SyFy Never Rejected Battlestar Galactica: Blood and Chrome; Intended Online

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:4016:]]

When Battlestar Galactica: Blood and Chrome was first announced, it was thought by many that their favorite sci-fi series would be returning to SyFy.

Then it was said that SyFy had passed on the series, seemingly “rejecting” the pilot, and angering fans.

However, Blood and Chrome executive producer David Eick says that was not the case, and that Blood and Chrome was intended for an online distribution in 10 serialized episodes.

When asked if there is a 13-episode arc planned out, Eick responded as follows in a conference call with various members of the media.

You can watch the first two episodes right here on Cosmic Book News with more Battlestar: Galactica to be released in the weeks to come.

(Taken from a transcript as follows)

David Eick: No, there was an entire 10-episode arc planned out because this was originally developed as an online project.

And I’m so happy to have such a great and comprehensive cross-section of the press today because I feel like there’s a certain record to set straight which was a little bit frustrating to me a few months ago when I saw the headlines that the Blood & Chrome project had somehow been rejected or was a failed pilot or wasn’t going to make it on the air.

It was never intended to be a traditional pilot, so to speak, such that Syfy not picking it up in a traditional manner to an episodic series was some kind of a rejection or failure. It was always developed at least from my point of view as a project for an online environment. And there’s something that we would develop and structurally, narratively build as a ten-part sort of a series.

Kind of like the Raiders of the Lost Ark style, adapted to the 1930s style movie serials where you have ten minutes of story and a cliffhanger followed by ten minutes of story and the cliffhanger. And then after ten of these episodes, it would all kind of resolve itself in a pre-act structure as a whole movie. And so when I set out to develop this, my thinking was to design a mission, so to speak.

Of course, once the characters and the overall idea had been approved by the network, a mission that could be, as missions often are, in the military sense divided into ten smaller missions. And that’s really what we wound up with and what the audience is going to see. I think where the confusion in is that for a moment the network after seeing the script said, “Gee, we don’t want to rule out the possibility of just advocating the online venture altogether and throwing this up as a pilot for a traditional series to Syfy.”

And there were discussions about that, but for a variety of reasons I think not the least of which was because there was a genuine feeling that we had really designed something altogether of groundbreaking from a visual effects standpoint to stick with the original plan and its future may be online, may be on air, maybe DVD in terms of subsequent future episodes or stories—who knows? But it was never any kind of rejection or failure that this didn’t wind up as another Syfy pilot.

That was always designed to be something much more unique and special than that and I’m thrilled that it’s finally reached its distribution and it’s going to be seen by the people it was intended for.

SyFy Passes on Battlestar: Galactica: Blood and Chrome For TV Series

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:1000:]]Despite the positive reception the Battlestar: Galactica: Blood and Chrome trailer – unofficially released – received among fans as it hit late last night, SyFy has released a statement that they are passing on the BSG prequel for a TV series.

Even though a two hour pilot was green lit and is in production, SyFy president Mark Stern says they will be looking to put the project out in a digital series, as was mentioned at last year’s San Diego Comic Con. However, the pilot will at some point be aired on the network as a movie.

“Though the vision for ‘Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome’ has evolved over the course of the past year, our enthusiasm for this ambitious project has not waned,” Stern said in a statement. “We are actively pursuing it as was originally intended: a groundbreaking digital series that will launch to audiences beyond the scope of a television screen. The 90-minute pilot movie will air on Syfy in its entirety at a future date.”

Apparently what happened with the trailer, was that a science adviser on BSG: B&C showed it off at the recent WonderCon. As we noted, the trailer features a cover of Led Zeppelin’s “Immigrant Song,” which turns out to be Trent Reznor and Karen O’s cover for The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo Red Band trailer. The B&C trailer wasn’t supposed to go public — it was just a demo, but “somehow” it found its way on to the net. NBC Universal has since taken down the videos from YouTube and other file sharing sites.

According to Deadline, Universal Cable Prods, which produces Blood & Chrome, may still shop the project to other networks.

Might be a good pick up for Netflix?

Battlestar Galactica Prequel: Blood and Chrome Trailer Rocks To Zeppelin!

I don’t think we have heard much lately about the Battlestar Galactica prequel, “Blood and Chrome,” other than it is currently in production.

Update: Below trailer was unofficially released and SyFy passes on TV series.

Well, a new trailer has surfaced which sees a cover of Led Zeppelin’s “Immigrant Song” play a part.

And it rocks!

I also don’t think it has been officially stated just how SyFy will deliver the show. At last year’s San Diego Comic Con it was mentioned that BSG: Blood and Chrome may have an online release. However, we do know that a two hour pilot has been green lit, and also composer Bear McCreary has stated he scored the pilot as well.

And as io9 notes, the series deserves to be released on TV, so make some noise BSG fans! — @SyFy!

The hammer of the gods will drive our ships to new lands! So Say We All!

Info:

Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome takes place in the 10th year of the first Cylon war. As the battle between humans and their creation, the sentient robotic Cylons, rages across the 12 colonial worlds, a young, talented fighter pilot, William Adama (Luke Pasqualino), finds himself assigned to one of the most powerful Battlestars in the Colonial fleet: the Galactica. Full of ambition and in pursuit of the intense action that the Cylon war promises, Adama quickly find himself at odds with Coker (Ben Cotton), the battle-weary officer to whom he reports. With 47 days left in his tour of duty, Coker desires an end to battle just as much as Adama craves the start of it. Though they clash at first, the two men forge an unlikely bond when a routine mission turns dangerous and becomes a pivotal one for the desperate fleet.

Joining Pasqualino and Cotton in the cast is Lili Bordan, who will play Dr. Beka Kelly, a Ph.D. who worked for Graystone Industries that created the Cylon robots. Currently assigned to a secret military mission, Beka and Adama quickly establish a rapport.
