While attending the recent Toronto Film Festival promoting her latest movie, The Master, Amy Adams spoke on portraying Lois Lane in the upcoming new Superman movie, Man of Steel.
Similar to her super counterpart in the movie, Henry Cavill, Amy Adams is being compared to Margot Kidder just as Cavill is with Christopher Reeve.
Yahoo Movies questioned Amy Adams on the similarity between her character in The Master and Lois Lane, as they are both strong female characters, with Adams responding with mention of Margot Kidder, Superman The Movie, and Superman II.
“It was intimidating because it was played before by Margot Kidder, whom I love,” Amy Adams said. “One of my favorite movies growing up was ‘Superman’ — and ‘Superman 2.’ I was kind of a nerd; I loved them so much. It was important to create a character that was new because I thought she was perfect. It’s hard to step into a role where you thought someone had already achieved what could be achieved. But coming from theater, you’re always stepping into a role that’s been done before, so you’re always excited about it.”
[[wysiwyg_imageupload:3106:]]Now as director Zack Snyder has stated, his version of Superman is going to be a different take than the Richard Donner classics – which we are already getting a taste of if the rumors are true – and Amy Adams reveals that Snyder gave her the go ahead to go with a different Lois Lane as well.
“It’s a totally different realization of the Superman lore, so I felt free in that way because I wasn’t trying to emulate any sort of banter that had been established by Christopher Reeve and Kidder. I was given a lot of permission to create a new character,” she said.
While we don’t have much in regards to just how different Amy Adams’ Lois Lane will be, Adams previously said her Lois Lane is a “pistol” that gets into “trouble,” but at the same time is not “competitive with Clark.”
