Avengers: Doomsday is born in the new ending of Avengers: Endgame Encore, according to co-director Anthony Russo.
Russo broke down the scene at a Q&A following a New York screening of the re-release, via GamesRadar.
Spoilers for the new ending follow.
Details below.

One Beat Past Where Steve’s Story Ended
The re-release plays past Steve and Peggy’s dance, with Loki turning up at their front door in his TVA gear.
Peggy asks him, “Can I help you?” Loki answers, “No, but I can help you, both of you.”
The full rundown of the re-release’s additions is in our scene breakdown.
Asked at the Q&A whether working on Doomsday changed the meaning of any moment in Endgame, Russo pointed straight at it.
“Well, I mean, you all just saw Endgame Encore, and there’s certainly a pivotal moment in that film at the end, where the moment has a different meaning,” Russo said.
“You know, we sort of play one beat past where Steve Rogers’ story ended with Peggy Carter, and in that moment, that’s where Doomsday is born,” he continued.

Steve’s TVA Card In The Doomsday Trailer
The Doomsday trailer already showed Steve holding a TVA card.
GamesRadar points out the card carries the Yggdrasil tree, which places it after the Loki Season 2 finale, and the outlet figures Loki hands it over in this scene.
GamesRadar’s read is that Loki steps away from holding the multiverse together to reach Steve and Peggy before an incursion hits their world, which lines up with the new TVA scene showing worlds starting to collide.
Chris Evans and Hayley Atwell are both in the Doomsday cast, and Russo calling this the moment the movie is born points at Doomsday picking up right there, with Steve and Peggy pulled back into the fight.
Avengers: Doomsday lands December 18, with Avengers: Endgame Encore playing now.
