMC held a Breaking Bad marathon which included promos for Cranston’s play (see below). The official description for the video on YouTube reads:

STRICTLY LIMITED ENGAGEMENT

Another tidbit: We were previously provided information about a younger actor looked at for the role of Lex Luthor, and now I have new details. I was told it is someone who worked with Henry Cavill on The Tudors.

Bryan Cranston Rumored For Lex Luthor. Again.

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:12777:]]For at least the third time, Bryan Cranston is rumored for Batman Vs. Superman as Lex Luthor.

Cranston’s name first was attached to Batman Vs. Superman along with Mark Strong.

A trusted source close to Warner Bros. then told me that Bryan Cranston had been cast as Lex Luthor with the announcement supposed to have been made after the Breaking Bad series finale.

Obviously the announcement never came, and when I inquired about it, I was told that Cranston had changed his mind in favor of doing Broadway plays and was going to take a couple years off from villain roles following Breaking Bad.

I was told with Cranston bowing out, and with Mark Strong looking likley he would be unavailable due to his new AMC TV show, that it was back to the drawing board for Warner Bros. search for Lex Luthor.

Following that, I was told Tom Hanks was being thought about, and other names including Terry O’Quinn and Denzel Washington surfaced. It was then rumored Warner Bros. had begun looking at younger actors for the role with Joaquin Phoenix mentioned.

Now the editor-in-chief of AMC Movies is hearing through the grape vine that Bryan Cranston is Lex Luthor.

He posted a couple tweets mentioning it.

When Cranston wasn’t announced, I initially asked if WB got cold feet because of the leak, and asked if the information about Cranston bowing out was an attempt to cover it. Guess we’ll find out soon enough.

Cranston does seem to be the fan-favorite choice to play Lex Luthor by a large margin. Commissioner Gordon also gets a mention.

“Batman Vs. Superman” has a July 17, 2015 release directed by Zack Snyder starring Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill and Gal Gadot.
