New Superman director Zack Snyder recently sat down and chatted about his Watchmen movie, calling it “the anti-Avengers movie,” but the director was also asked about Man of Steel.

In previous interviews with Snyder as well as the cast we’ve heard that this new Superman movie will be more on the serious side, more in line with what Christopher Nolan (producer on Man of Steel) did with the Batman films.

However, speaking with the LA Times Hero Complex, Snyder notes that while it will be serious, it won’t be heart-attack-serious.

It’s a more serious version of Superman. It’s not like a heart attack. We took the mythology seriously. We take him as a character seriously.

Snyder continues with mention that they will be going into this new Superman as if there has never been any previous Superman movies and that it will appeal to everybody.

I believe the movie would appeal to anyone. I think that you’re going to see a Superman you’ve never seen before. We approached it as though no other films had been made.

As we have previously heard from Zack Snyder when asked about involvement in a Justice League movie, Snyder reiterates that Superman is the crown jewel of super heroes.

He’s the king-daddy. Honestly that’s why I wanted to do it. I’m interested in Superman because he’s the father of all superheroes. He’s this amazing ambassador for all superheroes. What was it about him that cracked the code that made pop culture embrace this other mythology? What we‘ve made as a film not only examines that but is also an amazing adventure story. It’s been an honor to work on. As a comic book fan, Superman is like the Rosetta Stone of all superheroes. I wanted to be sure the movie treated it respectfully.
