Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. Gets Bill Paxton

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:13105:]]

Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. will feature Bill Paxton in an arc said to last at least four episodes beginning in later February or early March.

Update: Marvel confirms Paxton will appear on the March 4th episode.

TV Guide gives us our first look at Bill Paxton as Agent John Garret, who in the Marvel Comics becomes a cyborg to save his life.

Executive producer Jed Whedon offered:

“We wanted to bring in a rough-and-tumble former cohort of Agent Coulson with a little bit of attitude and cigar-smoking swagger. When Garrett got his promotion to Level 7, he refused to sit behind a desk and doesn’t like the formalities of S.H.I.E.L.D. He’s going to help Coulson solve some mysteries and is not afraid to rig an explosive or two.”

Executive producer Maurissa Tancharoen added:

“[Agent John Garret] comes into the fold in a very surprising way. He is the type who wants to stay out in the field no matter how high-level he gets.”

Bill Paxton is known for numerous roles including Aliens, Apollo 13, Hatfields & McCoys and 2 Guns.

Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. airs Tuesdays at 8pm ET on ABC.

Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Jumps By Almost 3 Million Thanks To Rudolph

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:12443:]]

Good news for fans of ABC’s Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. as this week’s episode jumped by nearly 3 million viewers!

And that is more than last week’s Thor 2 tie-in!

“Repairs” scored a total of 9.3 million viewers to last week’s 6.89 million.

A new episode doesn’t return for two weeks, so it will be interesting to see if the audience returns. Add to that, last night’s episode wasn’t the best to date and CBS didn’t show a new episode of NCIS. CBS aired Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer, which was down about 8 million viewers compared to NCIS, so it seems as if some of them decided to check out S.H.I.E.L.D. It’s just too bad last night’s episode wasn’t better.

Regardless, overall the series is pretty fun and the next episode sees the return of  J. August Richard’s Mike Peterson from the first episode in a two-parter.

Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. airs Tuesdays at 8pm ET on ABC.

Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Loses 400,000 Viewers; Ratings Drop Again

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:12275:]]

Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. continues to see a ratings decline despite the last few episodes being for the most part pretty good overall.

This week’s S.H.I.E.L.D. saw a drop of about 400,000 viewers with 6.63 million. Last week the show had just over 7 million.

ABC has already picked up a full season for S.H.I.E.L.D., so for the time being it isn’t going anywhere, but if the numbers continue to fall a Season 2 could be in question.

Critics and fans weren’t happy with the first two episodes. The premiere did well in the ratings with almost 12 million viewers, but fans haven’t been watching subsequent episodes – at least live. S.H.I.E.L.D. does do well on DVR, but that means the advertisers aren’t getting all the bang for their buck as the commercials get skipped over.

My problem with the series has been the sub par writing. Last night’s episode was a prime example that the writing for S.H.I.E.L.D. isn’t there as a senior S.H.I.E.L.D. agent was taken out by a lower ranking member with no repercussions. Obviously the show is trying to have some humor and comedy, but it’s getting a bit ridiculous. Skye’s character wouldn’t have made it past the first day in the military and the same goes for Fitz and Simmons.

We are also continually told that S.H.I.E.L.D. isn’t a show that will feature a lot of Easter Eggs. My question is: Why not? This is the Marvel Universe, and if they think a S.H.I.E.L.D. series was going to hold it’s own with this style of writing, their thinking is way off.

We’ll see if there is a ratings rebound with next week’s episode that is said to tie into Thor 2

Marvel’s Agents Of SHIELD Loses Another Half Million Viewers

[[wysiwyg_imageupload:11922:]]

ABC’s Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. continues to lose viewers as last night’s episode 5 lost another half million viewers compared to the previous week.

S.H.I.E.L.D. had 7.1 million viewers and a 2.6 rating among the coveted adult 18-49 demographic rating at 8pm last night.

The previous week saw 7.6 million viewers and a 2.8.

So far, S.H.I.E.L.D. has lost close to 5 million viewers since the pilot aired with 11.9 million, which was the best debut for any network show in four years.

The first two episodes weren’t all that good with fans letting their reactions be known on various social networks and web sites. The good thing, however, is that the next few episodes have really picked up in regards to story, acting, action and excitement.

While it’s not time to panic, and ABC has ordered a full 22-episode season for S.H.I.E.L.D., EW notes that usually by now new series either stabilize or tend to see an increase in ratings as a lot of the show’s did last night did.
