Roberto Orci recently departed Star Trek 3 as a director, and now it’s learned Orci will also not be writing the third film in the new franchise.
Orci commented on an article at TrekMovie.com that he was producing “nothing more or less.”
Orci did respond to a fan’s question about being excited for he film and who will be writing with: “I won’t lie, I don’t know yet, but the story we are talking about would be awesome, hang in there!”
Orci then continues with a response about all the negative criticism the new Star Trek reboot has been getting: “Stop blaming [Bad Robot]. It was my idea so that you would not know what was gonna happen next. Nothing more or less. I stand behind it. And it, again, is the reason why I make movies and you don’t.”
While Orci does get a lot of heat for the reboot ideas, he did previously state his Star Trek 3 would be more resembling the original series as well as being set in space; however, now with Orci not writing the script, it will be Justin Lin’s decision to take the movie where – hopefully – no man has gone before.
Star Trek 3 has a July 8, 2016 release directed by Justin Lin.
