Marvel’s official The Art of Spider-Man: Brand New Day book has leaked online more than three weeks ahead of the movie’s July 31 release.
The pages seemingly settle the Hulk question that Marvel Studios tested a Gray Hulk for the film, but he’s staying green.
Pages from the art book and video flooded social media on Wednesday revealing concept art for the Hulk, the Punisher, Boomerang, Ramrod, the Damage Control building, and more (see below), following the record presale numbers and the best tracking of the summer.
Green Hulk confirmed
The Hulk spread features at least six different looks for Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk, including shirtless versions, a torn jacket look, gray variations, and even a full suit of dark tactical armor.
According to details shared alongside the leaked pages, the Hulk will be green in the movie, with the Gray Hulk “just a test.”
The text in the book appears to back that up, referencing how Bruce Banner’s alter ego was originally gray in 1962’s Incredible Hulk #1 before the switch to green over the printing limitations of the era, with the artists exploring gray for the film — noting there are “some really great storylines with the gray Hulk” — before keeping him green so audiences recognize the character.
Worth pointing out is the gray version isn’t Joe Fixit, as it’s simply a gray version of the Ruffalo Hulk — no suit, no Vegas enforcer — so fans hoping for the comic book Gray Hulk seem to be out of luck.
Savage Hulk returns
The bigger takeaway from the art is that this is a savage Hulk.
The concept art features the Hulk snarling and raging with a design a lot closer to 2008’s The Incredible Hulk than anything from the Smart Hulk era, the first time the character has been depicted as a true monster since Marvel merged Banner and the Hulk into the smiling, selfie-taking version.
That fits the story details, as the leaks also state Peter Parker “thinks he’s turning into a monster,” positioning the Hulk as a dark mirror for Peter, in line with the plot leaks previously covered.
Another detail from the leaks reveals Peter builds a sewing machine with built-in AI to repair his suit, so Peter is still broke and DIY-ing it following the events of No Way Home.

Additional leaked pages reveal:
- Jon Bernthal’s Punisher gets his war van, complete with the skull on the hood, along with pages showing the evolution of the skull logo, with the artist noting he has designed dozens of different skulls for Frank Castle across Daredevil: Born Again and the upcoming Punisher special.
- Peter and MJ hide out with Frank Castle, as concept art shows the two sleeping in the Punisher’s basement safe house.
- Boomerang gets a full costume reveal: a white-and-black suit with a silver visor and a back harness stocked with boomerangs.
- Spider-Man scales the Damage Control building.
- Ryan Meinerding art pays homage to Todd McFarlane’s Spider-Man #1 cover, with Meinerding calling the huge McFarlane eyes an influence on the film’s suit.
- Battle art shows Spider-Man against an unidentified molten, golden figure.
Notably absent from everything leaked so far: any art of Sadie Sink’s still-unrevealed character. More concept art below.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day opens July 31, directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and starring Tom Holland, Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Jon Bernthal, and Mark Ruffalo, with the Hulk next appearing in Avengers: Doomsday on December 18.
