Captain America 2: Falcon Will Fly & Battle Spoiler Says Anthony Mackie

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:5028:]]

We just previously heard Anthony Mackie describe his Captain America 2, “The Winter Soldier,” costume for Falcon as being bad a–, and now we learn some specific details about Sam Wilson.

Mackie lets it be known that Falcon will indeed have wings and take to the skies, as well as his character will be battling the title character in the movie.

“I will have wings. I will be able to fly,” Mackie tells AICN. “I will be a superhero and fight people, namely The Winter Soldier.”

We also learn that the movie will not be an exact take on the comic books that feature his character as Mackie lets it be known, “It’s fortunate, because it’s a take off the comic book, it’s not the exactly storyline of the comic book.”

What about Redwing? Redwing is Sam Wilson’s pet Falcon, that in the comic books Sam can communicate with telepathically due to the Cosmic Cube.

“Man, I told you I can’t talk…[laughs],” Mackie said. “This is the first job I got asked to do first, and you’re trying to get me fired first. I have no idea what you’re talking about.”

The Russo Bros. are directing Captain America: The Winter Soldier which has an April 4th, 2014 release date and stars Chris Evans.

Captain America 2: Falcon Looks Like A Bad Mother- Says Anthony Mackie (Video)

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:4994:]]

Steve Rogers will get a little help from his friend, Sam Wilson, in Captain America 2, “The Winter Soldier,” as Falcon is set to take to the skies.

Anthony Mackie will be playing Falcon and offered a bit of news on the movie.

He tells MTV that “the Russo brothers have been really good about keeping me informed of their visions and ideas for what they want the movie to be,” and that “it seems like it’s going to work on all accords, so I’m just excited about it.”

Regarding the Russo brothers’ vision of the Captain America 2, Mackie says that he knows what the Falcon costume looks like, and that “it’s pretty awesome. I look like a bad mother-what. It’s pretty cool,” perhaps at the same time clueing us in that it resembles more the Marvel Ultimate Comics version (pictured right) than it’s red counterpart.

Will Sam Wilson be having a role in any other Marvel Studios movies? Anthony Mackie is pretty much mum on the subject, but offers that Marvel Studios doesn’t do anything without a reason.

“They’re very specific about how they utilize talent from movie to movie,” Mackie told MTV. “They have a long ranging scope on what they want the Marvel franchise to be. They’re real smart about it. Nothing happens by happenstance with them.”

Captain America 2: Anthony Mackie Talks Falcon

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:3111:]]

We just heard from Chris Evans who recently spoke about Anthony Mackie playing Falcon in Captain America 2, “The Winter Soldier,” and now Mackie comments as well.

“I’m playing the Falcon,” Anthony Mackie tells Newsday. “He’s this guy in Harlem who moved to California and became a drug dealer. His plane crashed, and he was genetically altered, and he can fly, has telepathic powers. He’s the first African-American superhero. It makes me feel all the work I’ve done has been paying off. I have a son, nephews and nieces, and I love the idea that they can dress up as the Falcon on Halloween. They now have someone they can idolize. That’s a huge honor for me.”

In the Marvel Comics, Sam Wilson became the Falcon after crashing on an island and getting his powers from the Cosmic Cube via the Red Skull who erases Wilson’s memories of his criminal past. Eventually Wilson meets up with Captain America on the island where they come up with the idea of the Falcon super hero and go on to overthrow the Red Skull.

However, if we look to the Marvel Ultimate Comics version of Falcon, which the Marvel Studios movies more resemble, Sam Wilson is an Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. under Nick Fury with high-tech wings controlled through the use of nanotechnology.

Obviously it remains to be seen which version of the story Marvel Studios will go with, because as we saw in Captain America: The First Avenger, the cosmic cube played a role. Maybe some kind of combination of both?

Chris Evans Confirms Falcon In Captain America 2

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:3036:]]Captain America 2, “The Winter Soldier,” will not only see the return of Sebastian Stan as James “Bucky” Barnes, but also a new hero in the form of the Falcon.

Anthony Mackie was said to play Sam Wilson, Falcon, Captain America’s super hero best buddy with wings, and at the recent Toronto Film Festival Chris Evans briefly mentions that, confirming while speaking to MTV.

“He’s so great,” Evans said to MTV News. “I’ve known Mackie for a few years now. I’m really happy we got him. We got lucky.”

Regarding the title for the movie, “The Winter Soldier,” which is based on comic book scribe Ed Brubaker’s run, Chris Evans said that it was in the planning stages even before The Avengers movie.

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:3037:]]“Even during the first ‘Captain America,’ well before ‘The Avengers,’ there were whispers of [‘Winter Soldier’] being the sequel. So I’m excited to tackle that,” Evans said.

Evans goes on to credit Marvel Studios president and producer Kevin Feige for being such a comic book fan as to the success of the movies.

“The best thing about [Marvel Studios president] Kevin Feige is he’s a fan. He’s not just a businessman, he’s a rabid comic book fan,” he said.
