Samara Weaving hasn’t filmed a single frame as Emma Frost, and she already can’t stay off the trending page.
This time it’s Cara Delevingne’s doing.
The model-turned-singer dropped the music video for “Crazy, Baby” on Thursday and cast Weaving as her love interest, and the internet handled the rest: a single clip of the two kissing has blown past 3 million views on X.
Marvel’s White Queen Meets DC’s Enchantress
The timing is what sent this thing into orbit.
One week after Weaving took the D23 stage as the MCU’s Emma Frost, she’s making out with Cara Delevingne, who played Enchantress in DC’s 2016 Suicide Squad.
That makes “Crazy, Baby” the closest thing anyone is getting to a Marvel-DC crossover this year: the incoming White Queen and the former Enchantress, sharing a piano bench.
Marvel fans clocked it instantly. The comments under Delevingne’s post are full of X-Men jokes, from “Emma Frost this was not the plan” to “Emma Frost and Enchantress love affair?”
Weaving is the first Emma Frost cast as a true centerpiece, and moments like this are exactly why. Weaving is going viral before cameras even roll.
There is even recent talk of releasing the David Ayer Cut of Suicide Squad.
The ‘Crazy, Baby’ Twist
The video, directed by Bradley J. Calder, plays for most of its runtime like a straightforward romance.
Delevingne and Weaving dance through a house, trade looks over a piano, lose most of their clothes, and finally kiss, and there’s the slap.
Then the music cuts out.
The ending reveals none of it happened. Delevingne’s character has broken into Weaving’s house, and the entire romance was a fantasy playing out in her head, flipping a love song into a stalker story in about ten seconds.
Casting Weaving for that swerve is the smartest thing about the whole video. Her career, from Ready or Not to The Babysitter, is built on stories that snap into insanity without warning. She knows exactly how to play this.
‘Let’s Get CRAZAYYYY’
The two are friends in real life, which is how this happened at all.
Delevingne wrote on Instagram that having Weaving in the video was “a real pinch me moment,” saying she feels like the luckiest lady in the world getting to work with her friends.
Weaving’s reply in the comments: “Let’s get CRAZAYYYY.” It picked up more than 3,000 likes on its own.
Behind-the-scenes footage from the shoot is making the rounds through fan accounts, while the kiss clip keeps climbing past 3 million views and a post pulled nearly 200,000 more, with replies already cheering the incoming Emma Frost.
Emma Frost’s Viral Streak Continues
This is the third time in a week Weaving has taken over the timeline without Marvel lifting a finger.
First came the photo of her sunbathing with a stack of Emma Frost comics, captioned “Don’t read into it”.
Then fans catalogued every book in the stack down to the issue numbers.
Now she’s the star of a viral music video that has nothing to do with Marvel and still turned into an Emma Frost story in the comments.
Marvel could not buy this kind of run-up to the movie.
For Delevingne, “Crazy, Baby” is the fourth single from her debut album Not Normal, out September 25 via Warner Records, following “I Forgot,” “Out of My Head,” and “Need It.” She has said the song was written for her longtime partner, musician Minke.
