Simon Kinberg Compares X-Men Legion TV Series To Breaking Bad

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:22988:]]

Fox is currently developing two new TV series based on X-Men properties with Hellfire Club and Legion.

Now we get some details from X-Men writer/producer Simon Kinberg about the series as well as Gambit.

Regarding Gambit, Kinberg describes it as a “heist movie and a sexy thriller in a way.”

Kinberg told Collider the following about Legion and Hellfire Club, going so far as to compare Legion to Breaking Bad (yes, Kinberg was involved with Fantastic Four).

“Legion and Hellfire are both super active. Hellfire we’re hoping to be shooting at the beginning of next year, the pilot. It’s been extraordinary working with Noah Hawley [on Legion], who I think is a straight up genius. Actually the idea forLegion, it began in conversations with Lauren Schuler Donnerand Bryan Singer and Noah me, but I remember I was actually in Moscow last year about to go into a dinner, I was there for the Days of Future Past premiere, and I was sitting in a car outside a restaurant about to go into dinner. It was really early on in the process, like one of the first conversations, and Noah and I were on a call just the two of us just riffing ideas, and I was sitting outside what I thought was gonna be like a 10 minute call and I ended up sitting out there for three and a half hours, missing the dinner. Everybody had not only had the dinner but went home, and I just got off that call being like, ‘It’s midnight in Moscow but we have to make this show with this guy because he’s so brilliant.’ So that’s really ramping up now, the production’s ramping up to start shooting at the beginning of the year with FX.”

“I mean the thing that’s cool and that’s the hope in branching out to TV is that we can tell these X-Men stories in a slightly different way and even with a slightly different tone. It’s one of the thing we’re kind of doing in the different movie franchises. I mean Deadpool obviously has a very different, almost antithetical tone to the mainline X-Men movies. The X-Men movies are dramatic and almost operatic, whereas Deadpool is irreverent and hysterical and sort of a dirty R-rated comedy in many ways. And Gambit will have its own different flavor and tone to it, will be more of like a heist movie and a sexy thriller in a way. So the TV shows give us an opportunity to go even further and certainly what I’m seeing on Legion with Noah and FX is an intent to do something completely original in the genre, in some ways to sort of blow up the paradigm of comic book or superhero stories and almost do our Breaking Bad of superhero stories.”

“The Hellfire script we have an amazing writing team, really two writing teams working together on it, and also that will shoot next year.”

Watch: Better Call Saul Extended Trailer

AMC has released an extended trailer for the upcoming Breaking Bad spinoff, Better Call Saul.

Better Call Saul kicks off with a two-night series premiere on Sunday, February 8th at 10/9c and Monday, February 9th at 10/9c.

About

Better Call Saul is the prequel to the award-winning series Breaking Bad, set six years before Saul Goodman (Bob Odenkirk) became Walter White’s lawyer. When we meet him, the man who will become Saul Goodman is known as Jimmy McGill, a small-time lawyer searching for his destiny, and, more immediately, hustling to make ends meet. Working alongside, and often against, Jimmy is “fixer” Mike Erhmantraut (Jonathan Banks), a beloved character introduced in Breaking Bad. The series will track Jimmy’s transformation into Saul Goodman, the man who puts “criminal” in “criminal lawyer.”

The series also stars Michael McKean as Chuck, Rhea Seehorn as Kim, Patrick Fabian as Hamlin, and Michael Mando as Nacho — characters that will represent both legitimate and illegitimate sides of the law.

Breaking Bad creator and showrunner Vince Gilligan and Breaking Bad writer and producer Peter Gould created the show together and serve as co-showrunners of the premiere season. Gilligan directed the first episode of the series, which has already been greenlit for a second season of 13 episodes. The debut season will consist of 10 episodes.

Breaking Bad’s Jesse Plemons Up For Lead In Star Wars: Episode VII

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:13056:]]

It’s reported by The Wrap that Plemons is coming back for a repeat audition which will land him face to face with Abrams.

