UPDATE 2: Supergirl has dropped to last on Nielsen’s chart, with viewing falling every week on HBO Max.
UPDATE: The Nielsen numbers for the HBO Max run are in, and Supergirl came in under Blue Beetle and Black Adam.
Milly Alcock’s Supergirl is in Man of Tomorrow, but don’t expect to see much of her when DC starts selling the movie.
That’s the latest rumor from scooper ThwipT, who posted on X that Supergirl “purposely won’t be shown a lot” in the Man of Tomorrow marketing.
The rumor comes with Supergirl freshly arrived on HBO Max after a theatrical run that ended with the movie as the lowest-grossing DC film of all time.
Man of Tomorrow is built as the DCU’s first event movie, the crossover between the Superman, Supergirl, and Lanterns casts, as another rumor laid out this week.
So Kara Zor-El has a part in the movie. She’s just not going to be the face of it.
Supergirl Bombed With $126 Million Worldwide
Supergirl opened on June 26 to $37.1 million domestic. Morbius opened bigger.
By the end of its run, the movie had $72.4 million domestic and $54 million overseas, for $126.4 million worldwide, per Box Office Mojo.
It was out of theaters after 40 days as the lowest-grossing DC movie ever released.
For comparison, Superman opened to $125 million last summer and finished at $616 million worldwide.
Against a net cost of around $170 million, the projected theatrical loss on Supergirl comes to roughly $244 million.
Warner Bros. Discovery singled out the movie in its second-quarter earnings, where studio profits dropped 89 percent to $96 million.

The reviews didn’t help either. Supergirl sits at 53% on Rotten Tomatoes, and our review gave it a 6/10.
Warner Bros. Already Saw The Supergirl Messaging As Botched
Keeping Supergirl in the background fits what CBN insiders said was happening inside the studio.
Last month, Warner Bros. EVP of Communications Katie Martin Kelley left for Netflix. Deadline called the exit sudden. Per our insiders, it wasn’t ā inside the studio, the Supergirl press messaging was viewed as botched.
The studio’s own Supergirl campaign already showed it. Toward the end of the marketing, Warner Bros. worked David Corenswet’s Superman into the push and leaned harder on Jason Momoa’s Lobo.
Supergirl’s movie was being sold on Superman and Lobo. Now the Superman sequel is being sold without Supergirl.
Then an official Supergirl featurette showed AI was used to design Jason Momoa’s Lobo. WBD yanked the video off YouTube as the backlash spread, and our insiders said the AI use carries over to Man of Tomorrow.
That leaves Superman, Lex Luthor, and Brainiac to carry the Man of Tomorrow marketing ā Brainiac’s look was described as “terrifying” in this week’s other rumor.
Milly Alcock still returns as Kara. James Gunn directed Man of Tomorrow, which wrapped on August 26, and Jason Momoa is rumored to be back as Lobo, though his return hasn’t been confirmed.
Man of Tomorrow opens in theaters on July 9, 2027. Full coverage of the film is here.
