Matt Damon Would Play A Ben Affleck-Directed Super Hero

As Matt Damon happens to be best friends with Ben Affleck, many fans have joked about Damon playing Robin to Affleck’s Batman.

Speaking with the Irish Examiner, while Damon laughs at the idea of Robin, he does admit he would be open to playing a superhero if Ben Affleck was directing.

“I’d consider anything with the right director, but I can’t imagine there are any superheroes left, I think they’re all taken at this moment,” Damon said. “If [Ben] was directing me, I’d jump on it in a New York minute. I’d love to work with Ben.

“The problem with Ben is every time he directs a movie, he gives himself the best role in it,” Damon continues. “So until he’s willing to give up the best role to one of his friends, we’re not going to get on with it.”

As noted, perhaps with Affleck unwilling to give up the best superhero role (Batman), maybe Matt Damon could take on the role of a villain?

Or for that matter, a superhero that hasn’t yet been cast in the DCEU: Matt Damon as Green Lantern Hal Jordan?

Matt Damon has also drawn some heat as of late over his words regarding gun control. The actor makes his living making millions off of movies that include guns, but Damon recently stated he would like to see the U.S. adopt Australia’s strict gun control laws.

Ben Affleck Calls Out Matt Damon on Bourne Vs Batman (Video)

Back a few months ago at the Toronto film festival, Matt Damon stated he thinks his Jason Bourne could kick the sh-t out of Batman.

Now those words have gotten back to Ben Affleck, and it may not be good news for longtime pal Matt Damon.

“Matt is going around saying this all over the place but not to my face,” Affleck told E! News, with Henry Cavill laughing along. “But Matt can’t even beat me up, never mind Batman. You know what I’m saying? He has a long way to go. They’re just finishing the Bourne movie now in London, and when we go over there and have our premiere in London, we’ll see Matt, so then he can go take me up on it.”

Matt Damon Returns For Bourne 5

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:17195:]]

It’s become known that Universal Studios is moving forward on a fifth “Bourne” movie that will see not only Matt Damon return, but also Paul Greengrass to direct.

Both previously stated they would do another “Bourne” film if the script was right.

Regarding a sequel to the Jeremy Renner 2012 Bourne Legacy, Deadline is reporting that Universal is putting it on the backburner for the new Matt Damon “Bourne” flick.

It’s stated that Universal, Damon and Greengrass are presently talking and coming to terms for an agreement, which would be their third film together. Greengrass directed The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum, which were the latter two of Damon’s run.

Universal apparently wants this ASAP as it is giving “Bourne 5” the July 16, 2016 release date that was being held by the Renner sequel.

It’s is stated the Jeremy Renner sequel spinoff is still considered in development with Fast & Furious architect Justin Lin attached.

The Bourne Ultimatum, Damon’s last that was released in 2007, netted almost $500 million worldwide; Renner’s Bourne Legacy totaled close to $300 million.

Matt Damon In Talks To Return To Bourne Franchise

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:10516:]]

Last we heard about Matt Damon possibly returning to the popular Bourne franchise was that the actor would only consider it if the director on Supremacy and Ultimatum, Paul Greengrass, would be brought back, as well as the new movie featuring a quality storyline.

That now appears to be the case as TwitchFilm reports that Universal Pictures is in talks with Matt Damon and Paul Greengrass.

No other details are mentioned, and it’s not stated how the return of Damon and Greengrass would affect Jeremy Renner; if at all.

Update: Universal Pictures says there is no truth to the rumor about Damon and Greengrass (via Variety).

A couple weeks ago it was also reported that Universal hired a screenwriter to pen the fifth Bourne installment which would star Renner as Aaron Cross.

Last year’s The Bourne Legacy with Renner brought in over $275 million.

As it stands, all four of the Bourne films have raked in over a billion for Universal.
