Black Panther

Marvel Studios’ Black Panther follows T’Challa who, after the death of his father, the King of Wakanda, returns home to the isolated, technologically advanced African nation to succeed to the throne and take his rightful place as king.

Stan Lee Says Black Panther Isn’t Scheduled Yet

Last week saw Stan Lee state they are already working on a Black Panther Movie, and now the legendary creator offers a further update.

While attending the Salt Lake Comic Con this past weekend, Stan Lee was asked about a Black Panther movie once again.

Stan Lee stated he’s doesn’t know particulars about when it will be released, but offers it’s in the pipeline.

“Oh, I wish I knew. I love the Black Panther. I know that they’re figuring out how to do the movie. I don’t think it’s scheduled yet, but be patient, because sooner or later the Black Panther will strike.”

With Joss Whedon having filmed The Avengers 2 in part in Africa, many fans online are speculating an appearance by the Black Panther as the character lives in the fictional African nation of Wakanda, but perhaps more importantly, it’s thought the villain of the film, Ultron, will go to Wakanda seeking the metal Vibranium.

Marvel Studios also has a slate of untitled movies set with released dates. Perhaps Black Panther is among them:

Avengers: Age Of Ultron: May 1, 2015

Denzel Washington As Black Panther?

With it looking likely that Marvel Studios is moving forward with a Black Panther movie, how about Denzel Washington up for the role?

In a recent Reddit QnA, the actor mentioned the character when asked about playing Luke Cage or Green Lantern.

Didn’t they do the Green Lantern? With Ryan Reynolds! Too late! Green Lantern Returns? Isn’t there a comic book, the Black Panther or something?

Cinema Blend then caught up with Washington and asked further about it; however, don’t keep your hopes up.

I’m probably getting too old. They didn’t make the Black Panther yet, though, did they? I heard that they have been talking about it. That’s cool.”

Stan Lee recently seemingly confirmed a Black Panther film and many are expecting the character to appear in The Avengers 2. In addition, Marvel Studios president and producer Kevin Feige mentioned Black Panther is one of the most requested Marvel characters for a movie.

Denzel Washington can be seen in “The Equalizer,” in theaters September 26th. Check out the trailer:

Stan Lee Confirms Black Panther Movie In Development

Stan Lee attended Fan Expo in Canada where he mentioned that a Black Panther movie is happening.

While discussing if there will ever be a Black Widow movie, Lee stated more than likely she will eventually get one – as they all will – and confirmed Black Panther (via CBR).

“We haven’t made a Black Widow movie but she’s been in some of our movies, and she will be featured more prominently as we move forward. And the chances are she will have her own movie because eventually all the superheroes are going to have their own movies. They are already working on Ant-Man, Dr. Strange and the Black Panther and there are others I am not allowed to talk about.”

Stan Lee has previously mentioned Black Panther a number of times, and he has also mentioned Inhumans as well.

To date, nothing official has been announced regarding Black Panther, but recently, Marvel Studios president and producer Kevin Feige did state that Black Panther and Ms. Marvel were the two most requested characters.

With Joss Whedon filming parts of The Avengers 2 in Africa, it’s speculated Black Panther might make an appearance. It makes sense as Ultron might be after the fictious metal vibranium, which is found in Black Panther’s home of Wakanda.

Recently, it’s been suggested that Chadwick Boseman may be in talks for Black Panther.

Chadwick Boseman May Be In Talks For Black Panther (Video)

Kevin Feige recently seemed to hint at Black Panther in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and now it’s possible that Chadwick Boseman may be in talks for the role.

Boseman appeared on 105.1’s Breakfast Club radio show where he was asked about the Black Panther rumor.

Boseman laughed and basically kept replying, “I don’t know nothing about it,” over and over as the radio personalities mentioned Black Panther.

One of the radio personalities then mentioned that a contract would need to be signed, with Boseman agreeing and slipping in: “Show me that you want it.”

Boseman is playing James Brown in Get On Up as well as Thoth in Gods Of Egypt.

5 New Marvel Movies Coming For 2017-2019

It’s been learned that Marvel Studios has plans for five more movies that will be released between 2017 and 2019.

