Spider-Man got his Hall H moment, and he spent it getting saved by the Punisher.
Jon Bernthal took the stage at Marvel’s Comic-Con panel on Saturday night, crashing in right after the Ryan Gosling Ghost Rider reveal to remind the room that Spider-Man: Brand New Day opens in theaters in six days, and he brought an exclusive clip with him.
The Clip
The footage, shown only to the Hall H crowd, features Spider-Man and the Punisher fighting Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk, who reports describe as still in Smart Hulk form but beginning to turn savage.
Spidey quips that Frank is out of his league as Castle shoots bullets at the Hulk, with Frank firing back that he’s there “saving your ass” because MJ told him to help. Kevin Feige summed up the room’s reaction: Punisher, Spider-Man, and the Hulk in one movie, and as Feige put it, “I never thought I’d see the day.”
The clip appears to come from early in the movie, with Spider-Man still wearing his web-shooters, before the switch to the rumored organic webbing that’s been teased throughout the marketing.
The Confidence Play
Notice what Marvel didn’t do: on a night stacked with Doomsday reveals, Ghost Rider, and a new Black Panther, Brand New Day got one clip and a Bernthal walk-on. No Tom Holland, and no Sadie Sink on stage either, despite Sink being spotted in San Diego alongside Michael Mando, which means the Jean Grey mystery survived Comic-Con intact.
That’s not neglect, that’s confidence. The movie opens Friday with presales tracking among the biggest of the post-pandemic era, and Marvel clearly decided it doesn’t need Hall H to sell it. The savage-Hulk tease also feeds the running theory that someone is pulling Banner’s strings, which fan speculation keeps tying back to Sink’s mystery character.
