Disney has now made it official: Ryan Gosling’s Ghost Rider opens July 28, 2028.
Deadline reports the studio formally placed the Shawn Levy-directed Marvel movie on the date following D23. Disney had been holding the weekend for an untitled Marvel Studios release.
The confirmation comes one day after Deadline pointed to July 28 as the likely landing spot. Marvel only announced a general 2028 window when Gosling appeared at the Hall H panel at Comic-Con.
Ghost Rider Claims Marvel’s Late-July Slot
Marvel has turned the end of July into one of its biggest summer launch windows. Deadpool & Wolverine opened there in 2024, and Spider-Man: Brand New Day followed in the same part of the calendar.
The official date gives Marvel three theatrical movies in 2028:
- X-Men: May 5, 2028
- Ghost Rider: July 28, 2028
- Black Panther 3: December 15, 2028
Ghost Rider sits almost three months after X-Men and less than five months before Black Panther 3.
Gosling And Levy Move From Star Wars To Marvel
The schedule also locks in a quick turnaround for Gosling and Levy.
The pair first have Star Wars: Starfighter, which opens on Memorial Day weekend in 2027, followed by Ghost Rider fourteen months later.
Jonathan Tropper is writing both movies. Similar to what we have been told about Starfighter, Gosling is also heavily involved creatively in Ghost Rider, with Kevin Feige giving the actor room to shape the project and decide how much he wants to reveal.
Marvel still has not confirmed whether Gosling is playing Johnny Blaze, Danny Ketch, or another version of the character.
Feige has said Gosling approached Marvel with his own take based on specific comic book runs.
Disney Adds More 2028 And 2029 Dates
Deadline’s updated calendar also sets Pixar’s Ghost Market for March 10, 2028, Disney’s live-action Tangled for March 31, and Disney Animation’s Clay for November 22.
For 2029, Disney has an untitled movie set for November 9, followed by Coco 2 on November 21.
Ghost Rider opens July 28, 2028.