The titles of the five movies are currently unknown, but it’s speculated Marvel will be announcing them next week at Comic-Con.

To date, that would make seven Marvel Studios release dates with the titles not known, but expect some of those dates for Doctor Strange, Thor 3 and The Avengers 3.

It’s possible some of the other movies could be for Iron Man 4, possibly a Hulk standalone film, Black Panther and Inhumans.

Here is the list to date:

Guardians of the Galaxy: August 1, 2014
Avengers: Age Of Ultron: May 1, 2015
Ant-Man: July 17, 2015
Captain America 3: May 6, 2016
Untitled Film: July 8, 2016
Untitled Film: May 5, 2017
Untitled Film: July 28, 2017
Untitled Film: November 3, 2017
Untitled Film: July 6, 2018
Untitled Film: November 2, 2018
Untitled Film: May 3, 2019

Marvel Studios has confirmed an appearance at Hall H for next Saturday at Comic-Con, but hasn’t released specific details. Michael Douglas has said he will be attending, which means something Ant-Man related will be presented.

First 10 Minutes Of The Avengers 2 To Be Set In Africa; Filming Delayed In Johannesburg

Marvel Studios cancelled filming for The Avengers 2 today in Johannesburg, South Africa and will begin filming tomorrow on Tuesday.

The Metro Police let the news be known as MyBroadBand reports road closures will go into effect tomorrow for filming.

“The filming company informed us they have cancelled filming on Monday,” Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said.

It’s said streets will be closed starting at 6pm tomorrow until Wednesday morning.

It’s further said that various streets will be closed down as filming continues until February 23rd.

We also get some news in regards to the city of Johannesburg appearing in The Avengers 2 as it’s reported the location will be featured in the first ten minutes of the movie.

Since Johannesburg is in South Africa, speculation led to the city being the location for Black Panther and Wakanda; however, Sabreakingnews says Johannesburg will be in the movie, which may put an appearance by Black Panther in doubt.

“The great thing about this movie is that they are shooting Johannesburg as Johannesburg,” Gauteng Film Commission’s Desmond Mthembu told EWN. “Often you will find filmmakers will shoot in Johannesburg and portray the location as Los Angeles. This time around the first 10 minutes of the film will be of Johannesburg.”

Of course that doesn’t necessarily rule out an appearance by Black Panther as parts of Johannesburg could still be used for Wakanda or who knows, maybe T’Challa heads to South Africa to broker a vibranium deal.

As we previously mentioned, Johannesburg is home of gold mines that would make a great location for the Wakanda vibranium mines.

Stan Lee also most recently told Larry King that a Black Panther movie is coming soon.

“The Avengers: Age Of Ultron” hits May 1, 2015 directed by Joss Whedon starring Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson and Mark Ruffalo with James Spader as Ultron.

Black Panther Movie Coming Soon Says Stan Lee (Video)

It was just learned that The Avengers: Age Of Ultron will be filming in South Africa leading to speculation of the involvement of Black Panther, and now a new video has surfaced of Stan Lee stating a Black Panther movie is coming soon.

Larry King caught up with Stan Lee to talk about the new animated superhero series, Stan Lee’s Mighty 7, and noted the show contains different ethnicities.

Stan Lee goes on to mention how they are creating Indian and Latino superheroes with mention of black characters at Marvel with the Black Panther.

“We have a black one. Marvel has one called the Black Panther, which will be a movie pretty soon,” Lee offered.

This isn’t the first time Stan Lee has mentioned a Black Panther movie as the legendary creator stated a Black Panther film was in development back in October of last year as well.

As the Black Panther lives in the Marvel Comics fictitious African nation of Wakanda, speculation has it that Marvel is using South Africa as the location.

“The Avengers: Age Of Ultron” hits May 1, 2015 directed by Joss Whedon starring Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson and Mark Ruffalo with James Spader as Ultron.

The Avengers 2 To Film This Month In Johannesburg, South Africa: Black Panther & Vibranium?

It is learned that Marvel Studios and Joss Whedon will film The Avengers: Age of Ultron this month in Johannesburg, South Africa and other parts of Gauteng.

