Ryan Reynolds is volunteering.
Speaking with Entertainment Tonight at Tuesday night’s Mayday premiere in New York, Reynolds was asked about HBO Max’s new Green Lantern series and whether fans should expect a little cameo.
“I would totally do a cameo in that. I love it. I mean that,” Reynolds said.
“Learn What Not To Do? In Part, Yes”
Then he went further and defended the movie he’s spent a decade roasting.
“You know, I learned so much making that movie. And I know what you’re thinking. You’re thinking, oh, learn what not to do. In part, yes,” Reynolds said.
“But also, anytime you make something that large, there are core lessons that come of it,” Reynolds continued. “And I owe my entire career to that movie.”
“Everything about it was like a gift that keeps on giving,” he added. “And I really enjoyed the experience of making it.”
Green Lantern opened in June 2011 and finished with $219.9 million worldwide on a reported $200 million budget. Warner Bros. shelved the sequel.
Reynolds turned the movie into a running gag after that. Deadpool 2‘s post-credits scene has Deadpool shooting Reynolds before he can accept the Green Lantern script.
He also met wife Blake Lively making it.
The Timing Is Something
Lanterns is three episodes into its HBO Max run with Kyle Chandler’s Hal Jordan and Aaron Pierre’s John Stewart.
Episode 3 set off the worst backlash of the season. On Monday we said we owe Ryan Reynolds an apology for Green Lantern.
Two days later, the man is on a carpet defending the movie himself and asking in.
Any cameo would need a second season, and Season 2 is not greenlit.
Reynolds covered a lot of ground Tuesday night. He also reacted to The Odyssey taking Deadpool & Wolverine’s R-rated record.
