UPDATE (September 29, 2026): The next series has been revealed: Amazon is replacing Spider-Noir with a Spider-Man Clone Saga series starring Ben Reilly and Kaine Parker.
UPDATE (September 6, 2026): Nicolas Cage has reacted to the cancellation, and Spider-Noir just won five Emmys two days after Amazon pulled the plug.
UPDATE: Read our op-ed on the cancellation: The Audience Is the Boss, Tom Rothman β And the Boss Wanted Spider-Noir Season 2.
Spider-Noir is done after one season.
Amazon has canceled the Nicolas Cage series, Variety reports. The eight-episode show won’t return for a Season 2 on Prime Video or MGM+.
No reason was given.
The timing makes it sting more. The Emmy ceremonies kick off this weekend, and Spider-Noir goes in with 11 nominations β more than any other Prime Video program this year.
Cage starred as Ben Reilly, a down-on-his-luck private eye in 1930s New York pulled back into life as the city’s one and only superhero. It was Cage’s first regular TV role.
Lamorne Morris, Li Jun Li, Jack Huston, and Brendan Gleeson also starred, with Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Amy Pascal among the executive producers.

The Numbers Spider-Noir Put Up
Spider-Noir premiered May 25 on MGM+ and hit Prime Video the next day, with the option to watch in color or black and white.
Per Nielsen, the series was watched for 2.6 billion minutes in its first six weeks. It hit No. 2 on the Nielsen streaming chart and outstreamed The Boys.
Critics have it at 92% on Rotten Tomatoes. The audience score is 90%. My review called it “a hoot.”
The Season 2 question had been open since all eight episodes dropped. Now Amazon has answered it.
Fans Call the Cancellation “Criminal”
Fans lit up social media within minutes of the news.
“To cancel it after one season is criminal,” one fan wrote on X.
Another argued the binge release buried the show β that everybody should have been talking about it week to week all summer instead of watching it drop and fade.
“Did they make this decision while they are high????” another asked.
Variety‘s own comment section piled on, with one reader writing, “Boo, always the good stuff that gets canned.”
Others are already calling for a rescue, floating Disney+ as the streamer that should swoop in and continue the series with Sony.
What It Means for the Amazon-Sony Marvel Deal
Spider-Noir was the first series out of Amazon’s pact with Sony Pictures Television to build shows from the Sony Pictures Universe of Marvel Characters β a pool of more than 900 characters tied to Spider-Man.
It wasn’t supposed to be first. Silk: Spider Society, with Angela Kang as showrunner, was greenlit before it and later scrapped. Sony has since walked back its spinoff movie universe, leaving TV as the place these characters were actually connecting.
The deal isn’t dead. Per Deadline, the Amazon-Sony partnership is pressing ahead with multiple projects in development. One is said to be close to a series order, and the concept is being kept under wraps.
Variety reports that next series is expected to be announced soon.
Deadline also notes Amazon was expected to wait and see how Spider-Noir performed before deciding on the other shows. The show is gone, but the rest of the slate is moving forward.
Whatever comes next will follow the same release pattern Spider-Noir did: a linear debut on MGM+, then streaming on Prime Video.
On the movie side, Spider-Man is doing just fine: Brand New Day just crossed $900 million domestic and $2.3 billion worldwide.
So the character prints money in theaters, and the show had the reviews, the Emmy nominations, and the Nielsen numbers β and Amazon canceled it anyway.
