UPDATE: The record fell. Deadline has since revised Thursday’s previews up to a staggering $72 million, past Endgame‘s $60 million all-time mark, and opening day is now headed for a record $167 million to $173 million with Endgame‘s $357.1 million weekend crown in play. Full breakdown: Brand New Day smashes the all-time opening day record.
The preview night is official, and the records are already falling.
Per Deadline, Spider-Man: Brand New Day has passed $50 million in Thursday previews and is still counting, moving ahead of the $50 million posted by Spider-Man: No Way Home in 2021.
At that number alone, three records are locked: the best preview night in Sony history, the best previews of the post-Covid era, blowing past the $38.5 million of Deadpool & Wolverine, and the third-best previews ever recorded.
And the night may not be done climbing.

The Endgame Watch
The all-time preview record belongs to Avengers: Endgame at $60 million in 2019, with Star Wars: The Force Awakens second at $57 million.
Deadline reports some sources were hearing Thursday’s money was exceeding Endgame, and THR’s Borys Kit has a source saying the movie “is having just a massive Thursday and will generate $70M or more.”
The labeling matters: those higher figures are source claims for now, and the official number lands Friday morning. What’s confirmed is $50 million-plus. What’s in play is the biggest preview record there is.
A solo Spider-Man movie, with no Avengers, no multiverse, and not a single IMAX screen domestically, is threatening the most anticipated night in box office history.

What It Does To The Weekend Math
For scale, No Way Home‘s $50 million preview night was 41% of its first Friday, on the way to a $260.1 million opening, the second-best ever behind Endgame‘s $357.1 million.
And the forecasts are being rewritten in real time. The $195 million domestic estimate came from NRG, the National Research Group, the audience survey firm whose polling drives Hollywood’s tracking forecasts. Deadline now calls that number low, reporting that exhibitors, who watch actual ticket sales rather than surveys, and tracking services like Greenlight Analytics see the opening landing between $260 million and possibly $300 million.
Read that range again. The floor beats No Way Home for the second-biggest domestic opening of all time. The ceiling starts a conversation about Endgame.
Stack it with China already tracking toward $130 million to $150 million by Sunday, and the $465 million global projection that looked conservative on Wednesday looks quaint by Thursday night.

The Receipts Trail
Follow the sequence: tracking opened at $180 million to $190 million, NRG bumped to $195 million, rivals whispered $250 million, China tripled its forecast in a day, the audience debuted it at 98%, the best of all nine live-action Spider-Man movies, and now the preview night is chasing Endgame.
Every number this week has come in above the one before it. The fatigued audience keeps buying tickets faster than the forecasts can be revised.
The official preview figure lands Friday morning, and the full weekend verdict comes Sunday. We’ll have both.
