The Sparking Zero NEO DLC has been out for hours on the US West Coast, and Steam has already split down the middle.
Every number below is a snapshot from that window and will move.
Where The Sparking Zero NEO DLC Score Stands
At our latest check, the Sparking Zero NEO DLC’s overall Steam rating sits at Mostly Positive with exactly 70 percent favorable, 28 thumbs up against 12 down under Steam’s default filters.
Apply Steam’s language filter and it showed Mixed at our earlier check. Counts on the page have been swinging as Steam’s helpfulness system sorts reviews, so treat every figure as a moving target.
Not a contradiction. Mixed tops out at 69 percent and Mostly Positive starts at 70, so NEO is sitting directly on that line.
The base game holds Very Positive at 87 percent across more than 28,000 reviews, and 87 percent over the last 30 days. The biggest expansion in the game’s history is landing a full tier below the game it is attached to.

The Complaint We Did Not Expect
The most helpful review on the page at our check, with 372 helpful marks, is a thumbs down from The Yellow King.
It is barely about the content. He bought the $110 Ultimate Edition and admits the content itself is good. He drew the line at the ask: “now you’re making me pay another $35 for cut content”
He likes it. He rated it negative anyway.
Darthnader recommended the Sparking Zero NEO DLC and still wrote: “everything about this dlc is PERFECT, but it shouldve been included with the ultimate edition.”
A positive review and a negative review, landing on the same grievance.
We Checked What The Ultimate Edition Included
Since this is the argument driving the score, it is worth being precise.
The $109.99 Ultimate Edition covered the base game, the Season Pass and assorted bonus items. That pass was defined as three DLC packs of Super Hero and DAIMA content, later expanded to four when Shallot was added, and it never covered anything beyond that.
Ultimate Edition buyers got what they were promised, plus one pack more than originally listed. The Sparking Zero NEO DLC is also standalone rather than the start of a second season pass, so there is no cheaper bundle coming.
None of which makes the feeling unreasonable. Paying $110 for the biggest edition on the shelf, then being asked for $35 more nine months later, stings whether or not the fine print backs you up.
Pornelius Hubert, with 184 helpful marks, puts the other half of it plainly: he is not paying 37 dollars with tax “to do things that should’ve been base game.”
The Most Detailed Takedown
Zachary wrote the longest critique on the page, and it is specific rather than just angry. He calls the Sparking Zero NEO DLC lackluster and says it is not worth more than $15.
The customization was not what he expected, turning out to be outfits rather than the move customization he was hoping for. Limit Breaker Journey, he says, sounded fun on paper and got boring quickly.
Then the line that should worry Bandai Namco most: the most fun single-player mode in Sparking! ZERO is still Ultimate Battle, and that arrived as a free update.
He has a point worth sitting with. The free patch that landed alongside this DLC was itself substantial, nerfing all nineteen Vegetas and reworking the balance across dozens of fighters, and it cost nobody anything.
And Then There Is The Localization
Zachary says the Sparking Zero NEO DLC added dialogue reaching to make current meme references, embarrassing enough that he had to pause the game.
His verdict: Raging Blast’s Gotenks yelling “It’s peanut butter jelly time” has finally been dethroned as the most embarrassing line in a Dragon Ball game, after more than a decade holding the title.
He does concede the costumes look good.
The Positives Are Short And Happy
The other side is not writing essays.
The_Lord left four words: “so much worth it.”
Gauge19021 was funnier: “cheelai is worth the 35 bucks alone. everything else is a bonus.”
That is the split in miniature. The negatives are long, detailed and about money. The positives are short, enthusiastic and about characters.
One thing to ignore, before anyone raises it: most of these reviews show 0 hours on record because Steam tracks playtime on the base game, not the DLC entry. Every review at our check came from a verified purchaser.
Is The Sparking Zero NEO DLC Worth $34.99?
Three hours is not a verdict, and this moved from 40 reviews to over 90 while we were writing.
For $34.99 you are getting 33 fighters, four stages, four Episode Battles and Limit Breaker Journey. Everyone gets the free update regardless, including Sparking! Boost, the new tag-in Blast follow-up and three new stage variants. Wondering whether your PC clears the bar? For scale, Season Pass 1 also cost $34.99 and delivered 27 characters across three packs spread over roughly seven months. Mind you, this did not include any other content. Just characters.
Whether that clears the bar depends entirely on the mode. If Limit Breaker Journey holds up, this climbs out of Mixed territory for good. If Zachary is right that it wears thin, a standalone DLC sitting on top of a $109.99 Ultimate Edition keeps collecting reviews like The Yellow King’s.