South Africa’s News 24 confirms the news mentioning that action sequences will be filmed throughout the ciy, but notes that no principle actors will be present.

It’s said filming in South African for The Avengers 2 will last about a couple weeks as well.

“We’re thrilled that Marvel Studios is bringing a major motion picture project to Johannesburg, and we’re committed to showing them the very best our region has to offer,” Gauteng Film Commission CEO Phindile Mbanujwa mentioned.

Fans are already speculating that this could be the location of Black Panther as in the comics the character is the leader of the African nation, Wakanda. It’s possible this is where Ultron gets its armor as Wakanda is also home of the Marvel Comics fictitious metal vibranium, which is a metal that makes up part of Captain America’s shield. Johannesburg happens to be known for its gold mines.

Watch Stan Lee Say Black Panther Is In Development & No Batman Vs. Superman Cameo (Video)

Below you can watch Stan Lee as he gets hounded by the paparzzi where the legendary creator says a Black Panther movie is in development.

The beginning of the video also sees Stan Lee mention a cameo in Batman Vs. Superman, which he previously joked about, and now says will never happen.

Just a couple days ago, Marvel Studios president and producer Kevin Feige stated a Black Panther movie is “absolutely in development” as well.

Black Panther Movie Absolutely In Development Says Kevin Feige (Video)

A Black Panther movie is “absolutely in development” says Marvel Studios president and producer Kevin Feige in the following video while promoting Thor 2.

BlackTree TV has two Marvel movies they want to see with Black Panther being one and the other a Tom Hiddleston Loki movie.

Kevin Feige replies that he has been asked a lot about a Loki movie lately, but offers much what we have been hearing in that there are no plans as of right now.

The good news is that there are plans for Black Panther.

“In terms of Black Panther, it’s absolutely in development,” confirms Feige. “When you have something as rich as Wakanda and his back story, clearly vibranium has been introduced in the universe already. I don’t know when it will be exactly, but we have plans to bring him to life someday.”

Recently, Natalie Portman hinted at a possible Black Panther movie as well.

Check out Kevin Feige talking Loki and Black Panther movies:

Marvel Studios Looking To Release 4 New Series Through Cable & Video-On-Demand

It’s being reported that four new potential series and a mini-series are in early stages of development at Marvel as the studio is aiming for a release through cable or video-on-demand.

Deadline has details that 60 episodes are being ordered for something, but no further information is known.

All that is really known is that Marvel is looking to release the four new series and min-series through either cable channels and/or WGN America, Netflix, Amazon and WGN America. No actors are attached.

We can speculate that the cable or VOD release means the potential new series would mean a more serious and graphic approach than say something like Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. on ABC.

It’s possible Marvel could be going for something like The Walking Dead, which saw record ratings last night to the tune of 16.1 million viewers. AMC’s The Walking Dead is based on the comic book and includes graphic violence and a serious approach to the story.

While S.H.I.E.L.D. seems to be doing okay through DVR’s and such, the live audience has dropped upwards of around 40% in only three episodes.

Cable television seems where most of the new TV series “are at,” as Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad, Mad Men, Sons of Anarchy, American Horror Story are all popular shows. In addition, Netflix has seen a great response to their own VOD series with House of Cards.

It will be interesting to see which characters Marvel chooses to use to go this route. Black Panther? Heroes For Hire, which Head of Marvel TV Jeph Loeb previously mentioned was being looked at? Or how about The Punisher? Perhaps a female centric series such as the Agent Carter series said to be in development?

Natalie Portman Hints At Ms. Marvel & Black Panther Movies?

Natalie Portman all but confirms Marvel Studios is developing movies for a central female figure as well as one for a non-white role.

Portman, playing Jane Foster in November’s Thor 2, tells SciFiNow that she heard it’s already in the works.

“There are definitely many strong women, but it will be exciting when there is a central female character which I think is coming – I have heard is coming – and, of course, also a central non-white character will also be exciting. Title characters.

