Star Trek fans will finally get a look at the new Star Trek movie, Star Trek Into Darkness —  on IMAX.

While Paramount and J.J. Abrams have been pretty much mum on the entire project, in addition to hardly any promotion, that all changes on December 14th with the premiere of The Hobbit.

Paramount will be showing 9 minutes of footage from Stark Trek Into Darkness on 500 IMAX 3D screens.

Update: The first Star Trek Into Darkness trailer will show with The Hobbit on non-IMAX screens with different footage than the IMAX preview.

This will mark the first time exclusive footage has played on IMAX 3D and only the third time a first look on IMAX will be released.

“Our longtime partners J.J. Abrams, Bryan Burk and the Bad Robot team have really hit it out of the park – the footage is absolutely incredible,” said Greg Foster, Chairman and President, IMAX Filmed Entertainment, as reported by Deadline. “Their use of the IMAX Camera and canvas is sure to impress current and future Star Trek fans alike, and we’re thrilled to once again work with our friends at Paramount Pictures to offer this extended ‘first look’ at this highly anticipated summer blockbuster.”

In addition to the Star Trek Into Darkness footage, it’s currently thought that both the new Man of Steel trailer as well as the new Pacific Rim trailer will be shown with The Hobbit as well.

Bryan Singer also recently let it be known that his new movie, Jack The Giant Slayer, will have a trailer attached as well.
