Charlize Theron Rumored For Captain Marvel

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:20821:]]

Coming off of Mad Max: Fury Road, it’s now rumored 39-year-old actress Charlize Theron is in the running to play the titular character in the Marvel Studios Captain Marvel movie.

According to a source at the Hollywood gossip site OK! magazine, Marvel has been trying to get Angelina Jolie to direct Captain Marvel, and that Charlize Theron is a favorite to play the role of Carol Danvers.

Reportedly, Jolie and Theron are close friends, and the rumor states that if Charlize Theron gets the part, Angelina Jolie would “almost certainly sign on to work with her new pal.”

The Captain Marvel movie still is more than three years off, with a release date of November 2, 2018.

Guardians of the Galaxy screenwriter Nicole Perlman and Meg LeFauve are both writing the Captain Marvel script together based on their individual treatments.

Angelina Jolie was first reported to possibly direct Captain Marvel, as well as Wonder Woman, about six weeks ago.

Angelina Jolie Said To Be Wanted For Wonder Woman & Captain Marvel

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:20073:]]

Update: Patty Jenkins is the new director for Wonder Woman.

With Michelle MacLaren dropping out of the Wonder Woman movie over creative differences with Warner Bros., now a new name has surfaced.

Collider is reporting Warner Bros. is eyeing Angelina Jolie for the job to direct Wonder Woman.

It’s also said Marvel is eyeing Jolie for Captain Marvel.

The problem is that – if Angelina Jolie would even want to – she would have to either pick one or the other as the two movies have close release dates.

Wonder Woman is due out in 2017 from WB, and Captain Marvel hits the following year in 2018.

Angelina Jolie has had critical success as of late with directing her movies Unbroken and In the Land of Blood and Honey and is supposed to direct Africa, which is said to star her husband Brad Pitt.

Jolie recently starred in Disney’s hit movie, Maleficient, which is spawing a sequel.

Obviously it seems both studios are wanting female directors for the movies, but Joss Whedon is now available as he’s taking a break following Avengers 2Whedon is known for his powerful portrayals of female characters and was even once attached to a Wonder Woman movie. Any chance he’s mended fences with WB? Whedon would definitely be a good pick for Captain Marvel.

Grant Morrison Says Angelina Jolie Should Have Played Wonder Woman

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:9888:]]Grant Morrison says good-bye to Batman and hello to Wonder Woman.

The popular comic book creator sees his last issue of Batman Incorporated out Wednesday as he moves on to do the Wonder Woman: Earth One graphic novel with artist Yanick Paquette.

USA Today caught up with Morrison, picking his brain on all things Batman, Superman and the Amazonian Princess, and also questions the writer about Wonder Woman on the big screen.

Morrison has a lot to say on the subject ranging from that Warner Bros. and Hollywood in general are afraid to get behind a female lead, as well as mentions his pick – at one time – for Wonder Woman with a young Angelina Jolie.

People have just convinced themselves that that’s true. I know Warner Bros. isn’t particularly keen on launching movies with female leads, and most of the big studios aren’t. It’s just a thing in Hollywood — they have fears about this. They also believe the audience is composed mainly of 18- to 30-year-old men who don’t want to know about women. (Laughs)

There are certain attitudes that have been around for a while and I think people just don’t question them anymore, and things like Wonder Woman always fall prey to it. I think you could have easily made an amazing Wonder Woman film if you had Angelina Jolie in her prime doing it. I think it would have done well, but I don’t know if there’s a big-name actress who can do it now.

The executives just run these things over in their heads and say, “I don’t know if it’s worth putting money into this. It’s not a surefire hit. The boys want to see Batman brooding.” Believe me, that’s what they think: “Boys don’t want to see a bunch of Amazons running around.”

I don’t know, I guess they’ll do a Justice League movie and then maybe a Wonder Woman movie.

The interview hit at the same time the CW announced a new TV series for The Flash while also announcing that the Wonder Woman series, “Amazon,” was being placed on hiatus.