“But they do definitely have strong female characters in them and I think it’s a testament to the people who run Marvel, their respect, their just normal human respect for women, the way they want to characterise them; you can tell when men talk to you, as just a person or as a ‘woman’”

There has been recent speculation and talks that the female character could be Ms. Marvel, of which Katee Sackhoff has been rumored to be attached to; however, it did just become known that Marvel Studios is in early stages of developing an Agent Carter TV series.

Regarding the non-white character, it’s speculated that could be the Black Panther, as Stan Lee recently stated Marvel Studios will be doing a film based on the superhero from Wakanda. Another possibility is for Luke Cage, an Avenger in the comic books and member of Heroes For Hire. Back in January, Head of Marvel TV Jeph Loeb mentioned, “Just like they announced Guardians of the Galaxy, we are certainly looking at Heroes For Hire, which is Luke Cage and Iron Fist.”

“Thor 2” hits theaters November 8th.

Stan Lee Says Inhumans Movie Probably Coming & Ben Affleck Will Be A Great Batman (Video)

Stan Lee once again mentions upcoming potential Marvel Studios movies with Black Panther, Doctor Strange and Inhumans.

This is at least the third time in the last year or so that Stan Lee has mentioned them as being in development, which would most likely be for the Marvel Studios Phase 3 plans.

We also know it looks likely that Vin Diesel will be attached to one of them as Diesel said he will be launching a new franchise with Marvel in 2016; perhaps it is Inhumans after all, and Diesel will play Black Bolt.

Below in the following video (via TooFab), Stan Lee first talks about Ben Affleck as Batman stating he thinks he will do a great job.

Stan Lee then goes on to say about the potential Marvel Studios Phase 3 movies: “They are going to do the Black Panther. They are going to use Doctor Strange. They are going to do Ant-Man. They are going to do the Guardians of the Galaxy. They will probably do the Inhumans. They are going to do all of them sooner or later.”

Interestingly enough, Marvel Comics is launching a new Inhumans event and ongoing comic book series at the beginning of 2014. Marvel usually doesn’t bother much with the lesser known characters (i.e. Guardians of the Galaxy) unless something bigger is being planned in the movies or TV.

Black Panther Or Heroes For Hire/Luke Cage Could Be Announced At Comic-Con Saturday

There already is a large presence at Comic-Con by Marvel Studios with their displays for Captain America 2 and Thor 2.

Both movies are part of the Marvel Studios panel in Hall H at Comic-Con Saturday.

It’s also recently been confirmed that a Guardians of the Galaxy movie preview will be featured.

Now it’s possible that Kevin Feige may also announce a slate of new movies.

Disney recently announced untitled release dates for a batch of new Marvel Studios movies.

It’s thought the Doctor Strange movie might be one of them, but what else?

Well, a clue was made known today at the Marvel Comics My Cop O’ Joe Panel at Comic-Con.

CinemaBlend points out that a fan in attendance asked Joe Quesada if there would be any Marvel minorities hitting the big screen.

Quesada replied simply with, “It will happen.”

The top two Marvel Comics minority characters that have been making the rounds online as of late are Black Panther as well as Luke Cage.

Many actors have recently stated they want to play the characters, including Dwayne Johnson, which could mean Marvel Studios is actively seeking actors for the parts.

It’s also previously been said that a Heroes For Hire movie with Luke Cage and Iron Fist is being looked at.

Perhaps we’ll get both. Tune in tomorrow to find out.

Stan Lee Says Silver Surfer Movie A Possibility; States Doctor Strange & Black Panther Again

Back in November of 2012, Stan Lee said Doctor Strange, Black Panther and the Inhumans were either being worked on or are in development.

Now, coming out of Wizard World NYC (via MTV), Stan “The Man” says more of the same, confirming Doctor Strange and Black Panther, but also stating Silver Surfer.

Well, let me put it to you this way: Back at Marvel, they are frantically looking for what is the next one they’re going to do. There is no way they won’t eventually do a Silver Surfer movie. It may not be for a few years because they’re thinking and working on Doctor Strange, Black Panther, Ant-Man, Guardians of the Galaxy. Everything we have. And the fans seem to want all of them. But they’ll get around to a Silver Surfer feature because he’s a wonderful character.