Awesome: Breaking Bad’s Walter White Is Responsible For The Walking Dead Zombie Apocalypse (Video)

This week you are probably hearing more about Breaking Bad than at any other point in the show’s existence, and there are a couple reasons why that is.

First, Breaking Bad is a really good show, on par with The Sopranos and The Shield (Vic Mackey version).

Second, this Sunday sees Breaking Bad wrap up its five year run with the series finale.

And third, there is this.

Another great AMC show on TV is The Walking Dead, which sees a group of people banding together trying to survive a zombie apocalypse. It hasn’t been stated what caused the infection and outbreak, but the following video may hold the answer.

College Humor went and put together the following Breaking Bad and The Walking Dead mash-up video where Walter White is responsible for the zombies. It’s nicely cut with scenes from both series. Who knows? Maybe Breaking Bad is a prequel to The Walking Dead.

Another theory floating around is that Breaking Bad is actually a prequel to Bryan Cranston’s other famous series he is known for with Malcolm in the Middle. The joke goes that the end of Breaking Bad sees Walter White get a new identity and start over as the father in Malcolm in the Middle. If you are behind any episodes of either series, they are both on Netflix. Highly recommended.

Need For Speed (2014) Trailer Now Online Starring Breaking Bad’s Aaron Paul

The Need For Speed trailer is now online, which is the new movie based on the video game property of the same name.

Breaking Bad‘s Aaron Paul stars as Tobey Marshall with the movie also featuring Dakota Johnson, Michael Keaton, Imogen Poots, and Dominic Cooper.

Need For Speed debuts March 14, 2014.

Synopsis:

Based on the most successful racing video game franchise ever with over 140 million copies sold, DreamWorks Pictures’ “Need for Speed” captures the thrills of the game in a real-world setting. An exciting return to the great car-culture films of the 1960s and ’70s, when authenticity brought a new level of intensity to the action, “Need for Speed” taps into what makes the American myth of the open road so enticing.

The story chronicles a near-impossible cross-country race against time—one that begins as a mission for revenge, but proves to be one of redemption. In a last attempt to save his struggling garage, blue-collar mechanic Tobey Marshall (Aaron Paul)—who with his team skillfully builds and races muscle cars on the side—reluctantly partners with wealthy, arrogant ex-NASCAR driver Dino Brewster (Dominic Cooper). Just as a major sale to car broker Julia Bonet (Imogen Poots) looks like it will save the business, a disastrous, unsanctioned race results in Dino framing Tobey for manslaughter.

Two years later and fresh out of prison, Tobey is set on revenge with plans to take down Dino in the high-stakes De Leon race—the Super Bowl of underground racing. To get there in time, Tobey must run a high-octane, action-packed gauntlet, dodging cops coast-to-coast and dealing with fallout from a dangerous bounty Dino put on his car. With his loyal crew and the surprisingly resourceful Julia as allies, Tobey defies odds at every turn and proves that even in the flashy world of exotic supercars, the underdog can still finish first.

Breaking Bad Brings Home 2013 Emmy For Best Drama (Video)

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:11231:]]

Breaking Bad has won the Emmy Award for Best Outstanding Drama beating out the likes of Game Of Thrones, House of Cards, Downtown Abbey, Homeland and Man Men.

Earlier in the show saw Anna Gun win the Emmy Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama, her first. Gunn plays wife to Bryan Cranston’s Walter White with Skyler.

Bryan Cranston didn’t win the best lead actor award in a drama series, which went to Jeff Daniels of HBO’s Newsroom.

Likewise, Aaron Paul didn’t win for best supporting actor, which went to Boardwalk Empire’s Bobby Cannavale.

This year saw Breaking Bad nab 13 Emmy nominations with a total of 42 to date.

As the finale season of Breaking Bad is currently airing, you can expect Breaking Bad to be up for numerous Emmy Awards next year, as well.

Check out video of Anna Gunn winning the Best Supporting Actress Award:
