Star Wars turns 50 next year, and according to what I’m hearing at San Diego Comic-Con, Lucasfilm is going all out.
While at the con, I spoke with a Hasbro rep who works on the Star Wars line, and he told me next year’s Star Wars Celebration will be huge as it marks the 50th anniversary of the franchise.
Original Trilogy, Clone Wars, and everything Star Wars
The rep said Lucasfilm is going big with the Original Trilogy stuff for the anniversary.
He also mentioned Clone Wars, but made a point of saying they will be covering everything Star Wars, not just the OT.
He added that Lucasfilm has partnered with tons of companies and is going huge next year, so expect a wave of anniversary products, collaborations, and events across the board.
Star Wars Celebration 2027 and Starfighter
Star Wars Celebration 2027 takes place April 1-4, 2027 at the Los Angeles Convention Center, back in L.A. for the first time in two decades, with guests already announced including Hayden Christensen, Anthony Daniels, and Ian McDiarmid. The original 1977 movie is also returning to theaters in February.
The rep told me the 50th anniversary push will also tie into Star Wars: Starfighter, which conveniently opens in theaters on May 28, 2027, right around the actual 50th anniversary of the original film’s May 25, 1977 release.
Following the box office disappointment of The Mandalorian and Grogu, the 50th anniversary and Starfighter are shaping up to be Lucasfilm’s big swing, something that lines up with our reporting that a massive Star Wars reset is incoming.
Expect Hasbro to be a big part of it all, as the company teased at its Friday Comic-Con panel, and the reveals are now live right here.
