[[wysiwyg_imageupload:3780:]]Tonight saw the live finale air to the hit make-up special effects show on Syfy with Face Off.
Contestants competed for a grand prize that included a Toyota Prius, guest lecturing at Make Up Forever Academy in NYC and Paris, and a $100,000 prize.
Not too shabby!
The Face Off live show included a look back at this past season as well as a viewer QnA with both the contestants and judges. It was also a Face Off first in that the audience voted for the winner.
It was a great episode and a lot of fun. It was also quite obvious that everyone involved with Face Off truly loves the show. I imagine the producers must be awfully proud that their reality show is built on quality content and not drama. The show is like one big family, and we even see that as some of the previous contestants now help each other out and even room together. Mckenzie Westmore was a natural as she hosted the live show; her enjoyment clearly shined through right into your living room lifting the audience’s enjoyment of the episode as well.
[[wysiwyg_imageupload:3781:]]I watch every episode with my two sons, who are 8 and 4 years old, and they absolutely love it — quite possibly make-up artists in the making.
Getting to the matter at hand, the Face Off Season 3 winner was announced tonight and it was Nicole.
I felt she did deserve to be the winner based on her work from last night’s episode, and not only that, but since her return, her work has been outstanding. I found it interesting what she said in one episode, and something I’ve always wanted to ask the contestants. She said she stopped doing what she felt the judges wanted to see her do, and instead, did what she wanted. It obviously made one heck of a difference.
I wonder how many of the contestants from all the previous seasons “play it safe,” thinking that if they can just squeak on by they will progress to the next episode. And how often has it backfired? Actually, Patrick Tatopoulos, a judge on Face Off, was asked just that and hit the nail on the head when he said to just go for it, put your all into it every time.
[[wysiwyg_imageupload:3782:]]Good job, Nicole.
One small complaint, and this is directed at SyFy. As the winner was announced live tonight and based on the audience votes, how about not putting current results up on Facebook? I was pretty disappointed when I signed on to FB earlier and saw that Nicole had a substantial lead on the other two, which spoiled the show a bit, IMO. I also thought the three contestants – and the audience- knew the results as well, as the two losing contestants didn’t seem as upbeat as the winner throughout the episode, with one even almost coming to tears at times. Maybe they are told prior to the episode who is the winner, or maybe the contestants saw the results of the voting on FB. Regardless, I felt the early results on FB took away from the experience of the live show. Just a thought.
Season 3 of Face Off has ended, but we do have a Season 4 to look forward to. All new episodes return this January with guest stars such as Bryan Singer, the newly announced director on X-Men: Days of Future Past.
Can’t wait.
