Star Trek’s 60th Anniversary Takes Over Comic-Con — And William Shatner Isn’t On The List

Star Trek’s 60th Anniversary Takes Over Comic-Con — And William Shatner Isn’t On The List

UPDATE: The captain got his own stage instead. William Shatner is executive producing the 60th anniversary documentary The Sixty-Year Mission, hitting Regal theaters October 9 alongside George Takei, Walter Koenig, and legends spanning the franchise.

Star Trek is going all-in on San Diego Comic-Con this year, and Paramount+ and CBS Studios just laid out the full battle plan.

The studios announced Friday that the franchise’s 60th anniversary celebration hits Hall H on Saturday, July 25, headlined by the cast of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds ahead of Season 4’s July 23 premiere, with a free fan screening, a convention floor takeover, and the original U.S.S. Enterprise model along for the ride.

One name, however, is nowhere on the guest list. More on that below.

‘Star Trek: Strange New Worlds’ Announced For CBS All Access

Star Trek Universe Hall H Panel: Saturday, July 25

The Star Trek Universe panel runs 12:30 to 1:45 PM PT in Hall H, promising exclusive footage, reveals, and surprise appearances as the franchise turns 60.

Scheduled to appear from Strange New Worlds: Anson Mount, Rebecca Romijn, Ethan Peck, Christina Chong, Celia Rose Gooding, Melissa Navia, and Paul Wesley, alongside executive producers Akiva Goldsman, Henry Alonso Myers, and Alex Kurtzman.

The 60th anniversary portion features an intro from Eugene “Rod” Roddenberry and a legacy panel spanning the franchise: Michael Dorn, Robert Picardo, Connor Trinneer, Cirroc Lofton, Doug Jones, Michelle Hurd, Jerry O’Connell, Christina Chong, Karim Diané, and George Takei.

Star Trek William Shatner

William Shatner Isn’t On The 60th Anniversary Lineup

Look at that legacy roster again. George Takei is the lone Original Series representative. The captain is missing.

That stands out because William Shatner just said he would play Kirk again at 95 in TV Guide Magazine’s 60th anniversary special, after the streaming era spent a decade trying and failing to bring him back.

The panel does promise surprise appearances, so consider that the wildcard.

Worth noting: this Hall H is shaping up as the outgoing regime’s victory lap.

Strange New Worlds has wrapped production, and Kurtzman is still billed as overseeing the Star Trek universe, while our insiders say David Ellison and Mike De Luca are teaming to save the franchise once the Paramount-WBD deal closes, taking Star Trek back to its Wrath of Khan and Next Generation roots.

Paramount’s next Star Trek movie has also been speculated to get its first details at the convention.

More Star Trek At SDCC 2026: Booth, Badges, LEGO, And The Original Enterprise

Paramount+’s Press Play Arcade booth (#3529) features a Strange New Worlds Bridge Command Memory Game, where a badge required for that one.

The Paramount+ Lodge at Happy Does (340 Fifth Ave) runs Wednesday, July 22 through Sunday, July 26 with a series-inspired Port Galley and the original U.S.S. Enterprise model, provided by the Roddenberry Estate. It’s off-site and not affiliated with Comic-Con, so no badge is needed.

Strange New Worlds is also taking over the official SDCC badges with an image of the Enterprise flying over the San Diego Convention Center, a design that carries over into the digital souvenir book and a limited-edition shirt at the official merch shop in the Marriott.

Collectors get the Star Trek: The Collector Frontier panel Thursday, July 23 (11 AM, Room 5AB), with Paramount Products & Experiences, the LEGO Group, and Magic: The Gathering teasing exclusive product reveals, plus the Boldly Built LEGO and MTG photo op at the Marriott Marquis running Thursday through Sunday.

And Scopely’s Star Trek Fleet Command hosts a 60 Years of Star Trek archives experience at The Sinclair on G Street (643 G St) from July 24-26, featuring official archive pieces, a Holodeck VR experience, claw machines with Star Trek prizes, and an invite-only community event Friday night.

Star Trek Wrath Of Khan

Star Trek’s 60th Anniversary Is Just Getting Started

Season 4 of Strange New Worlds premieres globally Thursday, July 23 on Paramount+, running 10 episodes weekly through September 24, with Carol Kane and Paul Wesley guest starring.

The franchise’s actual anniversary lands September 8, and Paramount is already rolling out a massive Original Series 60th anniversary Blu-ray gift set, while Wrath of Khan director Nicholas Meyer just detailed how he saved the franchise the first time for $11.2 million.

Between the Hall H celebration, the merger closing, and the reset my insiders have been describing, this 60th is shaping up to be the most consequential moment for Star Trek since 1982. CBN will be covering it all from the convention floor.
