We recently posted a “modern trailer” for The Last Starfighter, which was picked up by other sites.
Well, it also happened to be noticed by Seth Rogen, who let it be known on Twitter that he attempted to get the rights in order to do a remake.
Rogen also revealed that Steven Spielberg wanted the rights as well – but get this – couldn’t even get them.
Apparently, The Last Starfighter rights are held by the writer, Jonathan R. Betuel, who is said to have no intentions for a remake or sequels.
Check out the tweets as well as the “modern” trailer for The Last Star Fighter:
@slashfilm @garywhitta @mbotti @mscriptshadow Spielberg himself told me he couldn’t get the rights after I told him how long I’d tried.

@garywhitta @slashfilm @mbotti @mscriptshadow the original writer has the rights and won’t budge from what I hear.