Currently, Fox Studios owns the rights to Silver Surfer, but interestingly enough it was rumored that Disney tried to nab the rights to the character as well as Galactus in exchange for Daredevil.

It’s since been made known that Daredevil has reverted back to Disney/Marvel Studios, with Fox stating they are not letting go of the Silver Surfer.

Many fans think that the Silver Surfer will appear in the new Fantastic Four reboot being directed by Josh Trank.

Perhaps a Silver Surfer spinoff will come from that?

Black Panther May Be In The Avengers 2 Says Morris Chestnut

Yesterday news surfaced about a possible Black Panther movie with actor Morris Chestnut teasing that he had some reading up to do which included an accompanying comic book cover.

Now we find that Morris Chestnut has confirmed that it is about a potential movie with the following tweet, and that Black Panther may be in The Avengers 2:

Not final. #BlackPanther may be in #avengers2 first. RT @jamaal91604133: @morris_chestnut Can’t wait to see this movie. #BlackPanther

Most likely from the tweet we can gather that Morris Chestnut is auditioning for the role of Black Panther, with it not confirmed that he would play in his own movie or The Avengers 2, but it looks like it was talked about.

Most likely a Black Panther movie would be a part of the Marvel Studios Phase 3 movies which presently includes Ant-Man and most likely a Doctor Strange movie.

The Avengers 2 assembles May 1, 2015 with Iron Man 3 on May 3, 2013, Thor: The Dark World on November 8, 2013, Captain America: Winter Soldier on April 4, 2014, the Guardians of the Galaxy movie on August 1, 2014 and Ant-Man on November 6, 2015..

Morris Chestnut Eyeing Black Panther Movie?

We may have another actor eyeing a potential Black Panther movie as Morris Chestnut posted something rather interesting on his social media accounts.

Previously, we heard from Thor 2 actor Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, who said that he would like to play Black Panther, and also said he was in talks to play another Marvel Studios character.

Now, Morris Chestnut looks to be in the mix of things as he appears to be studying up on Black Panther.

The actor posted an image of a Black Panther comic book with the following text.

It’s time to get familiar with the Black Panther character!

Chesnut could very well be auditioning for the part or maybe just wants to do some extra reading.

Morris Chestnut also has a role in the upcoming comic book movie, Kick-Ass 2.

Thor 2’s Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje Wants The Black Panther Movie

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:5056:]]We just heard from Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, who plays the dual characters Elgrim The Strong and Kurse, in Thor 2, “The Dark World,” letting loose a lot of details as well as perhaps some spoilers about his character and others in the movie.

And as we previously heard, he might be in talks to be featured in another Marvel Studios movie, with the Guardians of the Galaxy previously mentioned (most likely Drax).

Now, MTV News caught up with the actor and asked him about just that, having a featured role in another movie, with this time, the Black Panther movie being brought up.

“Who do I want to play him? Myself, let’s be real. I would hope that playing Kurse would ingratiate me to becoming the Panther. You get in and have success in one, and you go and do the next one. [My campaign] is definitely not dropped,” he told MTV.

“He’s one of my faves. I would love to play him. You have to keep at it, you have to keep your card in the hat and see what comes out but I have to say I’m thrilled, I’ve been able to play two characters in one movie and if [Marvel] likes this and it this does well, it just gives you a better chance,” he said.

Thor 2: The Dark World hammers into theaters November 8th, 2013.

Just What the “DOC” Ordered: Blood On the Streets

(Editor’s Note: Our latest column to hit Cosmic Book News comes from Chris “DOC” Bushley who will be taking a look at the less “cosmic” characters in comic books with his “Just What The Doc Ordered”  OPED column!)

By: Chris “DOC” Bushley

“What We Have Here Is, Failure To Communicate…”

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:3330:]]With Marvel’s focus on the Daredevil-centric crossover Shadowland, there was a resurgence of excitement for the “street-level” heroes. A plethora of new series and one-shot books were coming out, a veritable “heyday” for readers who wanted something grittier and more “down to earth” so to speak.

