Spider-Man: Brand New Day Fastest Movie Ever To $500 Million Domestic: Endgame Falls Again

Spider-Man: Brand New Day Fastest Movie Ever To $500 Million Domestic: Endgame Falls Again

UPDATE 2: The streak never broke. Brand New Day went on to become the fastest movie ever to $800 million domestic, crossing in a record 19 days, after taking the $700 million record too, and it now sits fourth all-time domestically with No Way Home next.

UPDATE: The record watch has its answer. The second weekend landed at $143 million, the third-best ever, just shy of the crown, but the consolation prize is bigger: $653 million is the best 10-day start in box office history, beating Endgame yet again.

Another day, another Endgame record in the rearview.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is now the fastest movie in history to cross $500 million at the domestic box office, per Deadline, hitting the mark in just seven days and beating the eight it took Avengers: Endgame back in 2019.

That makes Brand New Day the 23rd member of the $500 million domestic club, a list still topped by Star Wars: The Force Awakens at $936.6 million.

For speed context, The Force Awakens needed 10 days to reach half a billion, and Spider-Man: No Way Home needed 12. Spidey did it in a week.

Thursday is tracking at $27 million or more, which puts the running domestic cume at an estimated $508.8 million by the end of the night, just six days after the $360 million opening that dethroned Endgame.

The Weekday Sweep Continues

The daily records keep stacking. Wednesday brought in $32.7 million, the second-best Wednesday ever for a movie past its opening day, behind only The Force Awakens‘ $38 million on December 23, 2015, when half the country was on Christmas break.

Add it to the pile: the biggest Monday ever, the biggest Tuesday in box office history, and now a Wednesday that only peak Star Wars on a holiday has ever topped.

And Now IMAX Joins The Party

Here’s the scary part for the record books: everything above happened before today, and today is the day IMAX screens finally open to Spidey in North America in the co-share with The Odyssey.

Christopher Nolan’s epic keeps its premium stronghold, with near-sellouts still reported in major IMAX markets into October, but Deadline notes Spidey holds every other premium large format through the weekend.

The fastest half-billion in history just added the biggest screens in the business.

The Second Weekend Record Watch Is On

This weekend, the target is the all-time sophomore frame record: The Force Awakens‘ $149.2 million.

Even a standard superhero second-weekend drop from $360 million lands in that neighborhood, and nothing on the release calendar is built to stop it.

The counterprogramming previews tonight: Universal’s romantic comedy One Night Only, Eli Roth’s Ice Cream Man from Horror Section, and Searchlight’s R-rated Super Troopers 3. All three are aiming for whoever can’t get a Spidey ticket.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is now playing everywhere, including IMAX, sitting past $1.155 billion worldwide. Follow the record chase at the Spider-Man: Brand New Day hub.
