Brand New Day passed No Way Home for third all-time domestic during the week, then won its fourth straight weekend with $39 million, ahead of the $35 million forecast below, for a $854.9 million domestic total. Endgame has since fallen too: Brand New Day is the No. 2 domestic movie ever at $858.4 million.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is about to add another box office record to the list.
Sony and Marvel Studios’ blockbuster will cross $800 million at the domestic box office later today, according to Deadline, reaching the mark in just 19 days.
The previous record belonged to 2015’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which needed 23 days to reach $800 million, according to Box Office Mojo.
Only four movies have ever topped $800 million in North America. Brand New Day is now the fastest to get there, while also giving Zendaya her second $800 million domestic movie and Tom Holland his third.
Brand New Day Joins the $800 Million Club
The other three movies to reach $800 million domestic are:
The Force Awakens finished with $936.6 million.
Avengers: Endgame reached $800 million in 32 days and finished with $858.3 million. Holland was also in the cast.
Spider-Man: No Way Home needed 100 days to reach $800 million, with Holland and Zendaya leading that movie as well.
Brand New Day just cut its predecessor’s pace from 100 days to 19.
No Way Home finished its original 2021 run with $804.7 million before a 2022 re-release pushed its lifetime domestic total to $814.8 million, currently good for third place all-time.
After passing Avatar over the weekend for fourth place all-time, Brand New Day now has No Way Home directly in front of it.
Spider-Man Is Closing In on No Way Home
Brand New Day entered Tuesday with $794 million domestic after earning another $7.5 million Monday.
Sources have its third Tuesday tracking around $9 million, with roughly $4.5 million already reported in raw Rentrak grosses.
The total should push Brand New Day past $800 million by the end of the day.
From there, No Way Home’s original-run $804.7 million should fall within a day or two. Its $814.8 million lifetime total could be passed by the weekend, which would move Brand New Day into third place all-time domestically.
Only Endgame at $858.3 million and The Force Awakens at $936.6 million would remain.
The next major milestone is $900 million.
The Force Awakens is the only movie to ever reach that number domestically, doing it in 50 days. Brand New Day is currently 31 days ahead of that pace and has a real shot at becoming only the second movie ever to reach $900 million.
Brand New Day Expected to Win Fourth Weekend
The movie finally gets some real competition this weekend.
Sony, Blumhouse and Atomic Monster’s Insidious: Out the Further is tracking for a $23 million to $27 million opening. Vertical’s The Magic Faraway Tree and Lionsgate’s Jason Statham movie Mutiny also open.
Brand New Day is still expected to stay No. 1.
Current estimates have it earning around $35 million in its fourth weekend on a 50 percent hold, extending its run atop the box office through the entire month of August.
For comparison, the biggest fourth weekend ever belongs to Warner Bros.’ American Sniper with $89.3 million, although the movie expanded nationwide during its fourth frame after beginning in limited release.
Avatar holds the next-best fourth weekend with $50.3 million.
A $35 million weekend would still keep Brand New Day among the stronger fourth-weekend performances ever.
Brand New Day Is Still Breaking Records
The $800 million domestic milestone comes just two days after Brand New Day crossed $2 billion worldwide in 17 days.
It became the eighth movie ever to reach $2 billion and the second-fastest behind only Avengers: Endgame.
Brand New Day also passed No Way Home’s $1.92 billion worldwide total to become the biggest Spider-Man movie ever.
In just three weeks, Brand New Day has become the fastest movie to $700 million domestic, fastest to $800 million domestic, second-fastest to $1 billion worldwide, second-fastest to $2 billion worldwide, and scored the biggest opening ever.
The two biggest domestic marks left are Endgame’s $858.3 million and The Force Awakens’ $936.6 million.
Brand New Day is ahead of the pace on both.
Deadline’s $800 million figure is expected to be reached by the end of Tuesday, with final actuals to follow.
