The first opening weekend estimates are in for Street Fighter.
Boxoffice Pro projects Paramount’s video game adaptation to open between $30 million and $40 million domestic.
Street Fighter spent September climbing off the worst numbers of the fall.
The new estimates put a dollar figure on where that climb tops out.

Mortal Kombat II Is The Model
Boxoffice Pro likes the movie’s October chances, calling it a “playful reimagining of the classic fighter game” in a season where video game adaptations are selling tickets.
However, the comparison the outlet lands on oddly is Mortal Kombat II, the other fighting game movie built on the same nostalgia.
MK2 debuted to $38.5 million back in May, and Boxoffice Pro calls an opening in that neighborhood the likeliest outcome for Street Fighter.
Here is how that number turned out the first time. Mortal Kombat II mega-bombed, finishing with $129.6 million worldwide.

The Low End Is He-Man
The bottom of the estimate has its own history.
Street Fighter has also tracked close to Masters of the Universe, which opened to $29.4 million in June and stalled at $113.8 million worldwide.
He-Man was the comparison hanging over Street Fighter all summer, before the September marketing turnaround.
Put simply, the movie is projected to open right between two bombs.
The breakouts are a different story. Boxoffice Pro notes Street Fighter is nowhere near the two Five Nights at Freddy’s films, which opened to $80 million and $64 million.
Mortal Kombat II and He-Man both opened where Street Fighter is projected to land, and neither recovered.
If this one ends differently, it happens after opening weekend.

Street Fighter Hits Theaters In Two Weeks
Street Fighter opens in theaters, IMAX, and RealD 3D on October 16. Kitao Sakurai directs for Paramount, Legendary, and Capcom.
Andrew Koji stars as Ryu, with Noah Centineo as Ken, Callina Liang as Chun-Li, David Dastmalchian as M. Bison, Jason Momoa as Blanka, Roman Reigns as Akuma, Cody Rhodes as Guile, 50 Cent as Balrog, and Orville Peck as Vega.
The estimate becomes a real number on opening weekend.
