UPDATE: The chase is on schedule. Brand New Day is now 2026’s highest-grossing movie worldwide at $1.155 billion, adding the biggest Tuesday in box office history at $42 million and passing Toy Story 5‘s seven-week total in five days.
A billion dollars, in roughly a week.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day has officially crossed the $1 billion mark worldwide, per Box Office Mojo, sitting at $1.053 billion with $407.2 million domestic and $645.8 million international.
That makes it the second-fastest movie ever to reach a billion, behind only Avengers: Endgame, which pulled off its five-day sprint in 2019.
For franchise context, Spider-Man: No Way Home needed 12 days to get there in 2021, and that stood as the fastest billion of the entire pandemic era. Brand New Day nearly cut the franchise record in half.
Box Office Mojo also has the official opening weekend actuals on the books: $360,091,572, the number that dethroned Endgame as the biggest opening in box office history.
The split tells the rest: 61 percent of the money is coming from overseas, where the record-setting international launch keeps rolling, and the $2 billion club that only seven movies have ever joined is looking less like a projection and more like a schedule.

The Second Billion Has Fuel Lined Up
Here’s why the trajectory holds. IMAX screens arrive in North America this week, handing the record holder the one premium format it didn’t have, right as repeat viewing kicks in.
August offers no real competition, China is still in its first full week, and Japan’s legs traditionally build for Spider-Man over months, not weekends. The first billion took a week. The second one has a runway.

Marvel Is Enjoying This A Little Too Much
The victory lap is in full swing.
In a single weekend, Brand New Day out-grossed every DC movie James Gunn has ever made combined, and Kevin Feige couldn’t resist poking DC directly, declaring there are none better than Marvel’s characters.
Sony boss Tom Rothman took his own lap, dismissing superhero fatigue and declaring the audience is the boss. The boss just voted with a billion dollars.

What A Billion Dollars Buys
The money is already redrawing the map.
Spider-Man 5 talk is in motion at Sony with Tom Holland and Zendaya, and Feige has gone on record that Brand New Day leads directly into Marvel’s X-Men era, which anyone who stayed through the ending already understood.
Meanwhile, the other shoe dropped on Sony’s side: the Spider-Man spinoff universe is done, with nothing in development. After Madame Web and Kraven, the lesson landed. The billion dollars flows through Peter Parker and the MCU bridge, not around them.
One week, one billion, one crown, and now the biggest screens in the business join in. The only questions left are how fast the second billion comes, and what’s left of the record books when it does.
