Marvel Studios has its White Queen, and its Cyclops.
Ready or Not star Samara Weaving has landed the role of Emma Frost in The X-Men, per Deadline, which broke the news Friday morning, with Variety confirming shortly after.
Marvel had no comment, so file this as trade reporting rather than an official studio announcement, but it comes from the top of the food chain.
Deadline reports director Jake Schreier and Kevin Feige met with a long list of candidates, with the final round of tests happening right after July 4th.
Weaving reportedly won the role earlier this week, with her audition described as “too hard to beat.”
She is the first actor cast in Marvel Studios’ mutant reboot. Nothing else is official.
The One Name Nobody Had
Here is what makes this one fun. Weaving appeared on none of the rumor lists.

For Emma Frost specifically, the loudest thread was Sydney Sweeney, which started with a MyTimeToShineHello post that cleared 2.2 million views before the same scooper quietly softened it to an unnamed X-Men role.
Fans also spent weeks pushing Sabrina Carpenter toward Frost or Dazzler.
Samara Weaving never came up.
Schreier pushed back on the online casting chatter months ago, and that pushback reads differently today. When Marvel actually made its first decision, the name came from completely outside the rumor economy.
No Hall H Mention Means D23 Watch Is On
The timing tells its own story.
Marvel just staged a packed Hall H panel at Comic-Con headlined by a new Avengers: Doomsday trailer, the Ryan Gosling Ghost Rider reveal, and David Jonsson taking the Black Panther mantle.
The X-Men got nothing. Not a logo, not a tease, not a single mutant mention on Marvel’s biggest stage of the year.
That silence now looks deliberate.
The thinking is that Marvel could make its X-Men cast official next month at D23, where the Disney Entertainment Showcase takes over the Honda Center on Friday, August 14.
To be clear, that is expectation and not anything Marvel has announced. But locking Frost days after Comic-Con wrapped lines up neatly with a studio saving the big reveal for its own stage.
Feige did confirm at Comic-Con that no MCU movies land between Doomsday and Secret Wars, which puts the new mutants on the far side of the Multiverse Saga.
Emma Frost Was Marvel’s Top Priority
Of every role Marvel is casting, Emma Frost came first. Deadline reports the studio conducted its most extensive search for the character, signaling just how important she is to the new X-Men.
That tells you how central the White Queen is to what Schreier and writers Lee Sung Jin and Joanna Calo are building.
Frost debuted in 1980’s Uncanny X-Men #129 from Chris Claremont and John Byrne as the White Queen of the Hellfire Club, introduced on the road to the Dark Phoenix Saga.
She spent the next four decades crossing over from villain to headmistress to X-Men leader, picking up her diamond form along the way in Grant Morrison’s New X-Men.
Line that up against the tracker and things get interesting.
A rumor already placed Wagner Moura as Hellfire Club leader Sebastian Shaw. Cast the White Queen first, and the Hellfire Club throughline we flagged back in June starts looking a lot less like noise. That part remains rumor, but the first official casting points straight at it.
On film, January Jones played Frost in X-Men: First Class, Tahyna Tozzi played a diamond-skinned Emma in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and Finola Hughes had the role all the way back in the 1996 Generation X TV movie.
Weaving arrives with a far bigger runway than any of them got.
She has earned it. Weaving is in the middle of one of the better 2026 runs in the business: Ready or Not 2: Here I Come hit No. 1 on Hulu in May, Over Your Dead Body took a SXSW Audience Award, and Carolina Caroline landed a NYT Critics’ Pick in June. Genre audiences know her from Scream VI, The Babysitter, and Bill & Ted Face the Music.
And there is a family footnote MCU fans will appreciate: her uncle is Hugo Weaving, the original Red Skull from Captain America: The First Avenger.
Playing Marvel heavies apparently runs in the family, though Emma Frost’s whole arc is about not staying one.
The Fox era mutants get their sendoff in Avengers: Doomsday on December 18, with Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart, and James Marsden among the returning names.
Weaving is the first move in what comes after. If D23 really is the plan, the rest of the roster lands in exactly two weeks.
