Disney’s Fortnite deal now has something you can ride.
Announced at D23, Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run | Fortnite is a first-of-its-kind experience linking the Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge attraction at Disneyland and Walt Disney World to Smugglers Gambit, a brand-new Star Wars island inside Fortnite. Both go live Sunday, August 16.
The reveal came in a conversation on the Walt Disney Imagineering Center Stage with Ray Gresko, SVP and Head of Product and Development for Disney Games and Digital Entertainment, and Imagineering’s Asa Kalama, hosted by Ashley Eckstein.
How The Crossover Works
Guests accept a special mission in the ride queue through the Disneyland app or My Disney Experience app, or from inside the Smugglers Gambit island in Fortnite. Then, during the smuggling run aboard the Falcon, they collect crates for Hondo Ohnaka.
Those crates unlock rewards that carry over into Fortnite, so the story keeps going after riders climb out of the cockpit.
It runs the other direction too: the adventure can start on the planet Ord Ryla in Fortnite and pick up on Batuu.
The post-ride reward includes a Forsworn Trooper Outfit.
Claiming it requires linking a MyDisney account with an Epic Games account, and riders who can’t link accounts get a code to redeem in Fortnite instead.
The mission is included with regular park admission at Disneyland Park in Anaheim and Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Florida starting when the parks open Sunday, and Fortnite remains free on PC, console and mobile.
Welcome To Ord Ryla
Smugglers Gambit was built in-house by Disney Games and Digital Entertainment with Lucasfilm and Imagineering.
It’s set around Mersa Veta Station on Ord Ryla, right in the middle of the kind of risky business Hondo specializes in.
Players team up for co-op missions, battle pirates and Imperial remnants, run into dangerous wildlife, unlock new gear and build a reputation across the Outer Rim, with new characters, locations and stories designed to feel at home in the galaxy.
Gresko and Kalama also discussed how Unreal Engine 5 enables customization on the ride itself, and Disney is pitching the whole thing as an early example of its physical and digital worlds feeding into each other.
Disney’s Fortnite Bet Gets Real
Disney bought a $1.5 billion stake in Epic Games in 2024 with plans for a games and entertainment universe connected to Fortnite, and this is one of the first pieces of that plan fans can actually touch. Details are at Disneydigital.com/fortnite.
