Star Trek 2 “Not Making Batman” Says Chris Pine

I believe this is the second reference as of late someone from J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek 2 camp has made in regards to Christopher Nolan’s Batman films.

We still don’t know the official title of the Star Trek sequel, with writer Damon Lindelof previously stating they will be going a similar route to how the latest Batman films did with not having sequential numbering.

What won’t be similar to Nolan’s films is the direction of Part 2, meaning a grittier and darker version compared to the first — Ã  la The Dark Knight and Batman Begins.

“We’re not making Batman. That’s not our deal,” Chris Pine told Total Film Magazine.

The 2009 Star Trek – which followed Batman Begins – was noted for having comedic elements, such as the swelling scene with Kirk’s allergic reaction, and that is something that is carrying over to the sequel.

“There’s comedy, which I think J.J. does a great job of, but, like the first one, there’s some serious issues being dealt with. And I’d say the threat is even greater in this one,” Pine said.

Pine continues, noting how action-oriented Star Trek 2 will be and more on that “greater threat.”

“The force [the Enterprise crew] are met with is much more frightening. It’s relentlessly action-packed and in terms of character development it goes places you’d never expect. The arc is huge for all the characters. It’s a really big story – I can’t hype it enough!”

Chris Pine is also currently filming Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, with Kevin Costner, which we just saw a first look at earlier.

The as-of-yet unnamed Star Trek sequel has a May 17th, 2013 release date in 3D, is directed by J.J. Abrams and stars Chris Pine as Capt. James T. Kirk, Zachary Quinto as Spock, Karl Urban as Leonard “Bones” McCoy, Zoe Saldana as Nyota Uhura, Simon Pegg as Scotty, Anton Yelchin as Pavel Chekov, John Cho as Hikaru Sulu and Benedict Cumberbatch as an unnamed villain.
