Sony Sending Spider-Man: Brand New Day Back To Theaters With New Footage

Sony Sending Spider-Man: Brand New Day Back To Theaters With New Footage

UPDATE: Brand New Day hits digital October 6 across storefronts.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is headed back to theaters with new footage, according to Deadline.

The site reports Sony is putting together a re-release of the Tom Holland movie with extra scenes added in.

No date has been set, and Sony did not respond to Deadline’s request for comment.

Brand New Day is the biggest domestic movie of all time at $950.7 million and sits at $2.495 billion worldwide, third all-time.

Rosario Dawson’s Claire Temple Is In The New Footage

Deadline’s sources say the extra footage includes Rosario Dawson as Claire Temple, and it isn’t limited to her.

More surprises are said to be in there.

Dawson has said in interviews that she shot a scene for Brand New Day that got cut from the theatrical version.

Dawson’s scene isn’t the only Brand New Day material that went unused. Miles Morales suit prototypes made for the movie just got pulled from auction, and co-writer Chris McKenna has detailed the scrapped drafts that came before the final version.

Claire Temple is the nurse who patches up New York’s vigilantes.

Dawson played her across the first two seasons of the original Daredevil series plus Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist and The Defenders.

Brand New Day Is Still Chasing Avengers: Endgame

The news lands right after Avengers: Endgame Encore opened to $86 million worldwide, with $26 million of that domestic.

The Doomsday footage on premium screens drove that opening, and the run doubles as a marketing play for Avengers: Doomsday, which opens December 18.

The weekend also pushed Endgame‘s lifetime total to $2.885 billion, second all-time behind Avatar‘s $2.92 billion.

Brand New Day needs another $389.7 million worldwide to catch Endgame.

Deadline figures Sony would aim for premium large format screens during a quiet stretch on the calendar. Sony re-released Spider-Man: No Way Home over Labor Day weekend in 2022, and that run added $9.3 million domestically.

Brand New Day already passed No Way Home‘s $1.92 billion to become Sony’s biggest movie ever.

A round of new footage on the big screen gives it a fresh shot at the all-time crown.
