Brand New Day is now the fastest movie ever to $800 million domestic, crossing in a record 19 days, off a $71 million third weekend, the second-best ever, that carried it past Avatar to fourth all-time. It also crossed $2 billion worldwide in 17 days, the eighth movie ever and the second-fastest behind Endgame, taking No Way Home‘s $1.92 billion franchise record.
This time two champions fell with one swing.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day crossed $700 million at the domestic box office on Wednesday in just 13 days, per Deadline, making it the fastest movie ever to hit the benchmark.
The previous record was a tie: Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Avengers: Endgame both needed 16 days.
Not beaten by a nose. Beaten by three full days, and both record holders at once.
The milestone puts Brand New Day in the most exclusive club in the business: only seven movies have ever crossed $700 million domestic.
The ladder now reads The Force Awakens ($936.6 million), Endgame ($858.3 million), Spider-Man: No Way Home ($814.8 million), Avatar ($785.2 million), Top Gun: Maverick ($722 million), and Black Panther ($700.4 million).
And here’s the thing: at $704.5 million, Brand New Day already passed Black Panther the moment it arrived. It’s the sixth highest-grossing movie in domestic history 13 days into its run, tracking 31 percent ahead of No Way Home at the same point, with Maverick‘s $722 million due to fall within days.
Sony’s International Crown Changes Hands
The overseas side delivered its own history: the international haul now stands at $1.108 billion, passing No Way Home‘s $1.106 billion to become the biggest foreign gross in Sony Pictures history.
That total ranks as the 10th highest international haul for any movie ever, and Brand New Day is now Sony’s biggest release of all time in 26 individual markets.
The territory leaderboard: China ($197.6 million), the UK ($95.4 million), Mexico ($70.8 million), France ($56 million), India ($55.7 million), Brazil ($52 million), South Korea ($46.7 million), Germany ($42.4 million), Australia ($42.1 million), and Italy ($34.1 million).
What Falls Next
Add it up and the worldwide total sits at roughly $1.81 billion, with the all-time top 10 already breached on the international side and No Way Home‘s $1.92 billion franchise crown now days away, not weeks.
The third weekend projects at $57 million to $72 million per Deadline, leading the box office again over dinosaur newcomer The End Of Oak Street.
