Sony has another leak on its hands. Four minutes of footage from Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse hit social media Thursday, and unlike the usual shaky phone captures, this one is in HD.
The leak includes what appears to be an extended opening scene from the movie followed by a trailer-style montage, closing on the June 18, 2027 release date.
It’s the same presentation Sony showed behind closed doors at CinemaCon back in April, meaning someone sat on this for four months before dropping it.
Sony is now playing whack-a-mole with copyright strikes as the clip keeps getting reuploaded across X.
Christopher Miller Reacts To The Leak
Writer and producer Christopher Miller weighed in on X on Friday, and he kept it short.
“Not a fan of leaks of unfinished, not fully rendered footage,” Miller posted.
That tracks with what the footage actually is. The CinemaCon reel was a work-in-progress presentation, so plenty of shots aren’t final.
The fans don’t seem to care. Reaction online has been overwhelmingly positive, with replies summing up the general mood: if that’s the unfinished version, imagine what the final movie looks like.
What The Leaked Footage Shows

The footage picks up right where Across the Spider-Verse left off, with Miles Morales stranded on Earth-42 and face to face with his alternate self, the Prowler. The montage portion also features Spider-Gwen, Spider-Ham, and Spider-Punk.
Across the Spider-Verse infamously cut to black mid-story back in 2023, so this is the first real look at how things pick back up after what will be a four-year wait.
Sony’s Leak Problem (Or Is It?)
Here is where it gets interesting. This is far from Sony’s first rodeo this year.
Multiple Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailers leaked ahead of that movie’s release, and both Brand New Day and The Odyssey leaked in full onto X after hitting theaters.
Now the Beyond the Spider-Verse CinemaCon reel surfaces in pristine quality right as D23 Expo gets underway, alongside leaked Avengers: Doomsday footage.
Some of those Brand New Day leaks looked suspiciously well timed, and more than a few fans are wondering if Sony’s marketing department is all that upset about this one either.
Officially, the studio is scrubbing it from the internet. Unofficially, the buzz is free and the reaction is glowing.
To be clear, that’s fan speculation. But whatever the case, the smart move now would be to just release the footage officially. The cat is out of the bag.
Big Stakes For The Spider-Verse Finale
Beyond the Spider-Verse wraps up Miles’ animated trilogy after years of delays, as the movie was originally dated for 2024.
The first two films set a high bar. Into the Spider-Verse won the Best Animated Feature Oscar, and Across the Spider-Verse grossed over $690 million worldwide in 2023.
The timing couldn’t be better for Sony, with Spider-Man: Brand New Day still smashing records at $1.8 billion worldwide. And as Kevin Feige recently confirmed, Miles Morales goes live-action in the MCU once the animated trilogy concludes.
At CinemaCon, Miller promised this is “the most emotional Spider-Verse film we have ever made,” while Phil Lord called it the most spectacular. Based on the reaction to four minutes of unfinished footage, they might not be exaggerating.