Heroes For Hire, by DnA, was the first to garner fan praise. Followed by the new gender switch in Ghost Rider and my personal favorite – David Liss on both Black Panther: Man Without Fear and Mystery Men! There was a new teenage Power Man in town, Victor Alvarez, tutored in the martial arts by none other than Iron Fist, and Colleen Wing emerged as the new leader of the Nail! But the biggest push of all came when Marvel announced their “Big-Shots” launch. A trio of books starting in May 2011, that would focus on three distinct individuals with powerhouse creative teams backing them! Moon Knight by Bendis and Maleev, Daredevil by Waid and Rivera and Punisher by Rucka and Checchetto! All amazing books that grabbed the readers from the start! But sixteen months later, Marvel has had little to say about the almost extinct “street” heroes. What happened? Where did they all go? Why are the streets empty?

For one, we know that some books just didn’t have the staying power they should have. The new Ghost Rider was cool, but by issue five, no one cared anymore. The stories were just lacking, well — everything! Some were limited series, Mystery Men for instance, great book but we knew we were in for a finite ride. Moon Knight was canceled right around the time Bendis was given another Avenger book, Avengers Assemble. Black Panther was canceled, Powerman – canceled, Heroes For Hire – canceled!

That leaves us with just Daredevil and Punisher. But, there is blood in the water there as well. We do know that there have been some creative differences. Punisher has been canceled as of issue #16 and we have already reported what Greg Rucka has had to say regarding the “Big Two” and their outlook on the comics industry. We also know that Marco Checchetto was to leave prior to Rucka’s announcement as well. Paolo Rivera has left Daredevil to seek other “creator owned” opportunities. Andy Diggle is writing Doctor Who for IDW and Fred Van Lente is writing the amazing Archer & Armstrong for Valiant. Seems to me there are more than a few issues occurring in the alleys and dimly lit back streets of the Marvel Universe.

Little promotion for the “street” books and an editorial outlook that forced writers to placate to bigger storylines is what truly left the streets barren. If certain characters or stories do not fall into the confines of the cookie cutter regime, they are easily removed. Sound familiar Cosmic fans? It’s the tried and true Marvel way! If it’s not an Avenger or X title, there is little care as to what happens to the property no matter what the fans may want! If it doesn’t fit into their movie franchise ideals — it’s gone!

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:3331:]]So, hopefully Marvel will someday notice that — WE DON”T WANT SEVEN AVENGERS TITLES! WE DON”T WANT NINE X-MEN TITLES! We love the movies, but the books are what made the characters in the movies so good! Not the other way around! We, the people who pay you, like diversity. We like to broaden our horizons, we like to try new things! You make enough money off the Avengers and X titles that you don’t need to cancel fan favorite books just because they only sell 10,000 copies! Unless…that’s just an excuse. I see it now! Let’s look back at my beloved “street-level” books again!

Punisher, Heroes For Hire, Moon Knight, Black Panther, Ghost Rider and “new” Powerman — all canceled! Who is left to patrol the streets as a lone vigilante in the night? My favorite character of all — Daredevil! That’s right, Mark Waid’s great stories have left the blind lawyer unscathed in the culling of street books!

But is it the great stories by Waid or is it something else? Daredevil was also written by Bendis at one time and…oh, yeah I forgot — he’s an Avenger! 🙂 That’s the one two combo to make it in Marvel today — good luck to everyone else!

Twitter Account Roger Wardell Spills The Beans On Marvel Studios Movies (Spoilers)

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:2958:]]Now this is either a planned case of leaked information for publicity sake or Marvel Studios has their “Twitter-gate.”

Of course, option #3 would be it’s all BS.

The Roger Wardell Twitter account has been posting “Inside News” with teases and tips on the upcoming Marvel Studios movies as well as televisions shows.

We’ve already reported on the Adam Warlock and Magus rumor for the Guardians of the Galaxy movie as well as the mention of Doctor Strange in Thor 2, “The Dark World,” played by Viggo Mortensen.

“Roger Wardell’s” further tweets include information on Captain America 2, the S.H.I.E.L.D. TV series, a new Hulk movie, the Black Panther movie and lots more.
