Ryan Reynolds has now said it on camera.
Two weeks after conceding the all-time R-rated record with a Honda Odyssey joke, Reynolds addressed The Odyssey passing Deadpool & Wolverine in person for the first time.
He spoke with Variety at Tuesday night’s Mayday world premiere in New York.
“I mean, obviously an incredible, incredible movie,” Reynolds said when asked about The Odyssey becoming the number one R-rated film.
“Christopher Nolan literally breathes the rarest air on Earth. He’s a singular filmmaker,” Reynolds continued. “I mean, Matt Damon, Tom Holland, who’s clearly batting a thousand, stars with Zendaya.”
“Just Go To The Movie Theaters”
Reynolds then turned it into a pitch for the big screen.
“I just love that people are going to the movie theaters,” he said. “I don’t even care why or for what reason. Just go to the movie theaters. There’s no better shared experience.”
“It’s that collective effervescence,” Reynolds continued. “We’re all experiencing the same thing at the same time, in the same way, and it bonds us together as a society. And I just think it’s the best. I love it.”
He made that pitch from the carpet of a movie skipping theaters entirely.
Mayday, the Cold War buddy action comedy pairing Reynolds with Kenneth Branagh from Game Night directors John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, streams worldwide on Apple TV this Friday, September 4.

Deadpool & Wolverine finished its 2024 run at $1.338 billion worldwide.
The Odyssey blew past that in mid-August and has kept climbing: Nolan’s epic now sits at roughly $1.55 billion worldwide, with about $564 million domestic and $989 million overseas, and Japan still to open September 11.
Reynolds does keep one crown.
Deadpool & Wolverine‘s $636.7 million remains the domestic R-rated record, with The Odyssey projected to finish around $575 million in North America.
The Odyssey is already Christopher Nolan’s highest-grossing movie ever.
Reynolds recently said the next Deadpool movie is going to be great, with Reynolds and Hugh Jackman both expected back in Avengers: Doomsday.
