Paramount Home Entertainment is celebrating 60 years of Star Trek the old-fashioned way: with discs.
The studio announced Star Trek: The Original Series 60th Anniversary Blu-ray and DVD sets, plus an Amazon exclusive deluxe gift set, all arriving September 8 on Star Trek Day, 60 years to the day after “The Man Trap” premiered on NBC in 1966. Pre-orders are live now.
Note the date. The Paramount-WBD merger is set to close this month, which means the franchise’s 60th anniversary celebration officially kicks off under David Ellison, where we exclusively reported is teaming with Mike De Luca to save Star Trek at the merged studio.
More on that below, because the timing here is not an accident.

What’s In The Star Trek 60th Anniversary Amazon Gift Set
The Amazon exclusive gift set packs all 79 episodes from all three seasons on 20 discs, along with over nine hours of bonus features, inside deluxe collector packaging created for the anniversary.
The collectibles are the draw: a curated set of nine limited-edition lobby cards showcasing iconic moments and rare behind-the-scenes imagery, which flip over and assemble into a black-and-silver 60th anniversary tribute logo.
There is also an exclusive 4-inch Tiny Vinyl that actually spins at 33 RPM, playing Alexander Courage’s unforgettable theme from all three seasons along with classic sound effects from the show.
The gift set runs $139.99 and is up for pre-order at Amazon now.

Standard Blu-ray And DVD Sets Are Also Coming
Not an Amazon exclusive shopper? The Complete Original Series is also getting nationally available Blu-ray and DVD editions with new 60th Anniversary commemorative packaging, also landing September 8. The standard Blu-ray is priced at $104.99 and is up for pre-order, with a DVD edition available as well.
Worth knowing: these are the previously remastered episodes with the enhanced visual effects that debuted back in 2006. No new 4K restoration is part of this release, so if you already own the complete series on Blu-ray, you are buying the packaging and the collectibles.
Amazon has also launched a dedicated Star Trek TV & Movie Store that gathers every series, film, and limited collector’s release in one place, organized chronologically by production release.

Paramount Bets On Discs While Sony Runs From Them
Now for the fun part.
Sony just confirmed it is ending physical disc production for new PlayStation games in January 2028 and has been getting torched for it ever since, with a report revealing the company is simply waiting for fans to cave.
Paramount is sprinting the other direction: anniversary box sets, collectible vinyl, lobby cards, and an entire Amazon storefront built around owning Star Trek on disc.
Physical media buyers are the collector core of any fanbase, the exact audience Hollywood spent a decade waving off.
And as we broke down this week, the studios are now doing a 180 and courting the very fans they shunned. A 60th anniversary disc campaign aimed squarely at longtime Trek fans is that thesis in action.

The 60th Anniversary Is Shaping Up As Ellison’s Opening Statement
The disc sets are the appetizer.
Per our Hollywood insiders, the Ellison-era Star Trek reboot is going back to its Wrath of Khan and Next Generation roots, the golden run the Kurtzman regime treated as baggage.
Ellison, as sources tell us, has the internal data showing exactly why.
Meanwhile, William Shatner just said he would play Kirk again at 95, and Paramount’s new Star Trek movie is speculated to get its first details at San Diego Comic-Con later this month.
Connect the dots: the merger closes, Comic-Con hits, and then Star Trek Day lands on September 8 with a wave of anniversary product already on shelves. The home entertainment machine is warming up before the ink on the WBD deal is even dry.
September 8 is not just a release date. It is looking more and more like day one of the new regime’s Star Trek.
