Three days ago saw word hit that Roberto Orci will not be directing Star Trek 3.

Now Orci comments on the departure at TrekMovie.com where it’s learned that Orci will still be involved with the movie, which makes sense seeing how Orci wrote the story.

I will be very involved:)

not at all. still excited to makeTrek 3! And on time. We’ll find the right director!

no time travel was ever considered, fyi

A Star Trek fan then mentions Kirk’s advice to Picard about not letting them do anything to take you out of the chair. Orci’s response is interesting because he states that was part of the reasoning for stepping down, which sounds like a hint a big name will be directing Star Trek 3.

Have not forgotten. On the contrary, factored into decision. Their are bigger chairs to consider

A fan then brings up mention of J.J. Abrams returning to direct Star Trek 3 (as Star Wars: The Force Awakens is now finished filming and Abrams is not doing the sequels); however, Orci seems to say that Abrams will be too busy with the post-production on Star Wars.

I am so excited to see what JJ does FOR THE NEXT YEAR with Star Wars in post production.

Orci also stated on his Twitter he will be a producer on Star Trek 3.

The original report that said Orci was out stated former Ant-Man movie director, Edgar Wright, was a contender to direct Star Trek 3.

It’s also been said Paramount wants Star Trek 3 to be released in 2016, which is the franchise’s 50th anniversary.
